JVN Embody Shampoo & Conditioner

Recently ordered the Shine Drops to try and in that order was a sample of the Embody Voluminizing Shampoo and Conditioner. Decided to use the shampoo and conditioner today and not impressed. While washing my hair, the shampoo felt like it was sucking the life out of my hair. The conditioner seemed ok. Blew dry my hair to see what the volume would be like and it was good but my hair looked and acted so dried out. So the shampoo and conditioner are a no-go for me. Glad I got samples before purchasing the full size. Will go back to using my Tweak'd.

Also tried the Shine Drops. Put three drops in my hand and rubbed them together and ran my hands over my hair. Verdict is still out. Hair looks ok, not sure it looks shinier than usual. Will check my hair again in a bit. Also the oil, to me, seemed to make my hair look oily. Doesn't feel oily, but for some reason it looked it in a few places. So next time will try 2 drops.

I have used a few products from this line and haven't noticed that much difference in my very fine, naturally curly hair. I do color and blow it out straight.

Apologize for not naming the products as they are not within reach right now.

I've tried a myriad of products in my lifetime and haven't found anything extraordinary.

Currently using some "It's a 10" products and the JVN until they run out.

@JudyL , I'm using both the volumizing and hydrating shampoo, and conditioner. They're both ok, and didn't dry my hair out. Yesterday I needed the conditioning spray to comb my hair out, it was tangled. I also used the air dry cream, and the shine drops. Can't really see much difference in shine or my hair quality. But nothing to complain about either. Honestly I have seen much more shine and improvement from Oribe, and Keratase, and NEVER need anything more to comb my hair out from either of these. Oribe is very expensive, a little goes goes a long way, and the smell is just out of this world, and lasts in my hair...I also have the perfume. Keratase gave me super shiny hair, but for some reason I lose alot of hair while conditioning, so I stopped using it.

As for JVN, like I said, nothing to complain about, but I've used better...so I probably won't re-order.

@JudyL @Dazlin I have been using JVN since the summer. I am loving the way the styling products make my hair look and feel but I agree with you @JudyL I am not a fan of the shampoo and conditioner. My hair is a tangled mess after washing. I just switched to Shea Moisture but I haven't given it enough of a chance to decide if this was the right choice. I also don't find I get a lot of shine from the shine drops but it does smooth my hair and give it a luster. I also like the smell. I really like the Instant Recovery Serum and Leave in conditioner. The serum is a heat protectent. JVN also makes a Blowout Stying Milk which I am trying out now but I think I prefer the Serum. The leave in conditioner revieves my second and third day hair.

Sounds like the shampoo could have been a clarifying one. Did it say it was a clarifier? I steer clear of those. When I need to get excess product out I use a vinegar and water rinse. Easy peasy.

@JudyL L'Oreal Elvive makes a really good volumizing shampoo and conditioner. It also has a "miracle oil" that goes with for added sheen. The bottles are purple. Has really good reviews.

I'm about to start with some new hair care products into the New Year and I hope they work out ok. No samples for me, have to buy the product and hope for the best.

@JudyL I've found that many volumizing products, S&C, styling products, usually dry out my hair. If they don't have alcohol, they volumize by leaving out conditioning ingredients that may weigh hair down and therefore takes away volume.

I have used the volumizing s&c, but have used and like the Nurturizing set, Air Dry Cream and the "serum" in a jar and find it to be great. I do have curly hair and a lot of moisture is needed.

@Shanus I am getting the same results as JudyL and Dazzlin with the Hydrating shampoo and conditioner as well as the Volumizing so I don't think it has anything to do with the type of shampoo and conditioner she is using.

@Shanus Don't feel bad. I discovered JVN from an ad on facebook. Just because a product works for someone doesn't mean it will work for everyone. I plan to stick with the styling products. I just need to find my holy grail shampoo and conditioner.

@Shanus - don't feel bad. I do understand how you feel because I've sung the praises for items on here and they haven't worked for some people and then I feel bad. However, think most of us realize what works for some doesn't work for others and thats ok. We all know the risks when trying somethng new - whether you or someone else on the board recommends it or our best girlfriend.

@Dazlin - You mentioned that you have the perfume. Is this Oribe perfume? Is this a hair perfume? Can you describe the scent?

JudyL, I just got a bunch of JVN products, I took the quiz on his website. It suggested the Volume shampoo but the Hydrating conditioner. The shampoo does make my hair thicker and somewhat tangled, but with the hydrating conditioner, it works really well and I still get tons of volume. I also use the Embody Volumizing Foam & Air Dry Cream. It's good that you tried it out with samples first, but if you decide to give it another try, go with the hydrating conditioner. And by the way, I also use & LOVE Tweak'd!

@San Antonio Gal , I have the perfume for body, but you can spritz it on hair. This my 2nd bottle...the hair products smell better, IMO, the shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, everything, it's wonderful. So I use the perfume too...Sorry I really don't know the notes off hand, but you can look on the Oribe site for more details. What I can describe is its such fresh, clean scent, maybe a bit fruity, and the products have a lasting smell in my hair, (I like even better than the perfume). Nothing smells like it, so I can't compare.

When I was getting my hair cut at my salon, I noticed my hair had this addicting scent, I kept smelling it. So I asked my stylist and she showed me all the Oribe products they use...so that was it!! The entire salon smells heavenly when I walk in.

@lyndajr @JudyL I also took the hair quiz that recommended the volumizing shampoo and hydrating conditioner. I had tangled hair with this configuration. Then I tried the hydrating shampoo with the hydrating conditioner - same result.

@Shanus ...its hit and miss...im glad I tried it. I'm not having any major problems with it, like some here, but like I said, I've used much better. One thing, it's not over priced, so im glad about that. I actually got the shine drops and air dry cream for $25...so no complaints. I just don't see any enhanced shine, too bad. I even went outside in my bright Florida sunshine 🌞 with a mirror to look at my hair...LOL..no big difference in shine 🤷‍♀️.

I'll probably order Oribe again, and switch off with Pureology...very good products...very shiny 🙂.

@Dazlin What formulation of Pureology do you use? I used to use this brand many many years ago as it was recommended by my stylist. I can't remember why I stopped using it. Maybe the price. Some of their conditioners have silicones which I avoid but I might be willing to try a formulation without them.

@ninjawife , right now I'm using the strengthening for blondes. I also have used the hydrating line...the conditioner is minty...very refreshing on the scalp.
