Moisturizer that does not cause white milia....

No matter what I try, I always seem to develop tiny spots of milia on my face. ANy suggestions for products that don't cause this or is it just my skin. I use oil free items but still have a problem.

I used to get Milia as well. I now use only Argon oil- NOT JM's over-priced brand- but Argon oil from Go Pure, a clean beauty site. It;s organic, cold-pressed and it's $15 a bottle. No longer get Milia. Had Milia removed by my Derm.

Aveeno for baby.
Personally I is a kind and gentle moisturizer for my cranky overly sensitive skin. It's got an oatmeal base ingredient deck and the result seem to be it doesn't fight my face.

I use Aveeno baby wash to wash my face also.
Perhaps this will not leave the little white bumps behind. Good luck.

Maybe try using a glycolic acid (AHA) product a couple of times a week until the milia clear up. Usually around a 10% strength is a good place to start. Serums or creams containing the GA used at night should help keep the milia at bay and you won't need to stop using your favorite moisturizer.

I have recommended Alpha Skin Care product here before. You can find serums and creams on their website at NeotericCosmetics dot com.

If you prefer leave-on treatment pads, check out Glycolix brand pads. Those come in a variety of strengths including some with BHA (2% salicylate). Glycolix is sold on Amazon and also SkinMedix dot com (everything ships free, no min).

Using acids on skin will help dissolve the thin layer of dead skin cells coating the trapped keratin cyst (aka milia) and release it.

This is very interesting! Because oil dissolves oil.

@bargainsgirl, is there any special reason why you use oil free?

I tend to think that milia is caused not by a moisturizer, but by your own trapped sebum.

I would rather go with a salycilic acid product to use as a treatment product. This gets underneath where the sebum is trapped. Check out Paula's Choice.

Or, look up theoilcleansingmethod.com, and you might want to try that. (In light of what @ellaphant wrote.)

(Anyway, more to think about.)

Milia are not caused by moisturizers.

From healthline.com and many other credible sites:

Milia are small, dome-shaped bumps that are usually white or yellow. They’re usually not itchy or painful. However, they may cause discomfort for some people. Rough sheets or clothing may cause milia to appear irritated and red.

Milia types are classified based on the age at which the cysts occur or what’s causing the cysts to develop. These types also fall into primary or secondary categories.

Primary milia are formed directly from entrapped keratin. These cysts are usually found on the faces of infants or adults.

Secondary milia look similar, but they develop after something clogs the ducts leading to the skin’s surface, like after an injury, burn, or blistering.

Older children and adults

In older children and adults, milia are typically associated with some type of damage to the skin. This may include:

blistering due to a skin condition, such as epidermolysis bullosa (EB), cicatricial pemphigoid, or porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT)
blistering injuries, such as poison ivy
burns
long-term sun damage
long-term use of steroid creams
skin resurfacing procedures, such as dermabrasion or laser resurfacing

Milia can also develop if the skin loses its natural ability to exfoliate. This can happen as a result of aging.

Some ingredients in skin care and makeup products can cause milia in some people. If you have milia-prone skin, avoid the following ingredients:

liquid paraffin
liquid petroleum
paraffin oil
paraffinum liquidum
petrolatum liquid
petroleum oil

These are all types of mineral oil that may cause milia. Lanolin may also increase the formation of milia.

I had a huge milia right inside my lash line! Had to go to a derm and have it removed. I asked my derm what could have caused it and she said maybe my eye makeup. I use to use waxy-type pencil liners and work them into my lash line. But not any more!

You've gotten some really good replies so far.

I wanted to recommend a great skin care product website that I found a while ago - art of skin care dot com. They have a lot of interesting brands and products - ranging from inexpensive to expensive. They have great product lines for sensitive, acne, aging skin and others as well. They go to the trouble of listing all ingredients and label products that they consider acne safe. Nice samples with orders too! They have a chat feature where you can ask questions, and I'm sure they would be willing/able to recommend something for you. Or give some advice. Maybe check it out and see what they say. Also, they do have virtual full consultations.

Just as a note, a lot of products are labeled oil free but they do have silicones or a silicone in them (dimethicone, etc.) - maybe check to see if the products you've been using have those - I find those can really bother my skin.

For the last many months I have been using microfiber cloths. I am so impressed by the exfoliating they do. Never leaves me dry or irritated. Some little bumps have gone away.

Had to go Google Milia since I was not sure what it is. I had a little under my eyes. Looks like they are gone now.

I have been using Isomers tea tree oil cleanser & or Simply face wash. Only other thing I'm using right now is Lord Jones acid mantle repair moisturizer with cbd. Have been using it for 2 1/2 months now. My skin looks so much better. It is keeping all the dry patches at bay. My face is no longer dry plus most of the redness is gone. My face is usually red as a beet for some reason. It's still red just not as bad. Using these products must have got rid of what was under my eyes.

I just bought their face cbd oil to add to it.

Mine looked like this under the eyes.

Never had any like this

@SilleeMee I was using a moisturizer that I really liked but it gave me Milia. When I stopped using it, it did go away. Now my problem is what seems to be layers of skin in a certain small area similar to Milia. I read your response and thank you for your information. I purchased 10% glycolic acid pads from Target and actually a men's brand (Bevel) but I would think it will do the same thing for me (I hope) LOL. If I am just trying it out I did not want to spend $25 and up. This Bevel brand was $11.99. I just Cancelled the order. I will look for something specifically for women. I don't know what I was thinking.

I don't see any reason why you can't use those Bevel pads. The ingredients look good and the price is totally do-able!

First Aid Beauty is an incredible moisturizer. It's soothing and healing as well.
No matter what I try, that is always a go to and in my rotation.
You can use on face and body.

I cannot use that type stuff on my face either. Every time I try my face gets so red & irritated. I use Isomers Tea Tree Oil daily exfoliating cleanser. Must be the only exfoliation my face can handle.

I use Oil of Olay with 15 SPF. Have since age 16. If I use anything for aging or thicker lotion, my face breaks out. I'll stay with Oil of Olay. I have few wrinkles.

I don't use any pencil liners any more. Instead I use eyeshadow powder (black or brown) and apply it using a damp flat-liner brush inside my lash line. Stays on all day and easy to remove.

I'm sorry you got a milia on your lash line. How did you get rid of it?

I'm going to try the brush and eyeshadow you suggested. I haven't gotten rid of one little milia on my lashline. I doubt anyone can see it, but I can and it bothers me.

My dermatologist wouldn't remove it, because of being so close to my eye. The removal would be difficult, especially in the office.
