Sustainable/Refillable make-up compacts

Hi there,

Thought I'd submit an idea/request for a refillable cosmetic compact.

Several years ago Aveda made an rectangular and larger square metal (alumium?) compact with magnetic 'pads. they were slim and sleek and the various sizes were great fo rpurse or travel.

You could choose face pwder, concealer blush, eyeshadow 'refills' could easily be replaced/swapped out depending on needs.

No more plactic compacts in the landfill; perhaps something a 'clean/sustainable' cosmetic company would be interested in?

I travel frequently and taking a single go-to palette would be ideal. This would also allow you to replace the refills as you need them.

Just and idea?

Sounds good, but how about people go back to bar soap and stop buying tons of body wash in plastic containers? Nobody mentions that.

They still were plastic but Mary Kay sold refillable blush compacts for years. The compact really held up. I am on my last refill. That was years ago. Kept it as a spare in my travel bag. I no longer buy MK, but they were nice.

Not happening here. I despise bar soap. Why does it always have to be about giving something up? Hows about they make more sustainable packaging for the body wash?

@Jhana Wow, that brings back memories! I used to have that Aveda palette and loved it.

There are magnetic palettes available called "Z Palettes"...you can Google where to purchase or Sephora used to have them. Keep in mind you'll have to depot all your compacts to put products in them.

I now use the Trish McEvoy system when I travel...expensive, but so convenient. She has magnetic palettes and individual shadows, powder, blush and bronzers that fit inside w/ a mirror. there are one tier palettes and double palettes if you have more products.

@Sooner I do use Beekman bar soap and agree about the waste of packaging. Some cosmetic companies are also now using packaging that's more eco-friendly.

@Icegoddess I've used that yellow, huge pumper Kiehl's body lotion for many years. They now have a pouch to refill it. The same with many L'Occitaine products.

I don't think we'll see this conversion by most companies in our lifetime.

Seint foundation comes in a refillable compact that sounds like what you're thinking about. It's an MLM company.

That's the problem. I've tried heating them with no luck. You end up mangling the eye shadow trying to get them out. I really don't want to be imited to ony brands that have magnetic shadows unless it becomes mainstream.

I use Seint and that is exactly what it is. I know it isn't for everyone and some don't like the mlm aspect of it. But I love I just replace one tin when it's gone. I buy just the eyeshadows I want because you buy them individual. Each eyeshadow is about twice the amount you get in a normal eyeshadow pallet. Then I just replace the one eyeshadow color when I run out.

@Shanus The L'Occitane Volumizing shampoo is the best I've ever used! I have the pump bottle in the shower and do the refills.

Honeybee Gardens Cosmetics does refillable palettes with shadows. Their foundations and blushes also have refillable compacts.

MOB Beauty is great brand . I think they have exactly what you are looking for. One of the founders was actually a chief chemist at MAC . I used MAC exclusively in the 80s and 90s and these shades are really close and great quality
