Rosemary oil for hair growth

My hair is growing back in from chemotherapy. I have read several articles on theories for getting it to grow back faster, stronger, thicker, etc.

There's a lot of recommendations for rosemary oil. Most stress not to use it straight, but as part of another oil or product.

Does anyone know of such a prepared product? I am not a DIY type of beauty person. They say it is pretty strong alone. Suggestion made to massage it into scalp also. I sure would like my hair back sooner rather than later.

Is there such a product out there?

I've been thinking of you and hope that you're doing alright.

My hair has become very thin, especially over the past few years. I've had surgery each year for the past three years which included the use of general anesthesia which can wreck havoc on our hair.

I have heard of adding rosemary oil to shampoo as you have described, to help with hair growth.

Another oil that helps with hair growth is castor oil.

I have looked on Amzn and there are different hair growth and hair thickening products there that combine rosemary and other oils/products.

I haven't tried any of them myself.

I have been trying to figure out what to try, myself.

The most common combination product that I have seen with rosemary oil in it is rosemary and mint shampoo. Suave makes such a shampoo, for example.

@hyacinth003 I just bought Mielle Rosemary Mint Strengthening Shampoo infused with Biotin, 12 Oz for $9.00, yesterday on Amazon after seeing on article/ad on Yahoo which praised rosemary for thinning hair. The Mielle oil noted by @qbetzforreal above, a conditioner and other products were available in the Mielle store on Amazon.

The products had a lot of good reviews (some poor ones too, of course) so I decided to try it. I only got the shampoo for now to see if I like it. I figured Rosemary plus Biotin might be good.

It came today and I just got out of the shower after using it, and started reading posts, lol. Too soon to know if it works on thinning hair, but I did like the smell and it lathered and rinsed nicely. I used a bit of my regular conditioner after rinsing. 😊

@hyacinth003 Good to hear that you are on your way to recovery. The Rosemary is inexpensive and definitely worth a try.

The laser helmet has been effective (I have a Theradome) for hair growth. Wen uses Rosemary Leaf Extract in his shampoo conditioners. But the oil added to the shampoo is a cost effective way to experience if this is beneficial for you.

@hyacinth003 I'd mix a small amount in with your shampoo or a conditioner. In general, putting an essential oil, especially a stronger one like Rosemary, can be irritating. If you purchase it, try the oil alone on the inside of your arm as a test before application anywhere else.

***Aveda has a Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner.

Two years ago I over-processed my hair and lost over half of my hair. I broke it off to my scalp. I use this product on my scalp before washing. I use a basic hair oil on the rest of my hair before washing. My hair has always been extremely thick and now I have so much hair and my stylist tells me all the time how healthy it is. I am a huge fan of hair oiling. I leave mine on anywhere from two to four hours depending on how much time I have. Good luck!

Coconut oil every night shows that they will grow from follicles that are still "active".

Better: brow product by Grande -- it is working

A nice oil to use (but won't help with growth is "fractionated coconut oil" (DoTerra) You could then add a couple of drops of Rosemary essential oil and apply to scalp.

I forgot to add... a dermatologist diagnosed my alopecia in 2017 and prescribed my treatments. Rogaine foam and betamethosone propitionate solution along frontal hairline. I don't know if these are applicable to your situation, but these have helped me save my hair! Good luck and wishes for fast healing!

@hyacinth003 The Mielle product looks good, but I cannot find the full ingredient list, other than the biotin, the rosemary and the mint.

Would like to suggest if you do get that, if you find it too strong, you can also mix it with plain olive oil, which also is known for hair growth.

I can attest to the rosemary, however, but if ever I need it, I can use it straight up. With extra B6 supplements, my hair really grows fast!

@hyacinth003 Interesting info. about Rosemary oil and hair growth. I was browsing the 100percent pure website and see that they have a Rosemary Grow Serum - it's $35 and has good reviews. They also have some grow more shampoo/conditioner. I see that those have caffeine in them, if ingredient works for you then those products also have mostly good reviews.

I also googled about rosemary oil and if you buy it on your own as a single ingredient just made sure you blend it into something else - like another oil or a shampoo or conditioner. the instruction I found was:

After mixing about 5 drops of rosemary essential oil with a teaspoon of carrier oil (like jojoba oil or coconut oil), massage evenly into your scalp after bath or shower. Rinsing out the oil afterward is optional — though if you do rinse, let the oil sit on your scalp for at least 5 to 10 minutes beforehand.

And they said in the same article about 5 drops in shampoo or conditioner if you mix it in. And can use about 3 drops into any styling sort of product.

Dear @hyacinth003 There is a saturation of hair oils on the market that feature rosemary oil as an ingredient. You can combine some pure rosemary oil with a bottle of carrier oil, like sesame seed, jojoba, coconut, or even olive oil. You can also make a potent hair treatment in a spray bottle for your scalp with fresh rosemary at home with just water (like a tea).

I recommend watching Curly Proverbz on You Tube for a plethora of hair growth and strengthening tips. She eventually developed a product line at a website with the same name as her YouTube channel. I've been using the Amla mask which you just mix with water as well as her hair growth oil in the pink bottle and I've had significant growth but I've remained consistent for one year now. I have baby fine hair and had previously experienced thinning hair. Rosemary oil has proven as effective or more effective than Monoxydil, but you can learn more about those studies anywhere. I have also lost a lot of my eyebrows. I had very full, thick eyebrows. My lashes have thinned, and I had some success with Latissa, so I will go back to it now. I read castor oil can be very useful on brows.

I cannot attest to this, but in reading about rosemary oil, several articles claimed testing showed rosemary oil to be more effective than Rogaine!

Since you have a diagnosis and treatment plan from a dermatologist, glad it's working for you.

I noticed that Suave has a shampoo and conditioner with Rosemary oil in it. I was looking for another Suave shampoo and saw it today at Walmart.Maybe it would be something to use in addition to the oil you are looking for.

Years ago when I was having a hair shedding problem, Rosemary essential oil help me. The key is to get it on your scalp and to leave it there to do its work. I don’t do well with carrier oils on my scalp (exacerbates shedding on me), so I diluted a few drops with either real aloe (I got mine from Mountain Rose Herbs), or Rooibos tea, dabbed it on at night, and washed it out in the morning.

I personally also have better luck with plain, sulfate containing shampoos, and conventional conditioners. The sulfate free ones (and I tried many), caused a lot of tangling and didn’t rinse as cleanly, they irritate my scalp more, and I end up losing more hair from them. But between the rosemary essential oil and aloe (or rooibos tea) and ditching the sulfate/ silicone free stuff, I did regain some of my thickness.
