Are You Wasteful

When it comes to beauty, skincare, bath products, and fragrances do you finish them or not? I'm ashamed to say for the most part I get tired of products or want the latest and greatest and toss them aside before they're done. I finish foundations, mascara, shower gels til they're gone, but I never hit pan on eyeshadows and blushes and tire of many lip products. I have been buying too much lately, influenced by influencers ( no pun intended) too much. I have to sit on my hands for awhile!

I finish everything unless it doesn't work for me anymore. I have many items and alternate among them. Won't buy anything unless I'm certain that I'll use it.

I finish a product if I like it. If I don't I don't keep it around just for the sake of not being wasteful.

I mostly try to finish my products unless I've been using it too slowly and feel it's getting too old. With what we pay for what we like it bothers me to throw it away. I literally will put almost empty soap containers or Wen products upside down in a plastic cup to get it all out. It works.

I finish lotions, body wash, moisturizer, face cleanser--unless I try something new that irritates my skin, which has been very rare for me.

I finish foundations and blushes now that I've settled on Laura Geller Balance & Brighten and Balance & Blush. I do have the Dr. Denese Tinted Daycream SPF 40 that was a recent TSV. If I'm going to be out in the sun for more than a half hour, I'll use that.

Eye shadows, unless I just get sick of them, usually get finished...but I never have more than a couple of palettes at a time. I only use one eyeliner, so that gets used up. Mascara gets tossed every 6 months--used to be every 3 months when I was working & using it every day.

Lippies get used up as long as they don't start to smell/taste bad. I have less than a dozen, and rotate through them regularly.

I do the same as mentioned, if I like the product I use every bit of it, but if I don't it is pitched. It's one reason I do not invest in palettes of eye shadowsl, I find a couple that I like and use them up, then have all the rest to pitch. I have found that buying new skin care products on speculation is not a good investment for me either, I stay with my tried and true products for the most part. I really miss the big cosmetic counters where they often gifted samples or had a promotion that included a trial of products. There was a 'try me' sale every once in a while at one of the high end stores, one could buy 5 or 6 trial products for a minimal investment with a purchase....I loved that and would take advantage of it. But I've not seen that offered for many years.

Before I buy anything I usually read almost everything about it before making my decision. That works for me most of the time except when it doesn't then I use it once and in the trash it goes. That doesn't happen often. I'm not a risk taker so not much is wasted around here.

I'm more wasteful in the kitchen than in skincare things. I may use something up even if it's not that great, but I make a point of no re-purchase.

By this time I know my most flattering shades and performers, so I usually just stick to them.

Yes, I am ashamed to say that I am wasteful, I used to purchase expensive skin care products and even hair products whenever I saw an ad or saw a presentation on TV, etc., listening to how wonderful you will look, on and on...now, since being retired I am trying to be more frugal with my spending and try to stay and use up what I have until I run out. If I really want to try a new product, I will purchase a trial size if available.

@SoCal Bred Same here. I always ask for samples or trial sizes. I do a lot of research like @SilleeMee on skincare before purchasing. If what I already have works, why move on to something new?

Yes------I try not to be but I have some much to use. That is all my fault, I admit it. I am trying hard to not to buy anymore tho. These last few years I have tossed out stuff that are bad smelling or just not to my liking anymore or the wrong colors. I am not influenced by influencers at all, never watch them or even know of any. I do replace the things I use up tho. What I NEED is an area where I can display it all so I know what I have and what it is. Right now, because of NO extra space, things are in drawers--my X-ray vision isn't what it used to be--can't see thru the drawers!!!

I like variety. I have a few shampoos/body washes/ face soap/moisturizers going at the same time. I like to switch it up. But I will finish them.

Makeup is another story. I have numerous blushes, bronzers and eye pencils. None are even remotely close to hitting pan and I'm ok with that. A few eyeshadows have hit pan.

It takes me a long time to use up a lip product because I have a lot. It is what it is.

As I age I use less makeup.

