Is talc still safe in makeup?

I use mostly Laura Geller baked makeup...now I am wondering if it is safe to use since it contains talc. Talc is only banned in baby powder from what I have been able to find regarding talc....do you use anything with talc? I only use pure cornstarch powder after a shower.

I can't imagine Laura Geller using anything unsafe in any of her products, although I realize that she no longer owns the company. I personally don't use talc. As for after-shower, I haven't heard of using any type of powder or cornstarch unless a person has a skin condition.

From time to time the FDA tests samples of cosmetics to search for asbestos. The last time they did the testing there were no cosmetics found to be contaminated. As I recall they took 50 samples and all were negative.

Unless you opt for a Clean B eauty brand, you are going to most likely see talc in the products, Geller is not designated as Clean.

It can also be inhaled. Whenever you 'powder your nose' there's always some powder flying into the air.

If Laura Gellers products weren't safe, she wouldn't be allowed to sell it. The talc in body power is unsafe because it becomes airborne and is ingested into the lungs.

I don't look at talc as unsafe, per se, and do not avoid using it if it's something I really want. Talc is a common ingredient in lots, if not most, drugstore and dollar store cosmetics. The thing, I think, that irks me most is that it's a very inexpensive ingredient, so one would understand the product pricing at those stores, but the more upscale brands use it too, and charge an arm and a leg for their products that contain it.

Speaking of Laura Geller, I've been seeing her doing commercials lately for her makeup.

She refers people to her own site.

Makes me wonder if she's leaving QVC, but time will tell.

I've heard Laura more than once say that she uses "good- for-you" ingredients. And that is open to interpretation. It's also a catch phrase I've heard from more than 1 vendor.

There is a good article from Huffpost (I'm not linking it because of ads...) "Is Talc in Makeup Dangerous For Your Health" that you may be interested to look up.

I'd say when brushing on any powder form of makeup, just don't breathe it in.

"Clean Beauty" is defined differently by different brands.

@KingstonMom Laura's commercial was made by her corporate marketing department. Laura's website promotes her upcoming QVC appearances. As with any national brand sold by QVC, in the brand's advertising only their website is posted. For example, you will never see a Lancome ad in print or broadcast direct the customer to HSN or any other Lancome retail partner. The ad will direct you to Lancome's website. Their website will direct customers to other supported retailers the brand is sold at. If Lancome is running a special at a store, the TV ads may include a mention of it, but the retailer pays for that.

I use products with talc.

I use dusting powders with talc, too.

I stay away from cornstarch products for the body because I have problems with skin yeast at times, and I had a Derm. tell me that yeast thrives on cornstarch.

I watched a docuseries on HBO called "Not So Pretty" about talc/asbestos in products. According to this doc, ALL talc particles contain asbestos. The problem is, the microscopes they are using to see if a product is "safe" are not powerful enough to pick up the asbestos. Its a very informative show. How much in makeup is unsafe, I dont know, but I stay away from products containing it. Its the first thing I check now when looking at a new eyeshadow palette or face powders... And just cause the FDA clears a product to be safe means not nothing to me. Dont have much faith in our FDA...

If not for the FDA then who do you trust? Please enlighten me. The FDA has been running their show for decades and b/c of them most of our food and drug is as safe as technology allows it to be.

Laura really needs to change her formula , it is so outdated to have talc in a product in 2023. She goes on about what is not in it mineral oil ect. but i don't want talc on my skin. That is just my opinion as a consumer.

@SilleeMee I try to avoid all powdery things that can be inhaled. Too close a relationship between asbestos and talc for me to worry about it, so I avoid it.

I do know other countries have much stricter standards than us. A lot of ingredients are banned , but America continue to use them

One thing I do know is talc is a very cheap ingredient. For example, Mally used to talk about how horrible talc was in make-up. As soon as she sold her company years ago, and just became a contracted sales rep, the product are full of talc. It's profit driven. Her job is to sell as much as she can to the faithful Mally consumers for as cheaply as he can. So disappointing.
