I have had extremely oily skin since I was a teenager and I haven't been a teenager for a long time, my skin is still very oily (maybe that's why I'm not very wrinkled). It doesn't matter what products I try, I look good when I leave my place, but by the time I get to my destination I am shine city! I use sunscreen, primer, medium coverage foundation, and setting powder. Reapplying powder only seems to make everything look worse. Sometimes I'll go product free because then I don't get oily.

Start using a cleansjng oil and avoid the oil free, drying type of skincare products. Oil cuts oil. Drying products encourage more oil production. It shouldn't take too long for your skin to normalize.

@Jordan2 I'm with you, Jordan! I've had oily skin ever since I was 10 and I'm 34. My makeup looks good for a few hours and then i have to touch it up later in the day. Primers that help my makeup last longer are Rimmel Stay Matte primer, NYX Shine Killer and NYX Angel Veil. Have you tried Mattify Ultra Finishing powder? Its a translucent powder from an indie brand called "Mattify Cosmetics" and it really helps cut down on shine as a setting powder. I've come to realize that I'll most likely have oily skin forever, but the good side is that oily skin helps with anti-aging. I'm sure you look beautiful with your makeup, and something that helps me mentally when my makeup gets shiny is I tell myself that I'm glowing rather than getting oily underneath my makeup. I hope this helps

I'm 68.

My hair needs to be shampooed daily if I'm to leave the house! Dry shampoos actually make it worse, and cruddier.

Very well meaning people will tell you that you can 'normalize' your skin & hair, but IMO that's impossible.

We just have to live with it.

But please take @Icegoddess's and my advice, and use blotting papers. They're great. Press or tap lightly and blot, and you won't have to reapply your makeup for quite awhile.

I buy packs on amazon, and even keep a packet in my car.

Oil-based cleansers, such as cleansing balms and cleansing oils, can remove too much of the skin's natural oils which can result in dry/irritated skin. When skin is dry and irritated then oil production goes into overdrive in an attempt to sooth itself. Instead opt for a gentle foaming wash and cleanse with cool water, never too hot or too warm.

Also, when the skin's natural ceramide content dips below optimum levels then oil production begins which is normal. Ceramides help keep the skin from drying out and that will balance oil production. Over-exfoliation and using harsh cleansers strip away ceramides.

I'm almost 70 and still have oily skin on my face. Sometimes it drives me nuts. I found that the harsher my face cleanser, the oilier it got. I'm now using a gentle shae butter cleanser and it is usually better.

I hate makeup and have never used a base or foundation. I just can't stand anything else that feels oily on my skin. Even oil-free and oil-stopping makeup didn't help.

Before I retired, I always kept some wet paper towels in my office and used them to gently blot oil. They also helped with hot flashes.

Philosophy products made it worse. When QVC launched Tatcha cleansing oil and rice exfoliator, I was too frugal to order but found an excellent alternative cleansing oil on Amazon that I remained faithful to for a very long time, until they left Amazon. When I began using that cleansing oil, my congested pores decongested and oil production normalized. My skin has been normal ever since. These days I'm using the Palmer's cleansing oil, which I love, unless I'm traveling. Then I take the Clean It Zero Balm. I do the oil cleansing for makeup removal and then a second cleanse with the Skinn PM in the evening. In the morning, it's Skinn AM. After all these years, none of these oil based products have ever caused dryness or irritation. My skin is soft, smooth, and plump. Of course there are other things that contribute via diet, supplements, and skincare, but I never found the oil based cleansers to be an issue. 🤷‍♀️

A real royal PIA!

I used to use the blotters but I'd go through 4 at a time. Then I read somewhere in a beauty magazine, to use cheap, toilet paper. WTH?

So I bought some cheap, off-brand toilet paper and voila, it worked!

Since then, I store the sheets of varying lengths folded up in a ziploc bag in my purse. Works for me and saves money too.

The toilet paper needs to be like paper, not like Charmin so it doesn't take your makeup off. More like the ones found in public restrooms.

Give it a try! 🙂

@BarbiHollywood

I don't drink coffee so never been in Starbucks, but I've used McDonald's napkins. LoL

I tried that Mally pink thing too but found it too unhygienic for me and like you said no place to store the sponge.

Though it's expensive, I've had some luck with Tatcha's The Silk Canvas as my primer. A tiny amount is all you need. I'm running low but am planning on trying the new Elf Putty Primer Lotion mentioned in a separate thread.
