Arnica Gel for Dark Circles and Under Eye Puffiness?

I've never heard this before, that Arnica is effective for this common beauty concern. I know it works for bruising and pain but I just read it helps eliminate dark circles by reducing blood vessels and it helps puffiness because it's an anti-inflammatory. Has anyone here tried it for this purpose, does it work?

Whoa! Well this may prove promissing. Will be watching for comments to see if it works. Wonder if some beauty company has put it in their eye cream?

Oh that's interesting @JeanLouiseFinch. I can't imagine how it can improve the appearance of skin all over the body. Hmmm.

From what it supposedly does for injuries it sounds like it could be effective. IDK, I hope someone chimes in that's tried it.

Arnica does speed the healing of bruises. But I don't think dark undereye stems from that. Actually, this is a staple in my "medicine" cabinet. (Yes, @decaf. It is also good for sore/over worked muscles.)

Look to Haloxyl to treat dark under eye circles. Caffeine should help to take down any puffiness.

@monicakm I've tried different eye creams with caffeine and none of them helped my puffiness. Can't remember when I really noticed them - its been years - so I'm probably stuck with them. Think its mostly genetic and mine could be from the allergies I have year round, just like my dark bluish areas under my eyes.

I use Retin-A under my eyes. That thickens the skin so darkness is reduced and loose skin is firmed so puffiness is also reduced. I also use a dermaroller on my under-eye areas and that really helps with firming up the skin there.

@Harpa I tried an eye cream with Haloxyl quite a few years back and unfortunately it didn't work well for me.

While reading today, Arnica and also Vitamin K came up. They said dark under eye circles are usually caused by dilated blood vessels and both of these ingredients can be helpful because they restrict the blood vessels. Aging also causes thinner under eye skin which plays into the darkness being more evident.

I was just curious if anyone had tried Arnica and what they thought.

@SilleeMee My under eye dark circles must be really bad, Retin A from ADC just makes the skin there drier but does nothing to help my dark circles

@decaf I have dark under my eyes too. For me, that is definitely genetic. My mom had that but dad didn't. Mine aren't so bad. Doesn't bother me at all.

For puffiness, I use Prep-H. It really works and shrinks the bags. It's an old modeling trick. I don't use it everyday, just if I'm going somewhere when I want to look extra special. A VERY thin layer is all you need. I don't even smell it. Less is more.

Edited to add: If you own a Dermawand...that will help, too (if you don't mind the "zap").

@decaf I wonder how much to use and how long it takes to be effective. I put some on the "pillows" under my eyes and rubbed it in and let it dry. They are still there laughing at me.

Sounds like you've tried many things to try and get rid of your dark circles. If all else fails then maybe a visit to a derm might be something else to try. Special peels and/or laser treatments are done specifically for that area and they are usually long-lasting.

Is puffiness and bags considered the same thing? I was thinking when a plastic surgeon works on bags, they actually remove some fat. Maybe it's a combination of fat and water retention? I don't really hae either problem, but sometimes I do get that line of demarcation under the eye for puffiness that I use a little concealer on.

@grandma2pkmh I didn't see anything about how much to use or how long it takes to work but if you notice any change promise me you'll let me know right away!!

I'm trying this tonight and for the next week or two, I've got nothing to lose.

@Queen of shop Maybe you have an older tube of Prep H. In recent years the FDA made them take that ingredient out of the formula so it no longer works on puffy under eyes. There were a lot of unhappy people when they made that change. If you have some of the old formula, you should guard it with your life!

@Queen of shop The ingredient is known as Bio-dyne. I just checked, they last used it in the US in 1995, wow, time has flown. Canada still allows it in their Prep H and people here can buy it off Ebay from Canadian sellers but it's a bit pricey.
