Bring back the makeup artists SAP

Covid still rules, but if there is anyone I would attempt to get back into the studios, it is the makeup artist(s). What transmits through the TV screen is not what the hosts are seeing in their own mirrors. Self tans are very uneven, so are some foundations. Highlighters are showing as bright white blotches. Blushes are dark blotches. Eye makeup is also a miss at times. I'm not naming any particular host, because it is happening with a lot of them. I'm referring mainly to the makeup hours with the intense closeups.

Sadly I have to agree that some of the hosts are looking pretty awful. They need the make up people and the manicurists back for sure. Even the lighting people need some schooling.........I would not look very nice under all those lights either but I would make every attempt possible to look my best. JMO.

Some of them seem way overly made up.....especially in the "rosy" cheek area.

Whether you have make up artists on set or not, the Hosts who keep applying the products they are selling on air over top of their initial makeup won't stop.

For me, I prefer when they have the models bare faced then apply the makeup during the airing . Usually, there is adequate time to apply the makeup to a bare face on air of many women with different complexions If the Hosts would just stop talking and allow the let the makeup product Rep demonstrate the makeup application.

There have been shows which made one think that QVC was going to demonstrate the makeup application of a product , however the Hosts end up hijacking the demonstration with their own 2 cents and their face is up in the camera reapplying makeup.

But, the makeup rep needs to be in-studio too. Trying to demo makeup on themselves in a Zoom screen that is then being recorded with the TV camera is awful. On top of that, their lighting usually isn't very good to start with. You can't tell anything about their product that way. And those closeups of the hosts faces? We don't need that.

All points in replies here are so valid. The hosts, models and vendors are over compensating w/ tans and makeup thinking they HAVE to for the cameras.

What beats me is they've had hair/makeup done professionally in studio for years. Did they learn nothing from watching the MUA?

@Shanus - I agree about not learning anything from the MUAs that were there before. When a host doesn't wear false eyelashes and then puts on so much mascara her lashes/eyes look downright scary, that does not help sell a mascara product. The models who applied the mascara looked so much better because they used the same amount a woman would normally apply. Let the models and reps do their job.

Agree on all points! The hosts need the services of a professional make-up artist. Sometimes I'm watching and have no words to describe the make-up jobs I see. I ask myself, "does she honestly think she looks good with that war paint on"?

Some of them look better. I remember when Katrina Szish used to have electric green and blue eyeshadow all the time. I thought it looked hideous. That's when they still had makeup artists. I think the people in charge determined they could save that expense by having the hosts do their own makeup like normal people.

I understand your point but you forgot one thing and that is will the host be comfortable with someone that close in their space. We always say things when we are not that person,I think before we make statements remember the person involved in the situation. They are lifting mask mandates but I am not that comfortable being around a lot of people at this time. It has to do with people who I don't know, and where have they been. Some people refused to take the vaccines so I am being causious of them.

@ECBG I agree so have I. One thing I would like to see is get the older Hosts away from the make up. JT is the worst. When she puts on a product and I get close to my TV, there is no way I will buy it. Please use Hosts with great skin like Sandra. I know everyone don't have great skin, but it defintly makes me not buy when I see that.

I've been watching QVC before it was QVC, I'm ashamed to admit. Started very young. I've always wanted to believe hosts when they wax elegant about a product......even if I knew better. Last night was the final straw for me. How Shawn could stare at the camera after she applied the mascara and wax eloquent about a product that is literally globbed onto her eyelashes?? Honestly, she could have used a lash comb....but no! She raved and raved how she wasn't going to come out lashless, but now she's so happy with the results. No friend of hers would have let her be seen in public with how she looked.....without cleaning her up. I honestly felt it was an insult to all of us viewers. I will never believe a word she says again.

I agree that the professionals should be brought back but personally I think QVC’s reasoning is probably less about covid and more about money. A lot of businesses saw what they could cut and aren’t willing to give up that profit margin.

I can’t stand watching the vendors from home but, again, QVC probably doesn’t see the need to return to flying in vendors and putting them up in hotels if they don’t have to.

Having dealt with " stage makeup" for many daughters and granddaughters, I know there is a big difference between what you need while performing on-stage and what you need when on hd tv cameras with closeups.....not the same at all.

@JudyL ITA. I just don't get the "over-mascared" before and after falsies + the over drawn, dark winged liner + dark, wide liner under the eyes. My 13 yr. old GD knows better than that. And on the older hosts? OMG!

I would believe that the extra caution the artists would need to take ensure complete and entire sanitzation of brushes, makeup cross contamination, sponges or whatever is not worth the time or financial investment. I know people are going to say they had to be cautious pre-covid but this has set a new bar of actually what sanitary is. Remember how everyone gad to learn how to wash their hands?

I stated a year or so ago how I thought the ladies all looked better and natural without the false eyelashes, don't tell me it is "just your mascara"; heavy handed contour, etc. They looked normal next-door types. These people are just working as salespeople on tv, not in a Hollywood movie or TV program. Let them tone it down, I don't need them to think they need to somehow impress me with makeup. And I definitely would not want anyone in my face as a model, sorry.
