Skin Routine Question for SilleeMee

@SilleeMee , good morning! If you would be so kind, when you have time, will you tell me the exact products (and where you get them) that you use in your skin care routine? I know everyone's skin is different, and mine is likely not like yours, but I am curious if any of the products you use might be something I should consider.

I went down the rabbit hole of dermatology skin care videos on YouTube yesterday and learned a lot. I have several products in mind that I might try (but not all at once--I know about not throwing too much at my skin at one time). That being said, I am currently happy with my hydrating cleanser, my moisturizer, my sunscreen, I am using tretinoin (as you know--or at least trying to...lol) and ordered the Vitamin C serum you recommended. Yesterday, I also received the collagen powder you recommended and was pleasantly surprised to see that it did indeed dissolve in my coffee this morning and added no taste to my coffee.

Like I have mentioned, what started my plethora of questions for you, was that I had to use a public restroom a couple of weeks ago (yes, I know the lighting in those places is horrendous) but holy cow, the lines, texture, sun spots that mirror showed about made me pull a CVS sack over my head. I had no makeup on, as I had just gotten back from power walking and stopped into CVS to get a script. At 61, I realized that without makeup, I am very much looking my age because of years of sun worship and tanning beds and inconsistent skin care at times.

Also, any other supplements I should consider for my skin/joints? I take a multi-vitamin, calcium (citrate form), glucosamine/chondroitin (sulfate forms), CoQ-10, DHA fish oil (brain/eye health), and now the collagen powder. I used to belong to Consumer Lab and learned a lot there usually going by what brands they recommend, but I no longer have a subscription. I am not a name-brand snob, so any brands are okay with me as long as they have efficacy.

Thank you yet again for reading this long plea for advice and for all the help you give so many of us. Have a blessed day!

PS...I know you microneedle, and I have even read the book you have. I searched past threads and read about the stamp to use above my lip, so there is no need to explain how/when etc of how you microneedle. I have considered it but just can't pull the trigger on it. So I am only asking about skin care products and possibly supplements. I don't have hair concerns other than it becoming thin over the years, but I use a laser comb for that so am more or less happy with my hair.

The rabbit hole happens when women try to address all issues at once or not giving a product a good shot at working and quit after a few months.

I'll also add that what I've said many times, topical products cannot lift, add volume back, do anything about sagging skin or erase wrinkles... Retin A does a pretty good job, but takes a long while.

I hope @SilleeMee has good advice and recommendations for you.

I am not "into" skin care, but do use some of the basic products a lot of people here use. From my own experience over the last 7 or so years, and for me, what I eat has as great an effect as anything applied to my skin.

When I can't eat what my body needs, it shows in 2 days on my face. When I can't get adequate sleep it shows. When I am very stressed it shows. When I can't really wash my face morning and evening, it shows.

When these things happen, it shows on my face no matter what I use.

Just a point--I know it doesn't apply to all.

@Ainhisg Here's my two cents, I agree with another reviewer regarding getting enough good sleep, reduce stress, and for me, lay off the makeup. As someone who is in my mid 50's and always guessed at at age 35 (not bragging here) and I know genetics plays a role too, but I can also tell you a lot of these problems occur due to a lack of hormones as we age.

As I entered menopause besides the grueling hot flashes and anxiety, my skin was suffering too. No surprise. I went to a renowned Dr in NJ from aSuzanne Somemers book, that specializes in biodentical hormones and other treatments form vitamin c infusions and oxygen therapy for cancers. I have been on these for a couple of years now and have never felt better and my skin is plumper, clear, and I don't have any hyperpigmentation on my face or hands, no hot flashes and no more anxiety.

I do eat well and fast intermittently as well. I helped two of my girlfriends that both had partial hysterectomies with the same Doctor and they are better too. You would be amazed at how many not only skin problems, but health issues are linked to lack of our hormones. I was amazed. If you are interested read Suzanne Somers book "Breakthrough" I think every woman should read the book. It's life changing. She was a pioneer for women's health.

GA is a smaller molecule than is LA so it penetrates deeper into the skin and it's effects can last longer than LA. Glycolic can go deep enough to stimulate collagen in the dermal layer where LA can't reach. Sensitive skin types do better with LA.

About that vitamin C powder...

I take 500mg each day, divided into two doses. Each dose measures about a level 1/4-teaspoon. I put that into my twice-daily 'greens' drink. Be sure to rinse my mouth out to reduce the acidity from the VC. Not good for tooth enamel.

@SilleeMee that is exactly what I needed to know about the GA and LA. I'm going to go with LA just because of the tret issue, not being able to use chemical sunscreen, etc. I've never considered myself to have sensitive skin, but maybe I do just a little. Better safe than sorry.

I think you can read my mind. That's what I was wondering about the vitamin C powder--one dosage, two? And also about the rinsing of the mouth. I have weak enamel because of my age but mostly because of wearing braces as an adult, so that had been in the back of my mind concerning rinsing after use.

Is there any charge for all of your advice? lol Thank you so much again!
