Curling Iron Challenged

I bought a "Forever Your Curl" curing iron on HSN and I have yet to master getting a curl in my hair. They make it look so easy. Clamp, wrap, pull through like curling ribbon.

Watched the video and I get it, but my hair comes out barely curled. Further, even though it is freshly cut, the hair seems to "catch" on the iron. So sliding it out as directed becomes a challenge.

Today I did a few passes with my "Spin Brush" and then got out the curling iron. The curl is just barely noticeable. Getting to the back of my head is another problem. Yikes!

Let me add I have naturally curly hair, but for a variety of reasons, just letting it air dry and fluffing it is not a good look. Used to be beautiful, but age, thinning hair and changing curl pattern turned it into a bird's nest.

My hair is shoulder length, layered, colored and fine.

I use some spray in thermal product and it certainly smooths my hair, but that's about it.

Any thoughts from you curling experts?

You know, I was reading the reviews and a lot of people said it was hard to get a curl with this tool and were disappointed in the results, so it might not be you, it could be the design. I'm terrible using those things in general, I can get one side, but the other just looks horrrible!

Temperature control...........Have you adjusted to a higher temperature?

I've had the setting too low and got nothing too.

I'll try that next since I do tend to get panicked if I see smoke when using a hair tool

Since my hair is fine and color treated I tended to keep the setting low.

The hair catching as I pull through is the most annoying. Maybe my hair is just curl resistant!

My hair also fine and color treated - but you need higher setting. Adjust temp a notch up at a time until you get more curl.

Mine short - so can never understand how a person can do the back with longer locks. Your arm can reach just so far down your back - or will put your shoulder out of join! LOL

I never mastered the art of curling iron facility. I gave up years ago and switched to a curling brush. The barrel size is available in a variety of widths and it's easy to use. It does the job.

I have the Conair "Spin Brush" with a rotating head that I have used for many years.

However, with curly hair, it leaves the hair "cuticle" very kinky looking. If you have curly hair you will know what I mean.

The curling iron smooths the hair so it is shiny.

@Witchy Woman I just read a review where they said you have to load your hair up with hairspray first. ...? Do you use any kind of styling product?

For the back, you have to work like you have a part down the middle, pulling out your sections, first on one side, then on the other.

Anyway, for me, this seems to work best if my hair is not freshly washed. I do not use hair sprays or gels.

In the video, the model was holding down the end of the wand, which is what works for me. Are you also holding that part, and perhaps too tightly so that it is not sliding easily, making some of your hair getting stuck?

I agree about the temp. I use the 390 setting. I do not have fine hair, nor is it naturally curly/wavy.

The Forever Your Curl doesn't operate the same way as a regular curling iron.

Beachwaver. I bought from Q at least 10 yrs ago and it is still going strong. Now sold elsewhere.

I have color treated, thinning, long hair. It is a rotating curling iron. I do use a higher setting. My curls last literally til I wash them out.

I do NOT spray with anything before I curl and don't use hairspray after!

Not a fan of hairspray, but I do use a thermal product. I'll go back and watch the video again.

Maybe I'm missing something and/or I just need practice.

Whatever I use, I'm going to have to practice. I'm not used to fussing with my hair, so this is like learning to walk for me.

I hear ya. I can't work a blow dryer to save my soul! Just make a big fuzzy mess!

A fat round brush? I wanna heave it after 3-4 tries of not getting it in or out of my hair.

So I gave up. I air dry and can fix THAT mess with my Beachwaver.

It does take a little practice...this does Not have a long clasp...but I had no trouble really considering my lack of styling abilities! LOL

I know, those are great, too! The thing about Forever v. Beachwaver is that you do not have to hold each section in place for 10 sec. That was the selling point for me.

Martino says in most of his presentations that if anyone has challenges using his tools to email him and he will do Facetime with you to help you be able to work with it. I will practice a bit more and consider contacting him if I cannot get the hang of it.

I'm not finding fault with the product, but with my own skill at using it. I was never good with any kind of hand-held hair tool because I used to let my curls air dry.

I have never been able to master the curling iron. I have shoulder length layered !hair, very much like Hoda Kotb. I use hot rollers, put them in,put on my makeup get dressed, take them out , brush and done. Works great for me and no aggravation.
