Nail Services Question Please

When I taught, I always had gel nails done and polish.

The owner told me that tools should always be sprayed with an anti-bacterial to prevent TB and other issues.

That salon is 30 minutes away.

Last week I went to a very nice nail salon for just cut, file, and polish. Tools were not sprayed but put in a big cup with other tools to be used again.

Have they quit spraying now? Does your salon spray?

If the jar contains barbicide it’s fine.

At my nail salon, the tech has a kit with the tools for each client sealed in plastic. After the service, the one time use implements are discarded and the reusable ones are cleaned and autoclaved before being kitted together again.

Are you sure that the nail tech uses them again? Maybe she/he collects several sets before sterilizing.

My nail tech uses a packaged sterilized set per person.

The shop I go to uses an autoclave but the shops I previously went to used Barbicide or another solution. The name escapes me. Then they seal, bag and label the instruments. I never heard of a disinfectant spray.

You are not offending me at all; much appreciate your guidance.

I went to a very pretty salon. He put the clippers in a full standing cup of lose brushes and tools.

When I got gel nails as a teacher, she sprayed each tool as she went. I didn't see him clean anything.

FYI........................TB Live on Surfaces? TB cannot live on surfaces and therefore cannot be spread by touching, eating or drinking from objects or surfaces coming in contact with someone who is infected.

My salon opens a sterilized envelope of implements for each customer. When done they put the implements into a new envelope & then seal it. They then put the envelopes into a hospital grade sterilization machine.

Hair and nail tools should be soaked in Barbicide, not sprayed. That is a state law in PA.

Nail files should not be used on more than one patron. You can't really clean them well.

Many salons will spray files and store them in a bag with the patrons name in it for next time or use one time disposable files.

Tools can also be washed and stored in a closed cabinet with formaldehydehyde tablets, but that practice is not used much anymore.

@ECBG ..............I have never been to a salon where they sprayed their equipment. Its always been in a package. Thats really odd. I think you might want to chose another nail salon.

At my place they are packaged like many others here.

The pedicure chairs are covered with a large plastic elastic band around the area and discarded after use.

I like this place. Very sanitary.

Since I had sepsis I am very careful about a salon's procedures.

@ECBG. My nail salon is chain, Anthony Vince. But every nail salon I’ve ever been to does it like this. I wouldn’t put my fat behind into the chair if I didn’t feel like the place was clean.
