Altering your appearance

This is my list of the quickest and easiest ways to change your appearance without cosmetics:

* cutting your hair length

* styling your hair differently

* coloring your hair

* wearing eyeglasses or changing the color and/or style

* wearing contact lenses instead

* whitening your teeth

* tweezing or growing out your brows

Does annyone have any other ideas? If so, thanks in advance.

Hmmm...I think you nailed it! Those are all excellent suggestions!😊 A great facial and skin care and products.😊 And something as simple as a smile, nothing lights up a face better!👍

I think changing your hairstyle makes the biggest difference.

Makeup every day is best for me. Pinker blush and lipstick.

Wear brighter colors near your face.

Smile more!

@feline groovy Your post reminded me of an incident involving my father..........

The block I lived on when I was a teenager, there was this lady who was probably in her mid 40's to early 50's who always wore makeup no matter the time of day. This lady was very beautiful as the makeup was perfection as if a makeup artist made her up.

Her eyeshadows always matched the color(s) of her clothing. Us kid would look at her in amazment when she walked around or just sitting around in the front or back yards.

One morning, my father came in the house all ruffled up holloring for my mother. I overheard my him telling my mother that he went to xxxxxx house to return an item he had borrowed. This "old ugly" lady answered the door & he asked if xxxxxx was home as he wanted to return this item. xxxxxx told my father SHE WAS xxxxxx. My father quickly left.

My mother had to explain to him that women who wore makeup 24/7 look very different w/o it & not in a good way. You just happen to see xxxxxxx prior to her putting on her face.

My father never went to her house again "in the morning." My father was good friends w/her husband.

Extreme weight loss or weight gain. I saw someone I knew years ago when they very overweight and did not recognize them b/c they lost a lot of weight. Looked like a totally different person.

@feline groovy The only quick solution I can think of that hasn't been named is perhaps your clothing style. Try an outfit you'd normally never be drawn to wearing.

@Bookplate mentioned another good one, wigs. Years ago, I'd wear a wig from time to time whenever I didn't feel like styling my hair. Consequently, I was rarely recognized either lol.

Wear colors, shapes, textures, patterns, etc that match who you are naturally.

(google 'dressing your truth' by carol tuttle - lots of before and afters that show the difference it makes - this image is not me and I'm not a paid spokesperson but it's one of the best things I ever decided to do)

Adding to the list of quick & easy changes:

Change the texture of your hair (perm, keratin smoothing, etc)

Clean, well groomed hair

Hydrate- drink lots of water.

Wear colors that flatter. Pop a color with neutrals, especially as you get older and choose makeup colors carefully to flatter.

Wear good quality and good fitting undergarments. When was the last time you had a professional bra fitting?

I NEVER leave the house without makeup. I'm fair and blonde (naturally, but I help it along now) and look very tired and ill without makeup.

Or are you thinking in terms of just a 2024 updated look?

I used to work with a woman who wore makeup 24/7. I think she put it on the a trowel. It was so thick. Never saw her without makeup but someone said she looked like a man without all the glop on her face.

@ellaphant No. My father hollored (meaning calling for her in a loud voice) at my mother who was in another part of the house.

Some people are ugly w/o makeup. Just keeping it real, it's not unkind. If the truth hurts, so be it.

My mother never wore makeup 24/7. The little bit she wore-face powder & lipstick, she immediately took off after she came home from work.

I've received that reaction many times when bumping into people I haven't seen in awhile. I'll be the one to engage first and when I tell them who I am they're a little surprised at first because they've never seen me thin or with short hair, so it's kind of a double whammy.

@feline groovy I have to argue that even some minimal makeup makes a huge difference. I was trained to use a bit of brow pencil, blush and lipstick to completely change the way a woman can feel about herself.

Hair styles, glasses, etc. can be added to the face, but makeup is important

The most recent (and maybe best) thing I've done to alter my appearance was going from a smooth, layered, chin-length bob to a much shorter (but not pixie) more tousled-looking cut.

I'd worn different versions of the bob for the last 30 years, and always had to blow-dry and use a curling brush and/or a flat iron to get it to look the way I wanted...and a lot of hairspray to make it stay that way! My hair is naturally wavy, with a bit of curl here and there. If I didn't heat style it, it would be a mess.

Now, on the days I wash it all I have to do is put some gel in it, let it dry, and fluff with my fingers. I can blow-dry it a little if I want a bit more volume. Second-day hair looks great, too, for the first time ever!

I've gotten so many compliments!
