I could never get past the price of Tatcha products. Ten, or so, years ago, when Tatcha launched on QVC, I was intrigued and more into K-Beauty. I did some shopping and found more reasonably priced alternatives on Amazon. The cleansing oil was terrific but left Amazon after awhile. It became too much of a hassle, to order from overseas. The Palmer's Cleansing Oil has been a wonderful and affordable alternative. The enzymatic cleansing polish alternative I found (Fleur de Lis Rice & Papaya Enzyme Powder) was also quite good. It went away too, and that's when I discovered Vasanti Brighten Up, although there are many cleansing powders out there. It's not an exact replacement but it's a nice, gentle, creamy, enzymatic polish. I'm still quite happy with the Vasanti but recently found the Fleur de Lis cleansing powder again and ordered it for DD and myself. She loves it. I haven't opened mine yet. I've also found all kinds of affordable essences out there too. All of the alternatives perform quite well. The only thing I've bought from the Tatcha brand was a lip treatment that happened to be a deal at the time. I wasn't overly impressed, it was thick and sticky. In general, Tatcha product, IMO, are way overpriced.

Watched TATCHA last nite for a bit. Ok, sounded good, price expensive. I did some research and found out they were sold to Unilever.

Now, to me, it's no longer exclusive and a wow product but rather another beauty product owner by a super power. Lost its interest for me. Unilever getting richer on over priced products

I wrote a paper on Geisha and it was quite extensive and interesting. Lots of info but never once did I come across any skin care or secret books with skin care concoctions. They used white paste. Google it.

I'm pretty sure that 'geisha book' is just one journal written by one geisha about how she did her personal skin care routine. It was not a handbook for all the geishas who ever lived.

I have been using Tatcha for years. It is the longest time I have ever stayed with a product line. Tatcha has been the best for my skin, ever! Since I have been using Tatcha, I have not had any breakouts. My skin is hydrated and smoother with less fine lines. I love every product that I have used. Now that I am retired, my budget doesn't fit the Tatcha price, but it still is worth it to me. QVC does have the best pricing when there are 2 for the price of one.

One of my friends recommended it, I don't remember the name, but it wasn't one of the big ones. When I returned home I thought for sure someone would have it. Of course I checked with Shiseido, and they didn't. But Fresh did. I used it for years until they discontinued it. I was so upset! At the time Bobbi Brown made something "like" a rice polish, but it just wasn't the same. So, even though I wasn't thrilled with the way they marketed, I tried Tatcha. Her family has a family crest, 'kamon'. I was born in a small city just north of Nagasaki. I have a dual citizenship. I wasn't there long enough to remember anything but my mom had a lot of pictures of where she grew up. Maybe one day I will return.

Oh @SilleeMee ! I wish we could sit and talk for hours! I loved Japan, and I visited Kyoto and Nara 3 or 4 times.

The first time I was in Kyoto was late afternoon. I still remember turning down the path and seeing Kinkakuji for the first time. The sun was shining on it. I felt like I had gone back in time about 300 years! It was so beautiful! I attended an authentic tea ceremony once. The gardens were spectacular, and I felt such a feeling of peace.

You must have relatives in Japan. I hope you do get to go back someday! I hope I get to go back someday too! My children grew up eating Japanese food, and they still love it. We are lucky enough to have a great Japanese restaurant near us, but I used to make it a lot too when they were home.

I still use my original rice cooker. I had the plug changed so I could use it here. We used to have rice at least once a week.

I have had fun though the years teaching a few words of basic conversational Japanese to my children's classes and to some Girl Scout troops. My own children would use a few phrases at home, like etadakimasu (let's eat), gochichosamade******a (it was delicious) - I know I did a terrible job spelling these out! We would say please and thank you and discuss the weather.

I felt so safe there. One time I left my books and papers on the train at the end of the day. I was frantic. I called my friend Kumiko, who told me to relax because they would be there the next day. When I got on the train and sat down a conductor brought them to me! I was one of the few gaijins on the train, so I guess he recognized me!

I'd better stop talking now! I am so passionate about your birth country!

Our parents said that was way too expensive of a choice. 🤨

@monicakm - It's never too late! It really is a beautiful place. I think you would really like it! You would love the shopping district of Tokyo. I think I only went to that area once or twice, and I was way too young and not financially able to buy anything from those stores!
