@SandGirl I just discovered a couple of years ago that my hair had become wavy. It was always pretty straight but it wasn't until the pandemic when I started air drying sometimes that I realized how much wave I had developed.

That started a long journey of watching videos, reading articles and trying every type of product to see what worked. I have a cabinet full of products that I don't like! Because my hair is fine, a lot of products were either too heavy or made my hair crunchy or stringy, which I hate.

I finally found something that I love. It gives my waves definition but keeps them soft. It is the Bumble and Bumble Surf Styling Leave In. I use it all over except on my roots. For my roots I really like Healthy Sexy Hair Fresh Hair Air Dry Styling Mousse which is a foam so it's not as sticky as a typical mousse but it gives some volume.

If you are lucky enough to have thick hair, you'll probably have a much easier time finding products you like. There are a lot of YouTube videos on curly/wavy hair trying different products. If you have fine hair like me, I'd highly recommend the two products I use.

I wear mine both ways, curly/wavy most often, but if I'm speaking in front of people or being filmed I usually blow it out straight. Doing that is harder for me because I'm not great at it and I don't do it every day.

So I'm a WEN girl.

i use Sexy Curly Hair "Light Control" my hair is long down to bra band - i use a maybe nickle size of it along with a bit of Shea Organics leave in. only the length, not above cheekbone level.

sometimes i mix in John Frieda Surf spray but used alone it makes my hair too crunchy.

air dry or low heat blow dry - scrunching as i go

and for coaxing waves, long layers help a lot, my hair is all one length due to crummy haircut. as soon as i get it long enough i'll have more layers put in.

A perm. Seriously, for my hair, it's the best option. Mine has just enough wave that something must be done with it and I don't want to fight with it on a daily basis. Besides the perm, I mostly avoid sulfates (to save my color), silicones, and drying alcohols. There are alcohols that aren't drying like Cetearyl alcohol. Basically, I follow a modified Curly Girl method.

For styling, I use Tweak'd Chiuri Butter styling cream and then a mixture of Curls Goddess Curls gel and Ouidad Advanced Climate Control gel. The Advanced Climate Control gel is good for frizz especially in our high humidity, but by itself leaves the hair crunchy, so I mix it with another gel.

I let it air dry whatever time I have even if it's just while I apply makeup. Then I spray a little Moremo Hair Lifter for a little lift at the crown before drying with a diffuser. I like a bowl-shaped diffuser that has posts inside the bowl and holes at the ends of the posts. I place the posts against my scalp and then push upwards for lift and the air coming out dries my hair at the scalp which is the most important for me. My favorite is the Black Orchid diffuser.

I thought it made me look more youthful.

* After washing w/ a "2-in-1 shampoo/cond't"

* I applied "Johnson's Baby "No more tangles," creme or spray,

* barely combed with wide tooth comb,

* barely, quick 10 second rinse w/ water,

* tousled the hair to bring back the curls, (dont comb again)

* then gently squeezed some of Carol's Daughter Leave-in "Hair Milk" in my hand.. dabbed it thru my hair, scrunching.. no more combing.. (otherwise, it combs the curls out)

* and Id often put up the sides & back in a Banana Combs (below) with the curls tousling down from the top, down the back of my head

* Was soo cute, youthful, freeing, bouncy, nice..

BTW!! This ALSO makes your hair SUPER SHINY!!! (give height, & face looks longer, taking attention away from face wrinkles!)

(FYI, "Carol's Daughter" is found at the Ethnic Hair section of stores, and this particular ""Leave-in Hair Milk" specific product isnt always available in all stores. Hopefully, it continues to be made.)

Gosh. thinking about this.. maybe I should go back to this hairdo again,

.. (altho the perm broke off A LOT of my brittle, baby fine, hair.

I could feel the damaged stubble)

But it was swank, freeing & felt & looked youthfully cute. Easy to care for, off my face and neck (cause I get HOT FAST)

And to bring back the curls, between days, just sprinkle/tousle with water again, even with the garden hose, when I'm watering my outdoor plants, and Im ALWAYS, ALWAYS too hot!!

It was so freeing, stayed cleaner, longer, * was perfect for my swimming, which Im trying to get back to.

@SandGirl

GOOD LUCK!..

I have had naturally curly hair my entire life. Believe me I have used everything on the planet. After total hair loss to breast cancer treatment 7 years ago my hair came back exactly the same but not as thick. What works best for me is alternating between Wen and Tweak'd. Both lines work very nicely for my curls but I admit I have leaned more toward Tweak'd in the last year or two. Once in awhile I throw in a few shampoos of Beekman goat milk too. When it's Wen conditioning cleanser, it's with Wen mousse and styling cream. When it's Tweak'd shampoo and conitioner, I use the Chiuri styling cream. Great products, IMO.

I agree with Linda Sal! I have tried so many products and keep coming back to the Wen and Tweak'd products for my natural wavy/curly hair because my best hair days seem to be the days I use these products. There are some really good video's on youtube about wavy/curly hair which really helped me a lot. I did get sucked into trying a bunch of products but the main thing to remember (in my opinion) is less is more. A good curl cream from Wen and/or Tweak'd and a good mousse (Wen) is all I ever need. My routine is as follows: After I shower and while my hair is still dripping wet I spray Tweak'd restorative in my hands and run it all through my hair. I brush my hair to evenly distribute the product and then add my curl cream and start scrunching and kind of messing up my hair. I sort of bend over and let my hair hang and start adding my mousse and scrunch scrunch scrunch some more. I put my hair in a t-shirt, get out of the shower and put on my makeup. When I take my hair out of the t-shirt to diffuse I might need to place a few waves, curls out of my eyes but that is it. I am ready to diffuse. It is liberating!! And my hair has never been this healthy!!

My wavy hair is short with lots of layers...I wear it tousled. I use mostly Tresemme products (shampoo, conditioner, gel) with the addition of Tweak'd revitalizing spray.

When I wash my hair, I use a good dollop of gel and about 8 sprays of the Tweak'd mixed together in my hands, and run it through my hair. I then comb thru with a wide-toolth comb and let air-dry.

Once dry, I bend over and thoroughly tousle my hair with my fingers, then straigten up, and finger-comb into place. I rarely use hairspray anymore, but recently tried Bed Head Headrush shine spray. Spritz a little of that and I'm done! This spray really enhances my waves and adds shine.

Second and third-day hair, I just run wet hands through it, let dry and do the tousle routine.

Getting a short cut last fall was the best thing I've ever done for my hair!
