What would you do to style hair this way? Blow dryer-round brush?

I think in order to style your hair this way the cut is critical...so an excellent stylist is essential...then, as you suggest, the blow dry using a round brush. It helps to have thick hair in excellent condition as evidenced by the photo. It looks great on her.

I have this hair - following the methd my styist uses, I dry the underside of the hair at the roots first. I do this by using my hands to lift my hair while I dry or by bending over so my hair hangs down to get about 50% of the "wetness" out of the air. Don't spend more than a minute or two doing this because you don't want to totally dry your hair. Then i use the round brush to finish. My hair is thick and i have a good layered cut and get good results without using any styling products like mousse for everyday. That's what works for me.

It's my cut, too, thanks to the stylist I saw this past week -- and me, since I needed to trim more for the top layers. My hair, too, is on the thick side. I'll probably be clipping the one side back, though.

I have a similar style...mine is just a bit longer and brunette.

I agree with the posters that say the cut is important to the style and when drying start from underneath. I used to use a good blow dryer & round brush.

However for the last few months I have been using a dryer that is in the shape of a large round (really oval shaped ) brush. I got the Revlon one-step volumizer hair dryer & hot air brush.

I get amazing results using it! My hair has been cut in a great style which falls into place and the dryer/brush gives me very smooth results which I love.

Definitely the right cut is needed along with the right styling products, plus a blow dryer and the right size round brush. It's also very important to have the right amount of thickness to your hair for it to look right. There have been numerous times I'd ask my daughter about doing a certain style on me (including one like this) and she would say "you don't have enough hair".

@SilleeMee I agree. Unfortunately with photos...you have to begin with good hair. My hair is too thin and no matter how much I blow dry or use round brushes, it will never have this look. Same with fashion pictures, thinking you will look the same in that chic dress that is displayed on the size 0 model will never have the same effect on a size 16.

I have this cut. My hair is fine and color treated. As someone else mentioned, I have an excellent stylist! She cuts texture into the layers somehow.

I do use a round brush to dry it. As someone else mentioned, dry it underneath first but not all the way, then round brush. I round brush the back all under. The sides I round brush back and some flip up on the ends. The crown I round brush, too, for volume.

The other thing I do is -- I only wash my a couple times a week. The gritty-ness of not washing, makes it piecy. And on those days I spray dry shampoo at my roots and brush through my hair for volume and refresh. Then velcro rollers on dry hair --especially at the crown and my bangs. I sometimes use wax or fiber spray.

Edited to add:

I use thse tools and products:

-Drugstore hair dryer

-1 inch ceramic round brush (from Ulta)

-Mousse (the brand is some generic beauty supply store brand my salon sells. It's called "Fashion Styling Mousse")

-R+Co Dallas Thickening spray (wet hair)

-AG Texture spray (dry hair)

-Baliste Volumizing Dry Shampoo

-1 inch velcro roller from the drugstore (they might be Goody brand)

- Tweak'd 2XL Fiber Spray

I have a very similar style. I also have fine hair. I have found that using volumizing products such as Tweak'd shampoo help. Color also adds volume. Finally, after styling, I spray with a volumizing spray and scrunch it some. If I keep it cut and don't let it grow to where the length weighs it down, I'm good.

OMG @JeanLouiseFinch, that sounds just like me and my stylist. I think people with hair like ours never make it to the style magazines. I'm really good at faking it though. My hair stylist had to take a break for a medical procedure and she handed me over to another stylist who I had been singing with in the choir for years. He started working on it and with surprise in his voice said "Girl, you've got baby fine hair." I just laughed and said "I know. I hide it well, don't I?"

I would use a leave in conditioner and a styling mouse. Don't brush, everything is done by fingers.
