The recent thread about looking for a makeup mirror along with many others about makeup organizers always remind me how little space I have for such things. I have a small vanity. My husband has the larger one, but he also has the smaller closet. Just thought I'd show you what I'm working with. I have a stand makeup mirror underneath, but nowhere to sit, so Ihave to put it on a big fat book and squat to use it. Or, I can use that little one you can see stuck to the mirrored door panel to my closet, which is somewhat larger than DH's. I don't dare put anything in that empty space on my vanity. That's where the mirror goes when I pull it out, plus I'm sure I'd be knocking anything sitting there onto the tile floor breaking it.

@tansy no, there's a small wastebaskt and a bag with some hair products and body lotion there. Just to the right of the light switch is the door opening. There's not even enough room for a door, just the opening.

@JudyL Thanks, I did just clean the vanity itself, LOL. I still need to clean those glass shelves. Several of my eyeshadow palettes are underneath.

Got to hand it to you, @Icegoddess ! I know you know where each and every item is! Actually, your shelves are neat and very useful.

(I was thinking on the order of a rolling cart. Would that help at all?)

I've got the space alright, just some countertop clutter nonetheless w/ a 3-drawer organizer with my 10x mirror on top, resting on a book for the proper height w/ lipsticks on the book.

Do they design bathroom spaces for women, or no?

@Harpa I don't know where a rolling cart would go. My closet is very narrow and I have a hard enough time getting to my shoes on one end. I do have a rolling cart on the other end of the closet, but it's mostly got sweaters in it. The top drawer has some of my stash as well as on top of it. I never roll it out though, too much stuff on the floor in the way.

As far as designing for women, I don't know. I just know I'm happy for the cabinet underneath. I know it became popular on the home remodeling shows that those pedestal sinks became popular, but all I could think was what at waste of possible storage space. DH does have some nice slide-out shelving he's added to his cabinets. Mine is just plastic baskets.

I have a little fold-up stool that I use to sit on. It brings me to just the right height to put my stand-up (fold-down) magnified ( 12") makeup mirror on the vanity. (When I'm done with makeup, I fold down the mirror and store it in one of the vanity drawers.) But it doesn't look like you have enough room to store a fold-up stool in your bathroom. Maybe you could fold down the stool and store it just around the corner in your bedroom?

Wow! What a cache! I have just one of everything opened. One (sunscreen) foundation, one mascara, blush, brow shadow, but two shadow pallettes. I use an eye cream for my morning and night face moisturizer (and it's a tiny pot!). My husband hung a swinging lighted mirror right over my sink. That way any fallout (powder) goes right in and rinsed down the drain.

We don't have a sink or mirror in our bathroom, sometimes you just have to work with what you have.

@Icegoddess you might benefit from what i got after using one in a hotel. Its a lighted magnifying mirror that is wall mounted and extends out and folds back in. (Sorry ive tried posting a photo and cant). Many, many online. I paid about $24 for mine.

@Icegoddess pardon my butting in, just a suggestion. I'm sure all these lotions, potions and makeup are not in every day use. Can you weed out what you mostly use on a daily basis and store the rest under the sink or in a tray separated by skincare and makeup.

What you have looks neat and organized, but I'd never find anything and I'd risk jars/bottles falling as I reached for things.

BTW, thanks for posting the photo. Love looking how people keep their makeup.

Sometimes I made "house calls" when the issue of makeup/skincare storage was minimal. In several cases, We added a wall cabinet w/ doors (Lowe's, Depot) over the toilet...

@LizzieInSRQ Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked at those, but really don't think there's room at eye level to install one due to the glass shelving. I used to have a larger suction cup one on the closet door mirror panel, but it kept falling off.

@Shanus The area underneath the sink is pretty full of stuff too. Most of my haircare is under there as well as the pedestal makeup mirror, my hairdryer with diffuser attached (takes up a lot of space), and my water flosser. Most of my eyesahadow palettes are under there too. I know where everything is which makes it quick to grab when I need it. That would not be the case if it was under the sink and I would also have to move stuff around to get to it. I do cover the organizer to the left of the sink with a towel, mostly to keep the dust off it, most of the time.

Most of the skincare I use on a daily basis is on the glass shelf, except for my cleanser.

The toilet is in a separate little room. The only place a cabinet could go in there would be behind the door when it is open. While it might be a handy place to store some stuff, I don't think I would want my makeup in there.

However, regardless of where I store my makeup, the reason for my post was to show how I really had nowhere to keep a nice lighted makeup mirror on my vanity, much less be able to sit to put my makeup on. Even if I had something to sit on, there's nowhere or my legs to go, so I'd be sitting at an awkward angle.

@monicakm We don't have separate bathrooms, just vanities. The larger vanity is next to a small closet, and I couldn't reach to get stuff hung on the upper rack anyways. It would seem odd to not have my closet and vanity together. It's probably just what was left when they designed the house. We have a huge jacuzzi-type tub and a tiny shower. I never use the tub, but DH does or else I might suggest a remodel and then we might both get larger closets. However, I still don't see any changes for the vanity, but I'm not very creative that way.

I always wanted one of the swing out makeup mirrors but I have a small cabinet beside the big mirror so no place to mount it. I did get a lighted mirror that suction cups to the vanity mirror and have liked it. The suction cup is great, has never fallen off. And I can articulate the mirror to the angle I want. It wasn't expensive on Amazon and worth a try.

As far as things on the counter, I have most of my daily stuff out too. No one goes in my bathroom so it doesn't have to be a showpiece. I just want things where I need them. I store backups in bins in my closet. Yours looks organized for your needs and that is all that counts!

@ByrdieK Thanks, the suction cup mirror I had also articulated. You had to twist the base to get the suction cup to stick and then twist it couterclockwise to remove it. Theoretically, it should've worked since I was sticking it to a mirror which is a totally flat, non-porous surface. Oh well. Even the little one you can see in the picture falls off about once a month or two. I wet the suction cup to make it stick better too. Luckily, there's a rug there so it doesn't break.

I currently have a larger lighted mirror that is flat with suction cups in my Amazon wish list I'm thinkng of trying. But, I also don't want to hurt my husband's feelings since I asked for the pedestal one. I wonder if there's such a thing as a fold-up stool. That might work. Maybe I could find somewhere to store it out of the way.

I'm like you, nobody but me and DH see our bathroom.
