Curling Iron 🤔

Hi Ladies -

I need a new curling iron and I am wondering if price really matters.

I am considering an inexpensive conair ceramic iron for under $25, but do the higher end models really make a difference in the final outcome?

I have fine, somewhat thinning hair, and I want to be as gentle with it as possible, but I do need heat to style it.

I've only purchased fairly inexpensive curling irons ... not sure I've every paid more than $30 for one. I do use heat protectant and keep to a lower heat. I also buy the ceramic curling irons. The one I have now is a Revlon curling iron and it's lasted a few years. Usually the stupid spring on the clamp breaks, then I have to buy a new one.

I'm saving my pennies to buy the Shark HD440BK FlexStyle Air Drying & Styling System with Ultimate 6-Piece Accessory Pack of Auto-Wrap Curlers, Curl-Defining Diffuser, Oval Brush, Paddle Brush & Concentrator Attachments, which is a Dyson knock off. I'm thinking it will be better for my hair, but it's pricey.

I found a Hot Tools at TJMaxx 10 years ago for $25.00, been great. I also have an old ConAir I've had forever as my backup. Both have been great, not expensive or complicated.

I don't think you need to buy a "spendy" one...as mine have done the trick very nicely and lasted long.

Btw, my cousin who's a hairdresser recommended the Hot Tools brand at the time. But, also, like I said my ConAir's been just fine too. Hope that helps~Good luck!

I buy the :Helen of Troy" brand at Sally Beauty, also on line.

They last and last. I am well pleased.

I have an inexpensive hair dryer & flat iron.

They work just fine for me & I like them.

I like the Conair ceramic very much, my hair feels better than the HOT tools ones which are good too,

Regretfully, I found the more expensive curling iron better because I can adjust the temperature. Cheaper ones usually don't come with that functionality. My hair is fine and thin and I don't want to scorch my hair.

I have a ConAir w/adjustable temp. Prob 5+ yrs old and still going strong.

I did try a Hot Tools 1 1/2" iron. I found it heavy to use and the barrel length too long.

@Swedishmiss I don't think it matters a great deal. I recently bought a more expensive one but it's much heavier than my old cheaper one but has more heat settings. I would consider how often you use the iron. I only need mine a couple of times a week. The Conair ceramic barrel sounds pretty good to me. Enjoy!

@Swedishmiss Hi. I've gone through many inexpensive irons and a few years ago ordered a T3 from Amazon. My hair is silver now and I need to look for temp control since I only use 300 degress. There was also a 2 or 3 yr. warantee. I also consider where the buttons are located. Some are placed on the handle where they are in the way and I hit them while curling.

The size barrels I have are a 1 inch for when I wear my hair with natural curls and need to touch up on no wash days and a 2 inch to wear my hair smoother.

I was using a Hot Tools iron for years. I recently purchased a Chi Lava curling iron and find it to be far superior in performance (evenly distributes the heat) than the Hot Tools iron. It glides through the hair wonderfully and curls the hair great. It also has an auto-shut off. It was worth paying more - in my opinion.

I don't think the price matters, but the features do. I find the wand style much easier to use. I use a heat glove to protect my fingers. I have a conair. I have had several expensive ones, but find easy to use to be best. You may want to get heat adjustability for your fine hair.

I’ve had a Chi curling iron for 15+ years and although I haven’t used a cheaper one in years to compare to, this one makes my hair so smooth and shiny so hoping it lasts anther 15!

Don't know if you bought one yet, @Swedishmiss . Just wanted to mention Forever Your Curl, though not inexpensive. But as to ease of use and a great result, I love mine, and my DD loves hers.

I bought a CHI curling iron many years ago. It was the best curling iron ever!!! My curl lasted all day, and I have fine, straight hair.

One day I dropped it on the bathroom tile and it broke. I got my money worth though because I used it for many years.

Bought another CHI. It did not work well like the original CHI. Guess it's being made with less quality and increased price. Because of this experience will never buy any CHI product again.

I'm back to using Hot Tools curling iron with the gold barrel. My hairdresser said this one is very good. I'm pleased, but it's not as good as the original CHI many years ago.

I will never spend hundreds of dollars on any hair tools.

I understand the quality of things available now. We used to be loyal to the Maytag brand, but after having purchased a washer, dryer and refrigerator in the last few years, we will no longer buy anything Maytag.

Mine last for about 10 years and I get them at Walmart, Conair 1½ barrel around $15.00. Probably more now since my last one I bought about 5 years ago. No need to spend a great deal when these work great.

I have used Hot Tools for years. They last and are usually under 30.00...I get mine from Sally's!! But I know Ulta sells them as well.
