I use a lip liner that is very natural. Smashbox Nude Lip Pencil is the best! I use ""fair"" but it comes in 4 colors.

I used to use lip liner years ago, but then just sort of stopped. I don't know why. I'm thinking of using it again, although it will be another step. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe that's why I stopped...to cut down on time.

Do any of you wear it?

On 12/27/2013 Lannie said:
On 12/27/2013 4doggies said:
Even if your liner matches your lipstick, it lasts longer so if you don't reapply lipstick frequently, you end up with the dreaded 'ring around the lips' look.

Exactly. And you may think it matches your lips, but go out in the sun and look at it.

I routinely check myself out in my car mirror in the sun, and the L'Oreal stuff is pretty much a perfect match for my natural lip color. You haven't found the right shade/formulation yet. And if you think you look better with no liner and lipstick crawling up into the little lines and wrinkles above your lips.......get up into your 50's, 60's, and up and let us know how that's workin' out for you.

No, lip liner is not out. If that were the case, you would have a hard time finding them and they are a part of every makeup line. What is out, as others have mentioned, is that too dark liner/too light lipstick look. I use liner everyday. I look horrible without it. My lip look is much better with a little definition from a pencil. My go-to is Estee Lauder Fig.

As I get older I find I really need the liner to keep my lipstick from feathering out and disappearing from my lips. As someone else said, I also do not care for the visible lip liner look. I try to find liners that either match my lip color or the lipstick shade I am wearing. I don't like to see the outline of the lip, but rather I like that it provides a base for my lipstick. I outline, gently, then fill in, gently, then blot, then apply lipstick over. I also do not like the look of covering the cupid's bow with liner (as Mally and LR tend to do). I think it looks like a glob of product in the middle of the upper lip and what is so bad about the cupid's bow anyway? When I've tried that look, it doesn't look like my lips are bigger, it looks like I don't know where they are - an image of Betty Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane comes to mind. Often times with makeup color too much is too much.

I could never use lipliner, I could never get it to look right. I have thin lips and it just always seemed to make them look smaller, plus I could never seem to get the line right. Now I just use glosses anyway, sheer colors, nothing heavy, so a lipliner would definitely be out.

I line and fill in the entire lip, then apply lipstick and gloss. If the lipstick wears off, as mine often does, you still have the liner color remaining, but not just an "outline", which I do believe is outdated.

Yes, this. If I wear a red lip, I'll wear a red liner underneath.

I think it needs to be applied differently than before.

Don't just outline the lips...fill them in with liner too, before applying lip color.

That way when the color fades, you won't have that 80s liner look.
