Recommendation for full coverage foundation

I know there are a lot of posts about foundations for women over 60 and I’ve read through quite a lot of them but my question is does anyone recommend a full coverage foundation that doesn’t look heavy and mask- like? I have melasma on a good part of my face and although I hate the look of heavy foundation I have to accept that it’s the only thing that will cover it. I’m hoping someone has had experience with a good foundation that looks as good as possible. I’m considering the Estée Lauder full coverage. Thanks!

@Natureluvr Estee Lauder makes a great concealer and other lines have full coverage concealers.... Have you tried covering your trouble areas w/ concealer and then being able to go with a lighter/medium coverage foundation? You may not feel like you're wearing a "mask". ***El Double Wear is popular and Lancome does make several. My favorites are always Bobbi Brown that has a huge shade range. You may enjoy using concealer and then a buildable foundation, too.

@Natureluvr If I use foundation, I always use a tiny amount of moisturizer to break the "mask" effect. I can still achieve full coverage for pesky sun spots.

@Shanus Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried using concealers underneath my regular foundation but my melasma covers most of my cheeks, upper lip and part of forehead so that’s why I’m thinking just using a full coverage foundation may work better. It’s also hard to choose shades for this very reason. Because my regular skin tone is 2 to 3 shades lighter than the areas covered by the melasma. I’m open to try anything though so I’ll check out the items you suggested

@Natureluvr I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Know that few women have one shade all over their face. Sometimes I do use several shades of foundation to lighten, darken or even out their faces. You may want to try 2 shades to apply a lighter one on the melasma and then go over it with a complexion correct foundation shade to even it all out.

How about Dermablend? It's made for this. I've worn it many times for stage work in my singing group. Once you are matched to the correct shade, it gives the most beautiful flawless finish and covers like a dream. Not masky.

I've had melasma for years and now some other issues that much be covered up. For 20 plus years I've tried so many products. The best for me, Dermablend cover creme full coverage foundation and I also use the Dermablend loose setting powder. It comes in so many colors. There is a video and quetion survery so you can figure out your exact shade and no how to put it on. It's important to "warm it up" on your hand before applying. When I moved, I went to a new dermatologist, I had my make up on. Told him I have melasma and he couldn't even tell.

Estee Lauder Double Wear is a good one.

If you want drugstore, the new CoverGirl Outlast Extreme Full Coverage Foundation is nice too. It's newer and has a red lid on it.

I like Dermablend Cover Creme Full Coverage. It is not heavy and you can control the amount of coverage. It lasts forever. They include a spatula which you use to put a small amount of Cover Cream in the palm of your hand.

Using a circular motion, soften and warm cream with your finger. Using a dab-pat motion, apply cream with tip of your finger until the imperfection is completely covered. Lightly blend edges outward. Allow to dry for a minute.

And Cover Girl is cruelty free; EL isn't.

For some red spots here and there, would one of the Dermablend concealer's work rather than using the foundation?

@Natureluvr Check out Dior full coverage which receives high reviews at Nordstrom and is priced like Estee Lauder. Here's Skin Forever Undercover 24 Hour Full Coverage foundation by Dior. Lightweight but covers and received high ratings at Nordstrom or any high end store.

Nars or Fenty Beauty. Either can be purchased at Sephora. Nars can be purchased in department stores. I used to use Estee Lauder exclusively, however the shade I'm matched for makes me look chalky.

I always match my face color to my neck for the Summer and it was the shade recommended. In the winter, I was using Nars in the tall bottle. I look red in that one. These are all colors I was matched for.

Finally tried Fenty 410 and I'm good to go. This is from 20 something years MAC user.

@monicakm , it's often referred to as pregnancy mask. You can get melasma from taking bc pills too.

I don't have melasma, but I do have some red marks from cystic acne breakouts. I use Estee Lauder Double Wear powder foundation. The coverage is pretty decent. I use the Double Wear concealer first over the redness, blend in with a concealer brush, and then use the sponge that comes with the foundation to apply it. I have never tried the Double Wear liquid foundation. It may provide more coverage than the powder alone.
