Tova eau de parfum, then and now

Qvc is offering the perfume and body creme for $69. Not really in my budget at the moment- but I'm curious-Back in the nineties I loved this fragrance. Haven't smelled it since. Have you? Does it still smell just as good or different now?

I never wore Tova but my sister wore it back in the early 2000's and she always smelled sooooo goood. Not sure how it smells now because she has switched to other scents since then. That's what makes me reluctant to buy the Philosophy TSV. It's a fantastic bargain and I used to love Amazing Grace many years ago, but I have read too many negative reviews on the current formula. There's a reason perfume houses like Chanel continue to command top dollar for their fragrances...they always to me, smell beautifully consistent.

I have Amazing Grace and Pure Grace. They smell just as good and the same as they always have. If I had extra funds I might be tempted on the tsv. Don't let the negative reviews put you off. Every time a fragrance line gets sold to a different corporation, women go berserk claiming that the product has changed for the worse. I have not found that to be true with the Graces. Still perfect.

There were a lot of old threads about the current Tova Signature fragrance not smelling like the original. It seems some of the original ingredients are no longer used/available and it is different. I wore the original Tova fragrance for many years (I ordered it from her salon in CA) long before she came to QVC.

It is different to me, but I still wear it sometimes even though it isn't quite like the 90's version.

I have a more recent version of Tova. It is okay, nice....but doesn't last as long as the vintage, nor does it have it's original distinction. Vintage Tova was truly one of a kind!

I still have some of the vintage and some of the body creme. The fragrance never changes or smells funky. It's exactly the same as when I wore it. But I only wear it for VERY special occasions. I'm very stingy with it. And I have tried all the versions that were put out, some actually say 'the original'. Wrong. they do not smell the same-I don't care what they say.

@Judaline @Harpa @Jk9 SO TRUE! The original, which I ordered the very first time Tova and Ernie appeared on QVC, and until the company was sold to QVC (when it changed) was MAGNIFICENT, SPECIAL and definitely ONE OF A KIND. I know a lot of the ingredients are now prohibited from being used across the board for all fragrances, which has altered the scents.

I remember people always stopping me to ask what I had on, whether in the supermarket, an event, or sometimes just passing me in the street. I was once at a sales meeting and had to pass a number of men to get to my seat. EVERY ONE OF THEM asked me what I was wearing because they wanted to purchase for their girlfriends or wives. The fragrance no longer has that magnitism that it once did. It's still lovely, but not special.

@nyc1, @Judaline , et.al., Remember when we all put up a fuss about the change? They really didn't have to lie or cover anything up! We sure knew better! It was changed!

Me, too, @nyc1 ! I've never received compliments (before or since) like I did when I wore Vintage!

Many of them do change, however. I have purchased some (I think they must be manufacturing them far easterly) that have changed. I don't think Amazing Grace has changed. If so, not significantly. I buy mine locally as I don't like the shipping charges and I am not reeled in by the gimmicky packaged deals. I cannot speak to the other Philosophy fragrances since I only like Amazing Grace. I have asthma so have to be careful what I wear. I shower in Amazing Grace so can only speak to the shower fragrance. I use Chanel No5 lotion (only) on the backs of my knees and my waist as that is not in an area near my nose and I use it sparingly. Others can smell it or smell that I smell good but I don't have to smell it.

I did end up ordering the tsv. Not for the cute package, as that is meaningless to me. Two of the items will be Christmas gifts for my cousin who loves Amazing Grace as much as I do. So this configuration turns out to be an excellent value. Especially since I'm on my last drop of AG perfume

I don't know about the "new" Tova Signature because I never tried it. But I can tell you something about the original: it lasts!

About a year ago, I found a bottle of Tova Signature lotion wedged between two levels of our linen closet, in the back. The lotion is all I'd ever ordered, and I couldn't believe my luck because I'd forgotten about that extra bottle. (It's that while soft plastic material). I like lotions because I prefer to apply the fragrance as you would a sachet--just a dab here and there. It still smells delectable, and I get compliments. I'd wager I had to have gotten that 25-30 years ago.

I remember Tova on QVC many years ago, when a caller told her about her experience with the fragrance. She told Tova that her little grandson loved the fragrance and told her, "Grandma, you smell beauty!" LOL Tova laughed, and I never forgot that.

It IS such a beautiful fragrance!

I wore the original and loved it.

My sister in law still wears it every day and smells amazing.

I tried it a couple of years ago and I gave her the bottle the next day. Could be my body chemistry, but it smelled awful on me by mid afternoon. It had a stale soap smell on me.

Some 15-18 yrs ago, my husband smelled this divine smelling fragrance on his sister and insisted that I have some so I asked what it was he loved so much and she said "Tova"

So I ordered a bottle from QVC & it WAS divine lol

I loved it so much! Ppl EVERYWHERE asked me what was I wearing that I smelled soooo good..... men and women both.

For the last 3 yrs my DH has gifted me a bottle of the new "signature " fragrance. 😐

I left this morning for errands and hurriedly grabbed a SJP fragrance...then thought " ummm, Tova".
So I layered the SJP with the Tova over it.

I seldom smell my perfumes but I can say that many years ago I would have definitely caught a whiff of the Tova and it was a beautiful scent and it had a comforting quality to it; it drew you in.

Around lunchtime I was at my mom's house and she said " you smell good".

After reading this thread a few minutes ago, I went to the bedroom to smell the top I laid across the bed to see what it was she said smelled soooo good. I wanted to smell the two scents I layered mid morning.

There was nothing. Just nothing. I have no idea what she smelled 🙁
I do have other bottles I like that linger; Vicki Tiel, SJP Lovely, Kate Walsh Boyfriend.
The new "Tova Signature " doesn't leave a lasting signature.
I miss the old version so bad. It was aromatherapy.
What was in the old scent that cannot be used? Or is it too expensive to make??

Years ago, fragrances were made with natural componants like flowers, ambergris and musk. Now they are mostly synthetics

and aldehydes being used to create fragrances.

I am using the current Tova and I did wear it back in the 90's also. For awhile it did change and it didn't last for me at all so I stopped wearing it in the middle 2000's I also have the body wash and lotion. I myself feel the one I am wearing now is very close to the original.

my suspicion is the absolute jasmine in the fragrance became too expensive. I recall Tova saying before her passing it cost her $76000 per pound !!! At the quantities she needed it probably became cost prohibitive.
