Hands / Dark Spots?

I have some dark spots on my hands - and everything I tried either "burned" my skin or did absolutely nothing.

I saw something online about using Vicks ... well ... it works ... slowly, but it works.

It's been about a week. Just a dab before bed. The lighter spots almost disappear ... the darker ones are getting lighter.

Are you referring to the product, Vick's VapoRub that worked on the Spots on the Hand?

Heard of Vicks Vapo Rub for foot fungus, but not for dark spots, of which I have a ton on arms and legs. Old time sun worshipper.

Keep your hands out of the sun. Use sunscreen.

Prevent them from happening.

Vicks contains turpentine oil which has been associated with lightening age spots amongst other things. The oil penetrates the skin by disrupting the lipid barrier and when it does that the skin cells shed more rapidly. That will speed up the shedding of dark spots only on the surface and not completely remove the dark spots.

@SilleeMee Do you think it might work on a dark spot on the face? I have one that drives me crazy, and when I use a "dark spot remover" it only makes the skin around the dark spot lighter.

Darn!!

As a former teen Sun Worshipper, I have a HUGE sun spot on my face, high on upper cheek bone, approaching the back, one side of the face! I usually covef it up with concealer, foundation and/or powder.

Drives me crazy too! and I think it looks ugly!

Using a sterile Q-Tip, I put some kind of carefully researched High % hydroquinone solution on this sun spot yrs ago, but I wasnt careful enough at the lines with a fat sterile Q-tip Sure it was working on the Sun Spot, slowly, but the area outside the sun spot lines were raw.

Ppl close to my face noticed outside the lines were raw, & mentioned it.

Next time, NO sterile Q-tip!! Ii'll use the side of a sterile, pointed item, to apply much more precisely.

Accidently, outside the Sun Spot lines was a definite NO-NO.

No, I don't recommend applying Vicks on your face.

I don't see any problem with putting a little Vicks on the face. My mom always rubbed Vicks under our noses when we had a cold and I did it with my kids. Nothing bad ever happened.

I had used Ethocyn by ChanTal for many years.

I used my index finger on my right hand to apply it on my face. I would have some the product on my finger so I would rub the remainder on the top of my left hand.

After months I noticed I had no dark spots on my left hand. So after noticing that, I would rub the Ethocyn on both hands. It almost removed all the dark spots on my right hand. There is just a few faint spots left.

Ethocyn is no longer made. So I have one vial left. Now I wonder if the spots will eventually reappear. If they do I will try Vicks. Thanks for the tip, @ALRATIBA

@snipsnapsnur - I also remember my parents rubbing a little Vicks under my nose as a child. I don't see how putting a small amount on a brown spot would hurt.

I say I wouldn't recommend Vicks on the face but not that there anything wrong with that. Instead I would recommend using a product which is made specifically for the purpose of treating dark spots.

Every time I think of Vicks, I think of dectives from books and TV shows who rubbed it under their noses when they found dead bodies.

Well, I'll be darned! heh

I dont rule out anything anymore from consideration, esp since, as far back as using that OTC "Anti-Chafing Thigh Cream" to be used as a Face Primer, (if memory serves me). And it worked.

I'm considering playing with this, first on my thigh sun spots, (of which I have many). Then based on outcome, consider elsewhere.

Like I said, former Sun Worshiper, (in those days)! so I have a plethora of test sun spots.

Fortunately, not a one spot on my hands. I guess cause from a child, I've been fanatical about my hands, & nails. Ever since the old old movie stars would repeatedly say "~faces can be altered, fixed & changed, even necks (no more scarves). But hands tell the age tale. cause (then) so much harder to anti-age." & "hands are a dead give away of age."

Imagine, if this Vicks VapoRub works, how many of us will have hands that synergize with our "young" face & neck?

This is some crazy information. I swear I have tried anything and everything. Some pretty expensive. I grew up in the 70's when we didn't use suntan lotion or just put iodine mixed in baby oil on our skin. Yeah we were really cool! Now I'm covered from head to toe with "sun kisses" as the girl from Tarte calls them. If something this simple works that will be nuts!! Can't wait to try it. Thanks ALRATIBA.

The big ugly sun spot on my cheekbone, (towards my ear) has indeed gotten bigger, over time, and yup, darker. Fortunately, its my only apparent Sun Damage on the face, (when I understandably could have had far more). I've been very lucky

I find this spot such an eyesore that if I cant do anything about it myself, safely, I hope to finally find a phenomenal Derm & have it taken care of.

Havent had luck finding good Derm tho, & certainly not one that I'd let loose on my face!
