I'm intrigued by what I've been reading about in below thread on spf sunscreen. I use tinted moisturizer with spf and also foundation with spf.

Dry skin... Did I say dry skin? that has to be correctly hydrated to have lasting hydration throughout the day.
I would love something to give me a velvety finish.

I'm afraid any powder will absorb what I've worked to hydrate with. I've read that primers can help. What I'm afraid of with primers is having to throw away money until I find something that I'm satisfied with, which I cannot do.
I also do not live anywhere near a Sephora or Ulta. So you see my dilemma.

My tinted moisturizer doesn't sit in my lines thank goodness. It's really hard to find a product that works for a particular issue.
I thought about trying Bare Minerals mineral veil again. I've read here that it might be used to set concealer as well.

Thoughts? This is the best board here imo
Ty

I also have dry skin along with sensitive skin. I love It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Perfecting Powder A571186. I use a primer, foundation and finish my face with the Perfecting Powder. I also add a setting spray before moving on to my eyes. I am not a fan of Bare Minerals Veil or Laura Mercier Setting Powder. Both settled in my fine lines and made me look older. I use a big, fluffy brush to apply the Perfecting Powder and it gives me a airbrushed finish.

I have a couple powders that I use. One is the Wet n Wild Photo Focus which is a loose powder and the Rimmel Stay Matte powder thats in a compact. Oh and I do have IT Bye Bye Pores pressed but tend to reach for the other two more. I use a powder puff that I got from Amazon - a set of 6 very inexpensive - and lightly dust over my T-zone and maybe over the rest of my face if I feel like it. For me, this works better than a brush.

I don't use primers unless I need foundation to stay for many hours. If your skin is dry (like mine), hydration is key before foundation even if using a tinted moisturizer.

SPF in foundation or a tinted moisturizer is not a factor for me since I wouldn't wear a tinted product on my neck and mess up my clothing. SPF should be applied before foundation.

I begin my dry skin routine with a clean face...just a splash of water....no cleansing needed if cleansed the night before. I then go to my Vit. C serum, then a good moisturizer, even if using a tinted moisturizer...my choice is Bobbi Brown's Vitamin Enriched Face Base. This is a "blurring" moisturizer that's moisturizing, but more of a gel formulation so there isn't too much hydration if you want to use a tinted moisturizer...

I do add Laura Mercier Transluscent powder only in the t zone. Applying powder all over your dry skin can settle into lines. A velvety, matte finish is achieved with foundations not powders which are drying. Estee Lauder Doubler Wear and Lancome make good hydrating, but somewhat matte foundations. I also like and wear Bobbi Brown's Weightless Skin Foundation. Stick foundations like Westman Atilier ($$$) are great, too.

Of course my first choice for every day is a tinted moisturizer w/ a bit of powder to set under eyes, around nose, a bit on forehead and chin if needed. If you have dry skin, I'd look for a more hydrating foundation instead of a matte finish. It's more youthful to not have too matte a finish.

I also love a tinted moisturizer with a concealer in the same shade to cover any areas of concern. That's the best of both worlds...hydration and coverage. I will say that with my dry skin (especially in winter) that a tinted moisturizer is not enough hydration for me. As @monicakm stated, good skincare and prep before any foundation you choose is key.

I like a loose powder, in translucent over my foundation. Loreal makes a hydrating one, and Revlon also makes one...I've used both...They're not drying and don't settle in lines. As of today I am looking into Pur 4 in 1 mineral powder spf 15...looks nice with some skincare, recommended to me here on this board.

From the beginning of time ... well, the time I started wearing makeup ... I have always used loose powder to set my makeup and make it look "flawless".

In the early days, I used Coty Loose powder ... but Corn Silk was good in my teen oily skin days.

Over the years I've tried many many whenever someone raved about something.

I have even mixed my own loose powders ... usually adding darker powder to the mix in the summer if I was getting tan. Powder has to be very precise in color unless it's a translucent version of the brand. And if one of the powders I mix in is a little too matte, I add a smidge of a light reflective highlighting powder to offset the mix. Laura Geller used to make a very nice reflective powder, don't know if she still offers it.

At one time I had about a dozen different brands or shades or powders that I take from to update the mix for the current season ... about every 4 months or so.

Oh! And the best part is that I would always put my special mixture in a glass jar with jewels and pretty stones on the lid. Looks like a jewelry box.

These days, I find Bare Minerals works for me. It might be something else next year.
