Anyone Following the Latest Lashgate Scandal?

Beauty Influencer Mikayla Noguiera (?) is known for doing BIG dramatic eye looks. She's in hot water for demoing a Loreal mascara and adding lashes without disclosing it and then lying about it. I haven't really intentionally followed many influencers but once I stopped to watch one of her videos on a Facebook feed and now they're always popping up. I definitely don't like her potty mouth, and the lying is certainly disappointing, but somehow have a soft spot for her. The influencer world is ganging up on her. I wish she'd come clean, own it, apologize, and move forward doing better. Instead, she's carrying on, business as usual, and not addressing it. That could hurt her long term rather than just telling the truth.

@JeanLouiseFinch I don't follow influencers. However, from what you have stated, I don't feel a soft spot for her. If she lied, and many do, they need to be held accountable. Many people follow these influencers and rely on accuracy. How many purchased the Loreal item only to find out that it doesn't work the way demonstrated by Mikayla. Not cool.

I did hear about this, I wonder if she will work with Loreal on a response because I think it was sponsored. I agree if there were lies or attempts to mislead she should come out with it and work through the consequences.

This "industry" has a lot of backbiting and seems pretty vicious.

I haven’t seen anyone jump on her. I have seen other influencers say she was wrong. Some of them were critical of L’Oréal as well. It was a sponsored ad. Surely someone at the brand saw it first.

It's no secret that tricks and filters are always used in advertising. Added lashes, photoshopping, and such never used to be disclosed but I think there are some new laws that require it now. It goes unmentioned appears but in tiny print somewhere. If it was a partnership or sponsored ad, L'Oreal should be helping the girl with damage control, but the longer it takes it seems they're just hanging her out to dry. At this point, it doesn't look like L'Oréal cares too much. They can always find another face. Mikayla is only in her early twenties and just rose to fame and popularity within the last couple of years. Yes, right is right and wrong is wrong, but I can feel some level compassion for her too, being that she's young, inexperienced, maybe unwise in this area, and feeling some pressure to lie. She's 100% wrong, but the public pile on would be a lot for anyone to withstand.

I never heard of her, but wouldn't feel any compassion. If she got caught in a lie, it's her own fault. Something like this would cause bad publicity. If she can't handle the criticism, she shouldn't have gone into the influencer business in the first place.

Never heard of her and I don't follow YouTubers, but I have yet to see a mascara commercial where I believe the models are only in their own lashes and the advertised mascara.

I steer clear of nonsense. I buy beauty products that make sense to me and I don't want a bunch of junk laying around, cluttering up my space. When something is done, I either replace it with a new or purchase something different. I don't wear false eyelashes. I am a perfect candidate for them too. but I don't feel the need to purchase them, because I don't take this makeup stuff that seriously.

People are always lying with tricks and gimmicks. Even companies lie about products. They have to always try to come up with junk to make you spend your money. Whoever this person is, he/she should be ashamed of themselves.

@cjm61, I don't follow any youtubers either. I agree with you that the deception is despicable. I don't follow anyone on social media platforms. I only have one facebook. That's enough for me.

@JeanLouiseFinch When I first heard about this, I searched out the video and watched it a few times. If you haven't watched the video (and I don't know if it's still up) it's very short and if you blink, you'll miss the last few seconds which is whent the DRAMALAMADINGDONG is supposedly taking place.

She starts with one eye that has mascara on and one that does not so you can the obvious (and it is obvious) difference. She discusses how great the mascara is and then applies it while you watch. The difference IS amazing; no doubt. I mean, VERY amazing. That isn't the Lashgate issue. It's the last seconds when she pans back and shows a full face and THEN BAM!!! the lashes look MUCH fuller at the BASE of the lashes. Now, could it have been achieved by a few more concentrated coats of mascara JUST at the base of her lashes? Yes. Or a small strip of false lashes could have applied.

The thing is, I as someone who can achieve multiple different looks with mascara based on the brand and application AND often wears false lashes.....can't really tell which it is. Considering ALL the BS that so many YouTubers in the cosmetic world have pulled, it's pretty hypocritical for these SAME folks to be jumping on her. I honestly don't know if she did falsies at the end or not and I'm certainly NOT going to claim she did without proof. Shame those cut-thoat's don't live by the same rule.

Well, then you must be unfamiliar with Latisse and all the drugs for eye pressure that gives you such long lashes you look like you are wearing false lashes 24/7. I have hypertensive eye disease and the side effect of my med is dark, long lashes.

My lashes touch my eyebrows and mascara just darkens them. Photographed they would look like I am wearing false lashes. My ophthalmologist told me men on Latisse like drugs come into her office complaining about the meds.😄

Before I was diagnosed I met for lunch with some girlfriends with gorgeous lashes. I asked them and all of them were using Latisse. No one since has had difficulty with any side effects. So I bet a lot of beauty influencers use it @monicakm .😌

@Trinity11 I'm well aware of Latisse. I have used many iteradtions of lash growth serums including generic latisse, and none of them give me the lashes the models in mascara commercials have. The best for me was RapidLash before they removed the prostaglandin in it, but it only gave me longer lashes, not more lashes. The models in mascara commercials all have thick feathery lashes, something I rarely see in real lashes.

I wasn't suggesting you should try it @Icegoddess . Merely, stating that some YouTubers may be telling the truth. As I have had results with "thick feathery lashes".
