I have type 1 rosacea and I can tolerate a milder vitamin c and my skin looks healthier using it. I can use a retinol on my cheeks where I have it and use retin A everywhere else. You definitely have to go slow and it may be that your skin doesn't tolerate it and that's okay too.

I watched one of James Welsh videos where he mentioned makeup products he no longer uses.

Two of them: retinol and vitamin C serums. He said that retinol tended to aggravate his rosacea and that vitamin C wasn't necessary for his whole facial routine.

I've occasionally had problems with rosacea, so it makes me feel better that I don't use retinol. I don't want to take a chance on irritation. Also I wasn't sure about vitamin C in facial products; according to James Welsh,it might help, but isn't absolutely necessary. After watching this, I feel OK that I'm not so much into these products. What I already use is working fine.

Retinoids, including retinol, have a tendency to increase the skin's vascularity meaning it makes blood vessels/capillaries more visible through the skin. The exact reason why that happens is not completely understood. Vitamin C can disrupt the skin's natural state of normal bacteria, keeping it healthy and free from infections, so if rosacea is an issue then VC can cause flare ups.

I use tretinoin, have been for many years. I have some serious redness issues...broken caps and red dots mostly on my cheeks. They are caused from a medical condition I have, scleroderma. But I honestly can't say whether or not the tret makes them more visible. Even if it did I wouldn't stop using the tret....are you kidding...lol!! I can always make a trip to my derm and laser some of the redness away.

I have a bit of Rosacea, fortunately it falls along cheek bones right where I would wear blush, if I wore blush, which I don’t because I have a bit of rosacea. 😊?

Use tretinoin and Vit. C - no problem. Apply tretinoin, avoiding the rosacea spots. Never a problem with increased inflammation.

Love these two products! Using isomers Vit C - it’s excellent.

My derm., and another derm. I checked with - absolutely told me --- No retionoil products whatsoever--- because it would be bad for my rosacea and sensitve skin! I was tempted to try it anyway because I had read that others here use it, but reading this makes me even more glad I didn't use it! I have enough issues with my skin.
