Anyone Here Get The Butterfly haircut?

I see so many gals on youtube giving themselves the Butterfly hair cut that Brad Mondo showed on his channel on how cut it using 2 poneytails. Just wondering if anyone here were brave enough to cut there hair like that, I like the results but am to chicken to do it.

i cut my hair during cv when I didn't go to the salon

Back in the early 70s, the long shag was often cut in a similar way - just one ponytail on top of the head.

You need to have some volume of hair on your head for that cut to look right. Thin hair won't look the same.

Great post! I've been a long-time home haircutter ( years before the pandemic)- I do it myself because I have never like d haircuts I got, and if I did, they could never replicate it!
It's because ihave difficult hair, coarse, wiry, super porous, with several cowlicks (mainly at the crown that pushes it all forward) and oddball, stubborn waves.

Anyway, I follow Brad Mondo on FB, he is hilarious and he approves when people do a good job themselves. Most pros frown on all home-cutting. That said, the butterfly cut wouldn't work on myhair. I do more of a Wolf cut, but modified. You gotta try different techniques, and it's so fun! Watch YouTube! Go, try!! Only cut a little at a time at the start! Save oodles of dough! 💝😎

@cuddlesmama Yes, I cut my own hair now doing that method. First time I ended up cutting off about 6', but it turned out great, so that's what I'm going to do going forward.

My haircut is simple, long in back and wispy bangs in front, and my hair was long enough, so I figured if I messed it up, I would just go to the hairdresser and have them shorten the length and fix it, but it worked out great. Just make sure you have super sharp scissors so you don't damage the ends.

Nope. My hair is short. I have trimmed my bangs before but that's all. I leave the real cutting and coloring to my stylist.

When I went to cosmotology school back in the 70's this type of haircut was popular. It wasn't called the butterfly back then.

I have cut a few of these styles this way because the patron asked me to. The hair should be thick or the results will be stringy thin hair.

I would never cut my own hair this way or allow anyone else to do it for me. It is not a precision cut.

When I cut this style this way, I went back over it to assure the cut was perfect. Trust me, it never was, and always needed needed recut.

I prefer to cut hair the professional way with no rubber bands.

I LOVE the Butterfly cut ,way to chicken to do it myself! Lol ...I also like the wolf cut and the waterfall cut looks so beautiful ! I was thinking about asking my hair stylist if my face shape and texture of my hair....which is wavy...if it would be an option for me! 🤔

@CalminHeart I did that! I was a teenager. Ponytail in the front of my face, and one cut. Did not try more than once though.

I have seen no pictures of a similar simple butterfly cut. I think a hairstylist is required.

Haven't been to a salon since Fall 2019 and my hair never looked better. I bought cutting shears, thinning shears and a cutting template from Amazon. Then I instructed DH to never cut more than 1". My hair is thick, A slight curl and silver grey. It takes 10 mins to cut and so far have saved several thousand dollars. Btw I usually cut DH's hair; we' ll never go back to salons.

Thanks @CatsyCline!. Any after picture for this? I saw some after pictures with buttterfly haircuts, but the hair was clearly salon styled. I liked the cute short one below. I don't think I have enough hair to make layers look good, though my stylist has tried to show me otherwise.

on me i would have some poufiness.

@NYCLatinaMe if i could guarentee i would get this result, i wouldgo for it. my hair has body but also can frizz.

Oh I love that look! I got enough hair and it's wavy and maybe 2 inches longer but I wore my hair exactly like that in the 90's and it was a lot to take care of. And wearing a ponytail was impossible. But if I decided to have a new style like that I would go to a salon.

@bmorechick That is one of the reasons I don't cut my hair short. I wear ponytails most of the time. I just won't take the time to style. Too much work. I got a mermaid curling iron, thinking it would be easy, it could be messy or lacquered so to speak, but haven't used it yet.

Hi @CatsyCline Just watched the video, I don't know who brad mondo or this girl is, but I thought her hair looked pretty good! She styled it very nicely.

I think if you did it, a little poofiness would be good. I wouldnt let that drive me away from the cut. If you like it, go for it.

She also made me feel good because I think I have may have more hair than her! More poof, like you... But I think my hair is shorter. My ponytail not that long.
