I haven't used one in years, but I'd like to get one...a gentle one that doesn't pull out my lashes. Any recommendations?

Your question made me laugh! i'm just grateful to have lashes at all and wouldn't dream of torturing them with curlers or mascara.

But I think those same curlers you bought at the drugstore way back when are still being sold.

I think the Shiseido is pretty popular. Maybe I'm missing something, but they all look pretty much the same to me, more or less. The one I'm currently using was super inexpensive at TJMAXX or Marshall's. It has a rainbow finish that attracted me. I think it cost me $5 bucks.

@SurferWife - I used to use Shu Uemura, then switched to Shiseido. Someone recently recommended Surratt and said it's very gentle. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to. That's another of my HG products. My lashes are short and straight. The ONE mascara that kept the curl and worked so well for me was Mally's old waterproof mascara in the pink tube. Of course it's no longer made.

Honestly using all curlers will create pull and pressure on your lashes. I've tried them all from Chanel, Kevin Acoin, Shiseido, Shu Uemura, Revlon, Maybelline, Kaasage ... and the list goes on. I now use this:

Absolutely Shu Uemura

There was a recent thread about their eyelash curlers and many positive comments.

I switched to it years ago when LR first introduced it on Q. Now I order direct.

I have tried them all and find this to be the best for me. Very gentle and I never lose lashes.

Con: They only give you 2 more rubber strips and do NOT sell them separately.

After those are used, they want you to buy a new curler.

They aren't that expensive and they do have discounts all the time.

Shu Uemura for me.

I used Maybelline from about age 17 to age 55. Tried some others. Shu looks so much like the Maybelline I couldn't believe it would be different. But I've never had to replace my original - bought it about 15 years ago - or even the rubber strips. Wonderful product. It does not damage or pull out my lashes. It takes less time to curl my lashes which may be why it doesn't damage them.

I just use the old standby, Maybelline, eyelash curler. I purchased one on Amazon, and it was awful. Now the seller/vendor is trying to bribe me with a gift card to take down my review of it. So many people were hurt by it, and many women showed pictures of their eyelashes being ripped out by a poor quality eyelash curler. I've never had any problems with Maybelline.

I also use the Shu Uemera - hope I spelled that right. Love it. Never lose any lashes and have had it for years.

Edited to add: Forgot to mention that I have hooded eyes and it doesn't pinch. Very important!

@SurferWife I've used eyelash curlers ever since I was a teen.

Used to be a consistent Maybelline user, until they became impossible to find, not sure they make them anymore; I haven't looked lately. Used to last many, many uses and years, and you could get refills for the little rubber piece. No more, to my knowledge.

Tried other brands, some expensive ones promoted in "best of" lists in magazines (not good, a few broke soon too)... as I searched to replace my favorite Maybelline one.

I finally found a basic, silver with black rubber piece, Revlon one. I've had the one I use now for several years already, still going strong...I think it came with a few refills, instead of them selling them separately, like Maybelline used to do. CVS had them, probably any store, like Target, Walmart even Ulta, Sephora, Amazon (just guessing but it's pretty common.)

Note...I bought mine at least 4 years ago, and these days brands change things all the time, but I think this basic one still exists.

I find with eyelash curlers...the basic one, without lots of gimmicky shapes etc. work best. The Revlon one mimics my old tried and true Maybelline one. Good luck!

I too was a Maybelline user for years, from my teens also.

I thought I tried a Shu Uemura one, years ago, and didn't like it, but can't exactly say; I know I tried some well promoted trendy brands everyone loved but didn't work for me.

I'll have to look into it again, as I always wished I could find one as good as that old Maybelline one. I do like the Revlon one I've been using, and the rubber strips they use actually last longer (like forever) where the Maybelline needed replacing (it would split) but I'm sure rubber/plastic products have evolved since then.

I don't use one daily anymore...some days I like my lashes without it so I give them a rest. Anyway, your comment interested me, as I had used Maybelline too. Tks for info.

Amy B you're very welcome. I don't use mine every day either by the way but every other. I don't remove my makeup at night and the next day my lashes are still curled.

I do remember the Shu one LR presented yrs ago and did get one...it worked well as I recall but became difficult to find. So I then used Shiseido but then tried Tarte and I like this one even better. I do wait for sales or use my $3.50 off at Ulta to buy one.

Next time I need a new one due to the pads not being in good shape (they give you one) I will go back try the drugstore brands mentioned here. I have used those many yrs back and remember them working but I think they also were pinching me LOL!

My favorite is Tweezerman. I buy them at Marshall's or TJMaxx. Some come with extra curler pad. The down side is they don't always have them so I pick one up whether I need it or not.

The Shiseido refills fit perfectly into the Shu Uemura curler. You can buy two (2) refills for 6 bucks at your local Shiseido counter.

@Knit-Chick I warm my cheapie up with my blow dryer, just a few seconds, then touch it to my lip to check the temp.

I've tried many over the years, but not Shu or Shiseido. Was even using two different ones at one point because of pinching (one for the left and a different for the right). Currently am using a black one with pink pad from amazon. I like it and it seems less likely to pinch as many others. It has been working quite well for me, and I have no plans to try anything different anytime soon. With Jane Iredale primer to hold the curl, I'm very happy with it.

I do the same! Warm my eyelash curler for bit with my dryer. I have very straight lashes that almost point downwards. Helps the curl to last a bit longer.

I like the Shu Eumura curler and the Shiseido curler. They seem to fit my eye shape better than my old Maybelline curler.
