Milia! I get an occasional one here or there, on my face, but I've just discovered a "colony of milia" on the inner, hair edge, near arch of my eyebrow, somewhat into the hair. I suspected just one, occasionally, same place, edge of eyebrow, & removed it Past occasional milia, elsewhere, never came back.

Apparently, THIS ONE has been reoccurring, but only today, discovered it was a *colony.* WTH?? Did the original eyebrow one invite the family over???

How do you get rid of them, once & for all?

@TwinkleBell

Alcohol is a skin irritant which means it damages the outer most layer of the skin. When that happens the skin responds by over-producing the substances which make up the outer layer mantle and sometimes during that process there are dead skin cells that get trapped in a cyst-like ball attached to the outer layer of skin...that's milia.

Normally most dead skin cells slough off without notice. But combined with trauma (using irritants), applying rich emollients and lack of exfoliation will cause milia to become visible to the naked eye.

On two separate occasions I had a large milia show up on my upper lash line right in the middle of all places. It was large enough to part my lashes so that made it even more visible. Ended up going to my derm to get it removed and that temporarily caused a large bald spot on my upper lash line....looked terrible. My derm told me that milia could have been caused by my waxy, waterproof pencil liners which applied directly into my lash line. Derm said those types of products are very difficult to cleanse away completely so she recommended to stop using waxy-type liners and go with something easily washable. I did and now I have not had a milia there since then.

Milia on your lash line! and that large! thank goodness you had the presence of mind to go to the Derm rather than trying to deal with it yrself. (That's something I have to make sure "what I can deal with myself," & "what I SLD NOT deal with myself. Altho Im pretty sure with an eyelash milia, Id go to the Derm also)

I already excised several from this one "eyebrow" spot, shockingly... and now.. another 2 more! It's a veritable "Thanksgiving dinner" of milia family members!!

Then I realized, after repeatedly excising the milia from this one eyebrow spot, i use "alcohol" afterwards to clean it up! Thus making the problem worse, ..right... and perpetuating the same problem.. NO WONDER!! "the milia family members there were partying!"

I have "100% Pure Tea Tree Oil," If you agree, ... I'll use that, "post milia excision," instead. (it's Antifungal, Antibacterial, Antiseptic. no alcohol --- ALWAYS have it in my Medicine Cabinet!!) . & try that after excising the last of these stubborn milia goobers!

..Plus I'll check for the ingredients of my eyebrow pencil! (altho I've been using the same brand for years..but that's not to say they havent changed the ingredients)!

@JeanLouiseFinch And based on your TERRIFIC instructions (above), I'm going to revisit my usual "skin care routine," & adjust it accordingly. Sometimes my skincare regimen can become so rote, that I need to re evaluate it from time to time & adjust. @JeanLouiseFinch I'll use your great instructions!

Thank you both again! Invaluable advice! And thank you for yr time!

Anything waxy or occulive like very emollient creams or Vaseline under or around eyes can cause problems.

A shadow under the eyes or non-waxy pencil set with a finely milled powder is best.

A great, separate eye makeup remover is key instead of relying on your facial cleanser to remove all eye makeup. I'm sure you know all this.

Sorry you had this issue.

@TwinkleBell wrote:

@SilleeMee wow...

I know how frustrating they can be, @TwinkleBell. I developed milia and congested pores a number of years ago from some Philosophy products. At the time, my skin was oilier in the t-zone so I was using Thayer's witch hazel toner and some other things to take care of oil. It did just the opposite. I got off the Philosophy and changed my routine. I started using a fantastic Korean oil cleanser. A little later I added a silicone sonic cleansing tool and that combo helped with pores. Remember, drying products with cause more oil production and oil will cut oil, when it comes to cleansing.

One thing I wasn't clear on, @TwinkleBell, is to only use your cleansing tool with your actual cleanser, not during the makeup removal/pre cleanse stage with the cleansing balm or oil. The oil and the silicone are not friends and after some time, the little nubs will start coming off your tool and/or the surface will start to degrade. If you decide to try the oil cleanser with the tool, make sure you wash it well with soap afterwards, to get all the oil off.
