Why is everyone dying their hair black?

Where did this trend start? Some influencers? Celebrities? Shortage of hair dye in other colors? Highlighting seemed to be the trend for years and years. No more. I was watching Erin Burnett and Harry Enten (CNN"s host and numbers guru) last week and both had black hair. I mention that just to say it's going on with both men and women.

I just read an article that different shades of brown is the "hottest" hair color right now. When I look around I see nothing different as far as hair color.

Just a guess......some people lighten their hair when the weather is warm and go darker in the winter.

I think there is a movie with Wednesday Adams that is hot right now. The Wednesday dance and hairstyle is the hottest ticket on TikTok everybody's doing it. My feed is all about it.

who knew it was a trend?

i dye my hair black/jet black pearl often.

i like alternating between very dark blacks or reds.

i use it to cover some gray around my face and to give my hair some body and texture. i have been doing this for years now, straight out of a box.

Yikes. Maybe for the yungins! Black is very harsh against the face when you get older... My opinion-

Clarifying- depends on your complexion!! My natural color is darkest brown/ black. It looked awful on me as I aged.

I have seen a lot more dark brown, mahogany hair colors and some beautiful ebony black. I welcome the trend because when I was growing up the Clairol campaign was pushing everyone should be blonde. Remember the ad saying "If I have one life to live, let me live it as a blonde."🥺🤣

Years ago at a restaurant in Saks Fifth Ave, the tables were close and a beautiful raven haired woman struck up a conversation with me. She shared with me that she was 80. It stayed with me all these years because her dark hair was so beautiful. Her complexion was beautiful with it.

If women over 60 can have long hair, another "rule" I grew up with now being broken, they surely can have dark hair if they like it.🥰

@depglass Who is this "everyone" you speak of? I don't know anyone doing this. If you mean "celebs" I pay no attention and couldn't care less.

It could be that people have stopped highlighting or bleaching their hair now and letting it grow back to their natural dark color. Inflation takes it's toll even at the salons.

@Trinity11 I don't remember that one, but I remember "True blondes have more fun" and "Does she or doesn't she? Ony her hairdresser knows." Both were ads for blonde haircolor. As a result, I wanted to be blonde, and I cried when my mother took me to the hairdresser to get another ugly pixie cut and I thought I was going to get colored blonde.

I think a lot of pixie cuts are cute now, but not the one I had. I have a cowlick in the front and my bangs just curled around it and not in a good way. I have spent my entire life trying to cover that cowlick.

Also, lucky for me I discovered red hair. I don't think blonde would really work with my complexion. My father hated it though. He would talk about my beautiful brown hair and I would tell him it's not brown anymore, it's gray.

BTW, I haven't noticed aany hair color trends except the gray one that's been popular for awhile.

I think it is just a trend like when people were bleaching their hair silver white grey.... looks bad on everyone and so fake... but just a fashion trend.

I haven't noticed many people with black hair. I have seen light hair with dark roots, which in some cases can look good. Another nice look, if done professionally, is ombre, dark and light mixed.

If a trend, the black hair will eventually leave and something else will take its place. Right now everything about the show, Wednesday, is hot. Give it awhile and even that will be replaced. Tik Tok seems to have a short attention span.

The Q model (name starts with a P) went from blonde to gray about a year ago and I think it is not her best look. Blonde hair looked so much better with her skin tone.

I don't watch any news channels or talk shows .... so I don't know what celebs are doing.

Just thinking about my friends (we're all "older.")

In the last five or six years .... all of us stopped coloring our hair and have gone natural.
