Hair Max Laser Cap

I have had significant hair loss over the last 6 weeks with no signs of stopping. Handfuls of hair coming out when I wash, and copius daily shedding. I think I have lost at least 30-40% of my hair. I have seen my primary doctor and all relevant blood tests are normal. I think it is due to the shock on the system from having covid (the loss started 2 months after I had covid). My dermatologist thinks so too. I see her again next week for a follow up now that I have my normal lab results back.

Anyway, it is hard to wait for it to resolve on it's own. Has anyone tried the Hair Max Laser Cap? They have one on a Black Friday price right now. I understand it is a long term committment for normal hair loss but I am thinking it might get me through the next 6 - 9 months, which is the estimated time for hair loss due this type of hair loss (telogen effluvium).

I am taking all the right vitamins too. I really don't want to try different hair serums or minoxidil. Any thoughts on the Hair Max?

Not the same thing, but I tried the Hairmax brush and it did nothing. I also take the "hair" supplements. I began using The Ordinary Hair Pepetide Serum several months ago (springtime) too. It was working, but not fast enough for me. About two months ago, I started with a Theradome EVO laser helmet (ordered from Costco) in early July and the results are very impressive. The Hairmax cap (the one on sale) has 202 laser lights. The Theradome has 80 laser lights. My experience with hair lasers is more is better. You'll get faster results with more hair growth when you use a device with more lights in it.

I've been using hair lasers for nearly a decade. The thing about every single laser device out there is that they all contain the same type of laser light. The only difference is the number of them contained in those devices...the more lights it has, the more expensive it it.

That's a great price for the HM 202 cap. I would definitely consider it if i didn't already own a laser cap. There's an extended return policy for that HM and no restocking fee either. I say go for it.

Ya know, @SilleeMee , it IS a possible to share an opinion without diminishing someone else's in the process. Just because you have your preference doesn't mean someone else's choice is bad or doesn't measure up. I may not have a science background like you, but I'm not stupid either. I tried to find specific info on the Hairmax and all I could find was that it had "medical grade lasers". Who knows what that means? For all I know there could be different strengths within that label. The Theradome devices get very high reviews. I found something affordable and effective and spoke my truth.

I still use the outdated laser comb and it has worked for me, I would definitely buy a cap rather than another comb if I purchase now. It took a while to work but has made a difference.

My neighbor had covid last year. She told me she lost her hair in handfuls. It did stop and her hair was growing back.

@JeanLouiseFinch Thank you for this recommendation at Costco. This question regarding laser caps reappears on the board from time to time. Some have had success, others not so much. It has been suggested that the reason for the hair loss often depends on the success of the treatment.

I've been considering laser for a while and think I will give the Theradome a trial. Wishing much success for a full head of hair to the both of us!

Here's info from the manufacturers. Somehow I get stuff from Theradome in my Facebook feed. This was a reply, from Theradome, to someone's question about their device:

Theradome emits a wavelength of 680nm +/- 8nm which is the highest wavelength for a laser hair growth therapy device. Our 680nm wavelength penetrates the human scalp up to 2.5 times more than lower wavelengths (635nm to 655nm) which means more stimulation of the critical parts of a hair follicle and this means our product is the only device that does not cause any shedding. Hope this helps.

So, then I went to the Hairmax page and DM'd the question:

"What is the wavelength of the lasers in the Hairmax?"

Someone from Hairmax responded:

I can help you.

The laser wavelengths are: 655nm +/- 10nm visible red light.

Best of luck to you, @phoenixbrd. I hope you enjoy the same, or even better, success. If you aren't doing it already, you may consider the appropriate supplements and occasional scalp scrub (Tweak'd). In the event that the device just isn't for you, Costco has an excellent return policy.

ETA - just so you know, the device needs to be ordered, it's not in the warehouse, and tomorrow is the last day of the sale.

I've read that hair loss is possible with both the virus and the vaccine.

The laser wavelengths are: 655nm +/- 10nm visible red light.

That explains a lot. Follicle depth varies from person to person so people with deep seated follicles may not experience regrowth with certain laser devices, for instance the HM or the Capillus. Looks like the Theradone is a winner!.

@SilleeMee I want to thank you. I believe you were the first person I read to suggest a solution for hair growth. I did look into the Hair Max and just checked it again. I understand that it might be more effective due to the amount of lights, but at a much higher cost. I believe you were also responsible for my bamboo purchase.

I am grateful to @JeanLouiseFinch for finding an alternative that might be a solution at a lower cost and on sale. The positive reviews are encouraging, as a result I'm going to try the laser route. Anxious to hear your results, and I'll post mine after a few months.

I respect both of you and am grateful for your contributions to the board. We are on the same page with the laser treatment. Here's hoping we all gain a full head of hair!

@SilleeMee The way it sits on top of the head is the most secure, coming down on the sides of the head and around back at the biggest part of the scull. It gives good coverage at the temples. It can be tilted, but if the user does that, I would recommend sitting still while having the treatment as it would change the weight, balance, and stability of the device.
