GENTLE WASHCLOTHS

A few years ago I began using cotton muslin baby washcloths. A friend turned me on to them saying how soft and gentle they are for face cleansing. They feel like the softest diapers, but the size of a large pot holder.

I ordered another pk. of 10 (Amazon 10 for $15.99) last week and forgot to mention here what a great purchase. I throw them in the wash with my towels and no issue. They're great for removing makeup at night and more gentle on the eye area than my terry washcloths. In the morning when I usually don't use a cleanser, I use one of these to just rinse my face with warm water.

Sounds like a good idea to use them . That way you keep your wash cloths and towels makeup free .

I've been buying Karlling muslin cloths from Amazon since I don't know when. I love them. Good gentle exfoliation but they need to be replaced every so often b/c the cotton fibers breakdown, get too soft and then they don't clean as well.

I started with Eve Lom muslin cloths (bought them on sale) and was hooked too. I use them as @Shanus does and keep a clean supply handy. Haven't tried the ones @SilleeMee mentions but may just have to look for those too.

I've been buying the Gerber cotton washcloths for that since I found out how soft they were when I tried out one of my baby's washcloths when I was out of regular washcloths. I've never tried muslin though.

Muslin cloth has a texture which, when used the right way, is a great 'tool' used to exfoliate. First cleanse face as usual. While face is still damp take a single-layer damp muslin cloth and gently rub in small circular motions around the face. Change positions of the cloth as you move around each quad of the face. It's important to use a single layer of cloth in the process and use the pressure of your finger tips to adjust the amount of exfoliation.

As the cloths get old they lose the texture so they won't be as effective at exfoliating. Just replace them when they start to feel too soft.

@Spacrazy I think the ones you're referring to are microfiber, right? These are a thin, cotton muslin and add no extra exfoliation. I love them to cleanse especially before any acids are applied. They are much softer than terry cloth and add no additional exfoliation. I have several packs of 10 and use 2 a day.

@Jk9 I think these are what I use-had them for years and they just keep getting softer. I sure don't want any MORE exfoliating. Every product these days tells me they exfoliate! I'd like to keep all my skin cells, thank you. My skin is thin enough!

I LOVE Polyte premium micro fiber washcloths. They are dual sided, super absorbent, thick, and so soft.

I've bought several packs, and for my daughter's and my mom too. Can't say enough about them. On Amazon.

Everyone sheds dry dead skin, some faster than others, and it has nothing to do with how thin or thick your skin is. With age the dead skin cells don't 'let go' as easy as in youth so older skin tends to accumulate a layer of dull dead skin which can prevent absorption of skincare products. Exfoliating is an important part of any skincare routine regardless of how thin or thick the skin may be.

@Shanus As usual, thank you. You always come through and I appreciate your advice. I've already ordered the muslin washcloths and will give them a "go". I noticed that my granddaughter is using lots of muslin in her newborn's (yes, my great grandson's) layette - I prewashed onesies, receiving blankies, pj's, etc., and hadn't realized this new trend, so, there's that.

Why can't a regular washcloth be used for this? I use a cotton one and use it like you guys do, don't scrub or press too hard. Seems ok to me, don't notice any damage.

@LCR Of course terry cloth washcloths can be used. If you use a lot of active skincare like my acid pads, Vit. C and Retin A, I find a soft cotton muslin cloth is less irritating.

I also use the small, face size microfiber washcloths for my face. I use tubing mascara and these just make the tubes slide off after holding them over my lashes for a few seconds. Also was up great. No fabric softener though.

Sometimes I use microfiber cloths and then other times I use (Karlling) muslin cloths. Just depends on what my skin needs. I found a hidden treasure of microfiber cloths at MicrofiberWarehouse dot com where they have a box of fifty (10"x12") ultra-thin edgeless microfiber wipes perfect for cleansing my face. Two-sided with one side being exfoliating than the other side. They were recommended to me by one of their CS reps. $20. Free shipping both ways, no minimum. What have you got to lose? Once you try these you won't be returning them and in fact I'm on my third box!
