makeup that looks natural for older women

I was thinking about It cosmetics, but now thinking of something else. What foundation do you like for older women that feels more natural? I have sensitive skin,few wrinkles and would like something that does not feel heavy.

Anyone tried the Boots No 7 products? Any advice would be helpful.

If you have good skin, a BB cream is a younger, more natural look. I mix a little foundation with moisturizer to make my own.

Bare Minerals powder foundation by Bare Escentuals. Quick learning curve, natural looking. It took me one entire year after Leslie Blodgett started selling it on QVC for me to believe them. I think the demos on Maria, the blonde model, finally convinced me to try it. I've never switched.

@Fionna I like Perricone No Foundation Foundation (not the serum which is heavier but the original. It is light and does not give the appearance of heavy foundation or any foundation but just great skin.

Laura Mercier in the little black tube with SPF. It works for me. I wish it were a little drier, but all in all I like it.

If you want a powder foundation my faves are Pur Minerals or Laura Geller.

For liquid I like It Cosmetics CC Cream, I mix it with some moisturizer or Bobbi Brown's Vitamin Enriched Face Base. From the drugstore my favorite is PF Healthy Foundation, though it is getting harder to find!

I do use a pressed powder from #7 that I like very much!

AND always sunscreen!

Too Faced Born the Way foundation provides a beautiful, natural looking coverage. I prefer to apply it with a sponge vs. a brush and it covers all my imperfections, but looks natural. I have several foundations, yet this one is my go-to, even more so than my IT CC Cream.

I just use a little concealer to take the “edge” off my under eye circles or if I have any redness on my smile lines.

You're right, heavy makeup on older women looks like they're trying too hard. But I don't know what to recommend.

I think it's best to not wear a full coverage foundation if you are older. It would be better to just use a foundation of your choice and then apply that lightly. Use a concealer if necessary but don't use more foundation to cover imperfections. Less is more when you are older. Women of a certain age don't have naturally perfect skin so why try to make it look like it is.

@Fionna - My go to for a light coverage is Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue.

For coverage that's a little heavier, even though I have a lot and alternate a lot, I like Belle Beauty's Hydrobelle Full Coverage foundation. I don't like a heavy feel, so I put it on very lightly with a brush.

@Fionna - for a liquid foundation I use L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow in Natural Buff. I apply with a brush and like it a lot. For powder, I use Laura Geller Balance and Brighten in medium. I'm 67 with few wrinkles, except for some around my eyes, light to medium leaning more towards medium, cool/neutral skin tone.

@Fionna You have a lot of good recommendations, so you can see it is going to be some trial & error.

It is as much about your skin & how you apply the products as just being for "older" women.

I am old, but my skin is oily & breaks out from everything.I need coverage, but I don't want it to look heavy. I also like a satin finish. I don't like fully matte, but I don't like anything "dewey" or "luminizing". It looks oily on me, would slide right off of my face & probably break me out.

I don't use any of the Boots products, so I can't comment on that.

I love Mac Studio Fix Fluid Foundation when I want some coverage & Fenty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Powder Foundation for quick days or when I can use a lighter coverage.

Ulta has Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Base Mineral Powder Foundation on sale tomorrow, 50% off.

I have heard good things about it & always wanted to try it, but it is very rarely discounted.

I don't know what you mean by old(er) women.

Is almost 75 old enough?

If so, I can tell you what works for me. I us IT foundation. I put Laura Geller's Spackle under it. Nothing will work well unless you take a shaver to get off the fine hairs on your face BEFORE you put on the Spackle and the IT foundation.

I was watching QVC when for the first time Jamie (I think that was her name) used it( the foundation to cover up a tattoo she had. I might be wrong but she covered up something very significant in less than a minute.

I've always avoided the sun so I don't have a lot of dark spots ...but come on ..this skin of mine is over 75. I say that because the skin was there inside the mom.

one thing people don't do is remove the old skin from your face at lease 1 times day. I use Dr Denese's firming facial pads and Hydroshield 2 times a day. No soap but a microfiber wash rag.

Another thing I do is use Give Me brow To darken my eyebrows a little. It has tiny fibers on the application thing so your brows won't look like 2 caterpillars sitting above your eyes.

I use the lightest foundation and eyebrow stuff. I also put a tiny bit of rouge tint to my cheeks.

I use the IT eyeliner pencil to line the inside rim on the top rim of my eyes. It takes me too long and not the most steady hand to line outside my eyes. It looks the same as lining outside the eyes.

I can put all this "stuff" on in about 7 minutes or less.

And finally, iwear a short wig. It is like a BOB. Even hairdressers think it's natural hair. It is Toni Brattain, but I buy directly from her because I hate QVC'sblack roots.

The most important thing you can do is get that dead skin off of your face every single day.

Oh! I almost forgot about mascara. I was a teenager in the 60's so you can bet your bippy I love lots of mascara. My favorite is Maybelline waterproof black.

I get a lot of compliments on my appearance and few realize how old I am.

Sometimes I'll say, "Thanks...but it's because I paint it (running my hands over my face.

That's the truth. I'm not pretty, just normal looking. But I look younger thanks to all I've mentioned.

I never leave the house unless I look as if I was going to work.

I've mentioned what works for me. You need to try various things that works for you.

As far as clothes. I like bright Isaac clothes.

I'm friends with @ECBG. She has an excellent sense of style. She could help you there...if you need it.

Please don't be hard on yourself. God expects us to love ourselves and to help others. We can't do that if we bust on ourselves.

@Fionna , I really love Estée Lauder (new) sheer Doublewear. They discontinued the Light but I prefer how easily this blends in comparison. It is easily removed at night with a mild cleanser unlike the original Doublewear which I found too opaque and drying...🌹🌸🌹

@depglass I'm with you on BM original powder. I loved the shows with Lesley too.. I never switched either & if its applied correctly & buffed in well then it turns into a beautiful cream like look. I love that itcan be applied as light coverage or build up to a med. coverage.

What are your thoughts on when to apply concealer & why? Before or after foundation?

I like Merle's Norman Powder Base. Also, their Total Finish compact foundation (the sponge can also be dampend to have a more sheer coverage). I'm 62 years young and have been using this brand since 1977.

I always apply my under eye and spot concealer after my foundation, using a blending brush or sponge to apply. Sometimes I have issues with redness and use a green cream color corrector which I apply before my foundation.
Since I turned 60, I switched from regular foundation to BB and CC creams, applied and blended with a brush.
