I think (or hope) I'm more (healthfully) envious, vs distaining, of ppl's choice for Cosmetic Surgery, & Cosm Procedures.

"Envious," predominantly, because I lack the "courage" (& "funds") myself, to take that kind of (elective) plunge.

. . But I admit, I'm happy for others, if it works for them, & sad if it ends up some other person's nightmare, or disappointment.

So ... has society weaned off of distaining, or being critical, of another's choice for such surgical, or professional procedural cosmetic changes for themselves?

. . . Moved beyond that?

I'm not sure why people would be critical of how another person spends their money, be it on cosmetic procedures, dining out, cars, or anything else.

As for myself, two + years after moving to a new part of the country, I finally had my first appt with a dermatologist recently, for a whole body skin check.

I asked about a cosmetics consult (probably for laser and fillers ). There is a two month wait! I took the next available appt. Obviously, lots of ladies are booking these consults.

I think if someone is dissatisfied with their appearance enough to go under the knife, then it is their prerogative. Just don't try and sell me some wrinkle cream and tell me you look that way because of the cream. 😉

I give credit to someone who reveals that they have had some work done instead of pretending their 'look' is natural. To me there's nothing attractive about 'looking good' and saying it's good genes when I know it's something they've done to look that way.

The best kind of procedures are the ones you really don't notice. They're the kind where it makes someone look like a better version of themselves, not different-looking but naturally more fresh-looking.

I don't care what others do, just don't lie about it. From time to time I think about skin reduction surgery but I know I won't go through with it. At my age, I waffle back and forth about the expense and question its worth this late in life. I don't wear shorts or short sleeves. DH is the only one who sees the hidden parts.

I've seen many procedures up close and personal. Some women admit it and others at 65 and look much younger who deny having anything done.

When applying makeup, there are faint scars in front and behind the ears, a slight "line" in the fold of the lid or a crease an inch back under the hairline...dead giveaway of a brow lift.

Professionally, I cannot confront anyone, but I do think it's ridiculous not to admit having something done to your face/neck and then think I'm not seeing the slight scarring.

There's definitely nothing wrong with turning back the clock, using lazers to remove sun damage, hooded lids repaired, etc. Just don't tell me when I'm a 1/4" from your face that you have a great cream to share with me, your mom or grandmother had great genes and that's why you look 10 -15 years younger than your age and sometimes (if not a good surgeon) so pulled back and shiny like they've been in a wind tunnel.

There certainly is nothing wrong with choosing these options. It is your face and your money. Just be honest about it with someone who's seen my share of good and bad surgeries.

Lazers can leave scaring because they weren't done by someone with enough experience or an eyelid lift done by a derm with no knowledge like that of a board certified facial plastic surgeon. One slip of the scapel and an artery can be cut causing bleeding under the skin or irreparable damage to the face...the same with cutting a small muscle or nerve that leaves the face lopsided or one slightly sagging brow.

If anyone decides to have a procedure, please go to a facial plastic surgeon and pay the extra money. Med Spa technicians take a 6 week course doing deep lazer resurfacing. They'd never touch my face. Even derms are sometimes not specially trained in the nerve/muscle/artery patterns beneath the skin and are best suited for surface issues. They never come near me with a knife.

Choose your procedure and surgeon carefully after interviewing and consulting with several docs. Ask for a booklet with photos of before and afters to see if that's your esthetic or the women look overdone and unnatural.

Perhaps my best advice is there's nothing wrong with the natural aging process. We have so much more to offer than an "ironed" face or spotless skin. Stand proud and know we're all beautiful in our own way...and yes from the inside.
