Be careful. Diane Gilman was on the air with a purple tint to her hair. She said it was from the shampoo her hairdresser recommended.

I've used a bunch of different purple shampoos, but I prefer IGK Mixed Feelings Purple Leave-In Blond Drops lately. You mix them in with anything - shampoo, conditioner, leave-in products. I like it because I don't need to keep an extra bottle of shampoo. I only have blonde highlights - not full blonde color - so not sure how well it works if your entire head is blonde but it does a great job keeping my highlights from turning brassy.

The one I use is sulfate free because my hair is all over colored with a dark shade and then I have blonde highlights. I don't want to ruin my color with sulfates.

Just in case, the one I use is OGX Blonde Enhancer + Purple Toning Shampoo. I only use it once a week. I apply on dry hair, let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and then add water and shampoo with it.

What isn't your current shampoo doing for you?

I have never gotten any purple tint from a purple shampoo or purple conditioner, it does stain your tub if you leave it sit there and not wipe away any remaining purple.

It meant to brighten your hair and mainly for blondes and silver hair people.

I have Redken in closet but now I'm using Oribe but it's not purple.

I also have never used any purple shampoo and my hair is totally silver. I use a Sauve shampoo in a yellow bottle that's supposed to make hair shiny and it does. I also use no heat; curling irons often yellow hair. I have thick, wavy hair that's wash and go.

I have high lighted hair and I use Joico and Biolage. Otherwise I use Beekman's 1802 Goats Milk shampoo and conditioner.

I use Matrix So Silver. Ive tried other brands but I always come back to that one. It really brings out the silver with no purple shading at all.

Be careful. Diane Gilman was on the air with a purple tint to her hair. She said it was from the shampoo her hairdresser recommended.

This brought back memories but so true what your hair can look like after using purple shampoo.Didn't see Diane Gilman the other day knew she had a special on HSN but can imagine what the purple shampoo did to her hair.

Years ago my young niece asked her mother why is Nana hair purple,she was so right and once my mother said the girl who cut her hair mentioned she should buy Clairol Shrimering Light,so I did the first time she squeezed it into her hand and saw the purple color ,she rinsed it from her hands and never used it saying do you want me to look like your mother in law .

Another time my daughter used a purple shampoo on her front highlights as it was a bit brassy, and when she went to work,some elderly man she was working for at the time said oh I like that blue color you put in your hair , she was horrified ,she couldn't wait to get home and wash it a few times then it looked ok the blonde was toned down,but it grasp bleach hair so fast just like grey /white hair .Can't leave it on to long and have to rinse,rinse and even give it a shampoo .

There are 2 brands that I have used and liked it was from Madison Reed or ESalon the hair color companies online,don't color my hair anymore let it grow in almost white / platinum but when want to refresh will just order a bottle think it is a milder purple shampoo but does it's job.

Once Flex disappeared from shelves and my stash was done, I have been using Suave shampoo and conditioner.

The price is right and my short hair looks great: it is colored dark brown with a thick pure white wave / flip in front ( both sides ). Every time I go out, I get compliments on it !

I use Keune Care Silver Savior shampoo and conditioner. I get it from my salon or amazon if the salon is out of it.

@Mimi NY Everyother shampoo I use Sauve Clairfying shampoo so I don't get that blue/purple build up. I buy the 30 oz. size for $3 at Big Lots....lasts forever.

@jackthebear I use the one by PHYTO. The ones with a lot of sulfates seem drying. I tried Shimmer Lights at Sally's when I first stopped coloring, but it really dried my hair out. I only use it every other month to brighten because I'm careful to use a heat protectant before styling and a hat when out in the sun, so no yellowing.

I love that stuff, $2 at target on Sunday, makes my hair so easy to blow out

@Shanus , Shimmer Lights makes my hair feel like straw.

I used purple shampoos when I was a "bottle blonde" to keep from looking brassy. Worked great - totally recommend it.

In 2019, when I stopped lightening my hair (naturally brown with gray coming in) - I tried several purple (Jhirmak, Clairol Silver to mention just two) to brighten the drab gray. All they did was make the brown drab also.

I recently switched to John Frieda Brilliant Brunette ... it's fab! It warms up both the gray and the brown - gray is still there - but looks much nicer and the brown is no longer drab.
