Hi @ persiflage and monicakm
I also like a moist undereye. Wouldn't all that powder need to be avoided if you have a dry complexion?
I have had an issue this week with my tarte mascara transferring to below my bottom lash line even though I wear NO mascara and liner on my bottom lash line. Would baking stop this from happening? It sounds like something that takes a lot of practice and time to perfect.

I'm seeing YT videos about baking eyeshadow and concealer. I even see baking brushes. Why is using powder called baking? Why use so much? Is it a good technique ? A technique only young-uns can use? What's the point? It's a real head scratcher for me. I thought less was more!

@Midmod As I understand it baking makes your makeup last a really long time. It looks best from far away as you can see a layer of powder on your face. I do not like the look of a powered face (especially on mature skin) so I would rather try a setting spray.

I do use powder under my eyes, tapping in with a flat brush. Same thing along my nose where the pores are most noticeable and on the T of my forehead. I don't use a lot of powder and use the IT No More Pores. I don't know if that would be considered Baking or not.

The only reason for under the eyes, and I don't use concealer, is because I feel like any eyeshadow or mascra fallout that might happen during appication would be more difficult to sweep away if it fell directly onto my foundation. I don't think it makes me look powdery, but I guess someone else would have to tell me if it did.

They make eye shadows available without this ingredient in "baked" formulas.

Baking has been around a long time. With this technique you are using the powder along with your body heat to bake your foundation or concealer to a transfer proof, filtered looking seamless finish. After application and waiting 5 plus minutes you brush away the powder, you should not be able to see any powder. The powder should be finely milled and translucent.

When doing it for the under eye I use an emollient moisturizer and creamy concealer first with a light brush of powder to set. Using a damp sponge (you can dampen the sponge with setting spray or water) apply the powder, the moist products and powder will come together over several minutes. Let it bake and then brush the powder away. Perfection, liner or mascara won't break down throughout the day and no creasing.

There are so many transfer proof foundations with a nice finish today that it isn't something needed for the look I want but would work to create the same look if you had a different type of foundation. Just the other day I tried a new sunscreen that resulted in a shiny, moist and dewy look after I put on foundation so I used this technique to get rid of that look, everything melded together for a flawless finish.

'Baking' is applying a thin film of 'setting powder' with a damp sponge, especially under the eyes -

Then leaving it on for 10 minutes, to 'bake'.

Once done, brush off excess with a dry soft brush.

Supposed to 'blur' our skin of any imperfections, lines, etc.

Works quite well, if it's done thinly and correctly.

Technique has been around for years.
