Cleaning and drying makeup brushes

I wonder if some of you have this problem. I have a very small bathroom and have like no counter space and no place to leave things out on the sink, etc.

My question is - after you have cleaned your makeup brush or brushes, where do you place them, or how do you get them to dry if your situation is like mine?

I read that you can lay them on a towel, with the bristles hanging over the sink bowl to dry. But I have a shared bathroom, so this wouldn't work!

I know that you are not supposed to stand them up in a container because the water will cause the glue to release the fibers of the brush and also you want to make sure the brush or brushes dry totally (no mold spores, etc).

I have a nice container to hold my brushes after they are totally dry but that doesn't help in the drying process.

I think it was @SilleeMee who posted a type of hanging rack to dry brushes. She may post the product again. It looked perfect for what you need. 🙂

@AngelPuppy1 I always wash my brushes with Purity... As for drying... (this may seem unusual but it works for me ) I lay them across my floor registers. Now that the heat is on...they dry quickly. Works just as well when the AC. is on in the summer.

I hang mine on a clothes drying rack using bag clips. The can also be clipped onto a clothes hanger, and hung somewhere out of the way.

I lay my brushes across the top of a paper cup....could be on the kitchen window sill out of harm's way.

You could use that dry brush holder you described in place of a paper cup.

I also have a plastic rack with holes for the brushes to hang upside down to dry, that's the best way to dry them.

I'm pretty sure I got it at Amazon and it wasn't expensive.

I'll look for the info.

I can't post a link to an outside retailer, but it was at Amazon.

Go there, type in 'makeup brush drying rack', the one I have (and works great), is the first one that comes up, but there are many choices!

I create a hanging rack using a hanger and rubber bands to secure the brushes to the hanger. I hang over the window in my bathroom.

I purchased one on Amazon, as I was tired of having them across my bathroom vanity. Now they hang in the shower. So convenient and inexpensive. Does the trick!

A while back I bought an expensive set of brushes at a local hair salon. It came with a leather travel case and a lucite brush holder for when you clean them. Unfortunately, after one cleaning with a mild soap (Purity made Simple) the brush heads "fuzzed" out to over double in size, completely mis-shapen. Has anyone tried the IT cosmetic brush spray cleaner? This was a very expensive lesson I don't want to repeat.

This is how I dry my brushes using hair ties (rubber bands work too). Hang them on a towel rod.

@SilleeMee this is how I hang mine also. I use rubber bands on the bottom part of a pants hanger.

Lots of good answers here. I put mine sideways across a glass and in my bathroom windowsill. I keep the bottom half of the window covered all the time so they're out of sight there. The afternoon sun comes in through this window so they dry nicely.

On the rare occasions that I wash mine, I fold a towel a couple of times, and lay it on top of the chest of drawers in my bedroom. Then I lay the brushes on it with the heads hanging over the edge.

I do the same, put a hand towel on my dresser and have the brush head hang over the edge.
