Heard the Ugly Word "Unfortunately" at Sephora Today

Went to Sephora today to buy foundation. As I'm in the Nars section, I don't see my favorite Sheer Glow. A girl comes over to see if she can help and when I told her what I was looking for, she said that ugly word "unfortunately". It seems Sephora is trying to steer people over to the Nars Light Reflecting foundation and have removed Sheer Glow from the B&M store shelves. She tells me it's now only available at Sephora Online. Now, I have a small B&M store, so it really could just be that the smaller locations are doing that, but regardless, I'm negatively affected by this decision.

She did make a couple of suggestions for alternatives that were similar, but both are considered more of a tinted moisturizer than full-on foundadtion. I went ahead and had her order the Sheer Glow for me, and she gave me some samples in the two choices she suggested to try, Fenty Eaze Drops and Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint.

One problem I have that my shade in Nars, Mont Blanc, is rarely a match for other brands using Sephora's shade selector.

BTW, I did try the Light Reflecting Nars foundation a few months ago when it was mentioned here. I liked it okay, but when I compared pics of myself side-by-side with both foundations I didn't like what I was seeing.

Well heck, @Icegoddess that sure is a shame. At least the sales associate could order it for you online but thats not as convenient as having it in the store.

@JudyL , yeah, I can do that from home, but I'd like to give the local stores the business when I can. I wonder if Sephora is doing this on their own or whether Nars is actually behind it and they plan on discontinuing that product.

My son uses a certain brand of toothpaste. So for his birthday and Christmas we go to a certain Vitamin store to buy it.

Went last week to the store. There was one box of toothpaste and not the flavor he likes.

Asked the clerk. She said they rarely get what they order when they try to get more products. She said that they keep ordering but the past year or so, rarely do they get everything they order.

She said to try and order directly from the company.

It seems more and more some B&M stores are slowly becoming obsolete.

Nars Sheer Glow L2 is available at Macy's for $39.95. It is also available at Bloomingdale's in that shade for $47.00. You can check those two sites and order online. Can't remember which store said "low quantity."

@lovemybichonfrise , thanks, but they ordered it for me already at the Sephora store. I just have to wait 4 or 5 days and then go back and pick it up. I'm just worried now that it is being discontinued.

Great. I hate it when you finally get something you like and works for you and then it's gone. Had that happen with two Chanel lip glosses that I bought online from Macy's in the height of the pandemic. Now, both colors are gone, never to return. Grrrrr!!

@lovemybichonfrise I'm the kiss of death for products. Dior also discontinued my favorite lipstick. Luckily, I was able to buy one before they disappeared and I can make them last a long time. I'm still working on the one I was low on when I discovered it had been discontinued.

My husband claimed the other day my superpower for killing products I love is rubbing off on him after over 20 years of marriage.

@drizzellla That's good information, thanks. I'm also having difficulty on some of my favs - two brands I've been on AD at Q for a couple of years (I keep renewing them. This month they sent notice they went on waitlist so I found it and got it factory direct easily and only $1.50 more. Same thing with a my Aqua Panna water I've been getting from WalMart and/or Amazon. Good luck to us all...

@Spacrazy And on the plus side. Once you purchase directly from the company, many times they will send you emails about special sales they have once in awhile on their products.

And here I thought I was the only one! I had the same experience with MAC. The loose face powder I've been using for several years was a perfect match and a very good product. I went to buy more online on their website only to find it was discontinued. Turned the Internet upside down looking for it, only finding a few resources with limited quantities and an outrageous price. Got lucky and found someone selling my powder on eBay and not too much of a price gouge. I bought 2 containers of my beloved color, and figure that by the time I use those up, I will have found another product that matches as well and that I like as much.

I don't understand the thought process that makes a company do this. It's all well and good to have new products to add to the product mix, but why chase away solid customers by discontinuing a successful product?

I've purchased Nars eye shadow primer for years from Sephora. It's the one primer that I've used that does what it says, doesn't cake or turn flaky, just perfect! During Covid, it took a while to get. Post Covid, I've been on a wait list for a year now. I was thinking that since a lot of makeup is made in China, they couldn't get it manufactured any longer. I always wonder why they make "new and improved" items and just who is the winner in the end.

@drizzellla Yes. We went to a Staples store to buy some office supplies yesterday and they had NOTHING IN STOCK I needed....I will just start using online Staples or such and not waste my time driving to a physical store. I find that most of my needs are now pretty much order from Amazon....easy....fast....and great selection. Less and less do I go to stores... I am even buying groceries online now and NEVER though I would that!

My brother was a long distance truck driver for 20 years. After hearing what he has encountered, I can understand that there are some big issues that companies, truck companies and truckers are dealing with.

My brother was a "top tier" trucker with his company. He had 6 million miles without an accident. The trucking company appreciated having him as an employee and they showed it. But my brother still retired earlier this year.

Hope they don't discontinue your product Icegoddess.

It happened to me too with a lipstick which was very popular for at least 25 years.

It was called Bobbi Brown "nude" a red toned lipstick.

I usually get it at Bloomie's. It was gone. The Bobbi brown "Nude" was so popular it had it's own little space on their website.

So I started checking around and called the company. Yep.....gone in mid 2022. I asked the agent why do tis when it's a popular seller? She said she would pass it along. Now I think they have a "pink nude" to replace it. It's nothing like it.

I then checked ebay and one seller had 4 tubes. I bought them all. It wll give me time to find a new shade that is similar.

I don't understand why they cancel popular products. Lancome did it too with a very popular single brown eyeshadow shade. I found a dupe with MAC of it but it's still not the same.

YES! @lovemybichonfrise @Icegoddess Yes!!! I miss many favorite lipglosses that disappeared without warning. I also miss my favorite Becca cosmetics eyeshadows and highlighters!😭💄💋

So, I return home tonight from a function and notice a package sitting on my front porch. I figured it was part of my Amazon order from Monday, but it was my foundation I had ordered from Sephora YESTERDAY. It's funny, when the girl was placing the order, she told me it would be here in 4 or 5 days and I jokingly said "You mean I won't get it by Sunday?". And I thought I was going to have to go back to the store to pick it up. Good job Sephora.
