Anyone Get Haircut Shock?

I'm no stranger to changes in my haircut and color. Yesterday, I went from an all-one-length wavy blondie blonde lob to a layered shaggy wolf cut with more of a baylage look. Whenever I spot myself on a reflective surface, I have a quick "OMG! What happened???!!!" It usually takes a day or two for me to get over. Let me add that I like my new cut and color; it's just different. Also, for those who like to lecture, it's not that serious.

Does anyone else have a version of haircut shock?

I am bemused by my long hair. It's grey. It's long.

I have never not had bangs & now they are below my ears.

Figured I would try something different & my stylist is all in.

Hair shock is an everytime occurance for me after a cut---I have yet to, in probably 15 years, find that one fantastic stylist who does a great job with my hair---had one who had to retired due to carpal tunnel and surgery---my hair is awful and have often thought about just buzzing it off and wearing a wig! Had breast cancer and chemo 12 years ago and lost it all. It came back but is like a whole different animal---

Yes, I go to extremes with my hair styles. I have several times grew my hair to waist length, then cut it into a very short pixie style.

Right now it slightly below my waist and I am thinking about a haircut. Maybe a collar length bob?

My hair grows super fast, when my hair is short, I get a haircut every 4 weeks to maintain it.

I gave up on coloring...I need a touch up every two to three weeks and the roots are really noticeable by then.

I like the cut and the length in the pic you posted. I'll bet it looks great on you.

Change is awesome if you are up for it! I have a neighbor who wears her hair like you described. It's the most beautiful, shining fall of hair. So pretty in the sunlight.

First off, I am so glad you are far from your recovery and healthy! Friends have told me that the change in their hair after chemo borders on insulting.

Only when I get something drastic done. Like when I went from shoulder length blonde hair to an asymmetrical cut in red hair! Now that took a few days to recognize that it was me. I loved the look and kept it for several years. I don't find a bit of "shock" a problem, just something to get used to. Congrats on your new style @Squirrels Are Trash

When my DH and I began dating I was newly 17 and had always worn my hair short. He mentioned that he liked long hair. I grew it out and continued wearing it long, but in various lengths, layers, no layers, bangs, curtain bangs, no bangs, all of my adult life. My haircut shock happened the summer of 2022 when I decided to go short again - think Kris Jenner-ish. The cut itself was great, exactly what I wanted, and DD always does a great color blend, but it took some getting used to at first. I love my short hairstyle and color. It's super easy to maintain. And surprise, DH loves it too.

@Jk9 @Thank you! I like asymmetrical cuts. The problem arises with the grow out though. My niece has an undercut which I think is really cool. But I grew out one back in college and it took forever and two days to grow.

I was sick and tired of my phony blonde hair. I constantly had to do the roots and it was giving me split ends. Last year I decided to grow it all out and cut most if it off. I now am a brunette (two or three gray strands near temples)medium ash brown, but nothing surprises me more than how I never went grey. Very few women my age are my shade of natural brunette and I feel so much better about my appearance. I confess, though, that my friends were shocked that I did it. But the feedback has been positive.

For some reason, my hair goes into shock EVERY TIME I get a haircut, good or bad. It's the strangest thing. I have a pixie cut I never change much, long on top with long bangs, short on sides and back. For 3 or 4 days after a cut, my hair sticks out in clumps and cowlicks, won't lay properly, bends funny, and more. Then, after about 4 days, it calms down and automatically falls nicely into place like intended. I've lived with this for years.

I grew my hair long for my wedding so I could have a updo. While on my honeymoon in Bermuda I had it cut off to a chin length bob. I think my friends and family had haircut shock when I came home.

I just did, last week!

After a LONG time of just long hair....I added bangs, and layers!

I saw a pic of Jacyln Smith on HSN and copied it sort of.

No one really likes it! My husband said it looks like an 'old' style, my DD said now I look like Marie Osmand! What?? I still have a nose! ha hahah

Funny part is, I LIKE it ! I think I look younger!

Taking some getting used to, like you said ...a mirror glance and I wonder who the heck that is!

It's staying...for now....

@Squirrels Are Trash --had to chuckle about the insulting remark---such a good description---first off, thanks for your kind words--yes am doing well--except for the hair part---seems like I went thru all the wretched steps to rid myself of the cancer zombies only to get a smack down from my stupid hair!! Such a small thing in the grand scheme of things--but so annoying anyway!!!