I have a lot of makeup - eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks, etc. Enjoy it all. I like variety and, to me, make up is fun so I'm ok with my stash.

Okay, I'm going to admit it, I'm very odd. LOL! I am wasteful (dumb) in that I purchase waaaaaay too many products I don't need and won't live long enough to even use. But I'm also the type to use things down to the last drop rather then toss it...I have tossing issues.....cannot toss! 😲 Even though I have plenty of money, I'm the one cutting toothpaste tubes and lotion bottles in half so I can dig out every last bit of the product. WTH?

Of the things that I like, I will use up, and repurchase. Of things that I don't like, like foundation where the color is not quite right, or I didn't care for the finish, whatever, I save it to wear on days that I know I have no plans to go out, but still want a little makeup to look presentable, just in case.

On those days, I don't particularly care if the foundation shade is not perfect, eyeshadow doesn't blend well etc.

That being said, when I have used about half of those less than stellar products, I toss them out. By then, I will have new crop of try outs that didn't pan out.

I guess in that sense I am being wasteful. Will have to remedy that!

I used to be wasteful when I bought products on a whim, years ago. I now no longer do that, I don't purchase unless I am absolutely sure I want it/ or need it....

Once in a while I waste a travel size mascara, but it usually a freebie, not one I purchased.

I like to try Trial or travel sizes if I am not sure about a product,so that if I don't like it, its not that big of a deal...I also do a purge usually twice a year!!!!

A lot of the stuff that I don't like or use are items that I received in my Macy's Beauty Bag, and most I give away!!

I try not to be wasteful, but the one thing I won't abide is a bad lippie color. Those go straight to trash. And I can't always tell in the store if it has a bit of orange in it. I will throw eyeshadow palettes in the trash if I have used all of the colors I like. As I said in another thread, I'll often use a skincare product I'm not thrilled with to use it up rather than throw it away, or I'll try and find another use for it.

Yes I am guilty of buying to much (fill in the blank!) and struggling to use it up BEFORE I purchase more in this same category LOL!

I seem to have a "issue" with body washes and a few to many body lotions. I have not purchased eye shadow, lip gloss, lip sticks in years and am still using up what I have until gone. I am thinking it's going to take me a few more years as I use very little eye shadow so the few I have take a long time to hit pan. I tend to use my eyeshadow sticks which I haven't purchased any in about 1yr but I love them and use them often.

Mascara is my issue...I just can't find one that works for me and I have "wasted" money trying many of them. Tossed them out if purchased from drugstore.

As for foundation I tend to buy the few that I already know work for me and use until gone. IF I try a new one I go to store for a sample. Face powders take me several yrs to get to the bottom and I only use a tiny amount a few times per week so they last long. I almost never use blush (I have rosacea) just a tiny touch of bronzer instead.

If I get a product that is just not working for me no matter how many attempts and I have kept it around for a yr I will finally just toss it out. It upsets me but keeping it taking up space upsets me more so in the trash it goes!

In general I'm not wasteful, but I am a bit mad at myself because I threw out several products this past year. Just didn't like them, and some were pricey. I try to hold off before buying more "stuff", that I already have enough of.

Two products, barely used that annoyed me so much were, pur 3 in 1 face powder, and Laura Geller baked blush. The face powder, as nice as the shade was for my skin, gave me pores I never knew I had, looked like holes all over my face, just awful. I tried several different application techniques, finally gave up, tossed it.

Laura geller blush, was so light, looked like a highlighter, and it always looked cakey, gone with that!

A few other products I hated, so now I'm really trying to be wise in my purchases. Same with skincare, I'll dump something if it causes breakouts, but I usually stay with what I like and always works. I'll switch up a retinol, C, or face pads, that's it. I try other eye creams, but nothing beats Shiseido...so im not switching anymore.

Now I have more foundation then I'd like to use...I just bought the Revlon Illuminance because it's so nice. Have about 4 foundations now, a stick, an spf tint, and 2 liquids...I really only want to use the Revlon. Feel wasteful about having 4 I don't need 🤷‍♀️
