Paging Monickam - Product Updates

Rather than trying to find the original threads, just thought I'd update in one.

Hourglass Mineral Primer

The consistency is a little drier than iT's primer. I liked the iT primer better than others I had tried because it had less of that petroleum jelly (silicone) feel going on. The hourglass has even less so. However, I realized after wearing it a couple of weeks that it was allowing my foundaton to settle into my pores. At first I just thought it was later in the day, but last Sunday I really took a notice as I was applying my makeup. Little pinpricks of makeup especially on my cheeks. I used to have oily skin and huge pores, but these days I would consider my skin normal and my pores are not particularly large. Today, I went back to my iT primer and verified that it was not doing the same as the Hourglass. I did start seeing it several hours later, but these days that's really not an issue. I haven't needed my makeup to last for hours on end in quite awhile.

It's more than likely a difference that can't be detected from the distance of the people around me since I mostly notice it when looking in the magnifying mirror. But, it seems iT beats out Hourglass in the primer department.

Too Faced Diamond Light eyeshadow palette

Tried out one of the looks in the enclosed pamphlet today. It uses 4 of the colors from highlighting under the brow to glitter on the lid. I am attaching pics of both the pamphlet and my attempt. My husband commented on it at lunch today. I asked if he liked it and he said yes. He usually says nothing if he doesn't like something, so I'll just leave it at that.

In the past, I have been told here that I have hooded eyes. If they're hooded, they have always been hooded since that's they way they have been all my life. I have never let that dictate my eye makeup choices. However, I do have small, round eyes which does affect what I try to do. So, for those of you with hooded eyes, I find the glitter shadow shows up quite well, bringing out the part of the lid that isn't hidden, so might be an opton for you.

The instructions on the packaging suggested using Too Faced Glitter Glue eyelid primer which I did not have, so I just used the Smashbox eyelid primer I have but rarely use. Also it suggested using fingers to apply the glitter shadow. I did find that to be true. I tried using a brush that I like for cream shadows and it just didn't pick up the glitter. Seems like they should be able to come up with some sort of applicator that could mimic the fingers, maybe silicone? That would be my main suggestion. I don't have long fingernails, but they do extend past my fingers and I felt like they got in the way. Couldn't imagine trying to apply with long nails.

@Icegoddess Those shades are pretty with your beautiful coloring.

I bought some sponge applicators for those types of shadows, because someone here suggested it. It does help with some textures of shadow that don't apply easily with a brush.

@Dusty1 Sometimes when appliing a more shimmery shadow, I just use my pinky finger patting it on top.

Sounds like you like the Too Faced palette. Good! It looks very nice on your eyes. How is the texture of your palette? Hard and chalky or no? Did you use an e/s primer? Setting spray is also good to use with shadows that need a helping hand.

@monicakm Yes, Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. It's a liquid and has an spf 15 in it. The directions do say to shake well on the box it came in. Doesn't seem like shaking does much when you have a full container.

The Too Faced palette felt silky to me. I did use an eyelid primer, just not the one recommended by Too Faced which sounded like it was specifically for use with glitter shadows.

I found an NYX silicone applicator on Ulta's website that might work. It's double ended with a larger applicator on one end for sweeping it over the lid and then a smaller one on the other end for more detailed application.

@GenXmuse I got mine directly from Too Faced for $20. I'm not sure how much s/h would've added, but if you spend like $49, it's free S/H. They were having a 65% off sale on several items.
