topic Question About Beach Waver Curling Iron in Beauty

Let me start off by saying I'm not very good with hair. My hair hits at just about the top of my shoulders, I guess medium length. I could probably curl the front of my hair but don't really know about the back. My question is, it hard to curl the back of your hair and is it as easy as they make it look in the presentation? I would hate to spend so much money on something that would end up sitting in a drawer.TIA
