BECOMING SUSPICIOUS OF NEW SKINCARE

It seems on every shelp is new skincare with "imported" ingredients, but many do not say from where. The words "rare" show up way too often with no plausible explanation. Foraged mushrooms, nuts, leaves, strange oils. I'm staying with my tried and true products until labels begin to be more transparent.

What happend to clean beauty that we knew was really clean?

These vendors also say only can be found in the mountain caves of Outer Space or some far off place too. Agree it raises much suspicion.

I am getting suspicious because I was watchine the skincare show with Shawn and a product from Holland that uses Tulips as a main ingredient showed a forehdead with wrinkles "before and after". I was watching the Deals Daily on Q2 the next day and saw a skin product that used the EXACT same picture to claim results! REally, really weird!

There are plenty of ingredients that have been researched for topical use or known to have been used by other cultures.

I'm not really suspicious of, shall we say, other ingredients in skin care. But, many of those do the same things we already know & love.

Every now & then I'll try something I haven't used before, but I don't listen to anything touted as rare or exotic. Those are just marketing ploys.

Anyway, "there's nothing new under the sun."

It seems like I've been looking at skincare ingredients for a very long time and every time I see something new, I try to remind myself of the basics which have worked for me for the many years I have been using skincare products. For me it's simple...I stick to what has been proven to work (in the scientific world), tried and true. Otherwise I'm on that constant merry-go-round looking for the next new 'brass ring'....those days are over.

Yes, I've wondered about this myself, especially when watching Denis of Tweak'd. Do you think he's really climbing to "the highest elevations" as he puts it, to obtain all the rare ingredients for his hair products?

@Still Raining I didn't buy into the whole spiel about the book, but do like and use some of her products. What I'm suspicious of are new Tatcha products now that the company has been sold. Wish I could remember what she introduced, so I guess I did have some trust in what she was producing.

What irks me is when they change the ingredients in my "tried and true" products. Or discontinue the products altogether.

Then it's back to square one again.

No @KKJ I don't believe he's climbing the highest elevations to get these rare ingredients for his hair products. He's using his marketing skills as he did with Ojon to successfully sell Tweak'd. I don't use his products, but they must be good since a lot of people like them.

@songbird Those may help, but there is some good, honest skincare out there. Everyone's trying to make a dime and it gets confusing.

I have oily blemish prone skin and kept hearing how I need a moisterizer even for oily skin. I finally learned to use my own common sense and never use anything but a serum that is not tacky. That is it for moisture and I don't have anymore breakouts or milia. I do believe there are some products that help your skin look better but nothing will turn back the clock. Those pictures they show are a joke. Most of the time I cannot even tell a difference in the pictures.

I won't watch skin care presentations for that very reason. Every new brand touts a new far-fetched ingredient to get our attention. The more far-fetched, the more money they charge. And people will pay it! That's what amazes me. Like Barnum said, there's one born every minute. Yes, and they're watching TV shopping channels.

I stay with the tried and true. The old standards. I found products my skin loves and stick with them. Skin care does not have to be expensive to work.

Yes! And after touting their product for months and months, bam! Out comes the "new and improved" formula of the same stuff. If it was so good, why'd they have to improve it?

Occasionally I'll catch one of the $$$$$ vendors $$$$$$ with their before and 6 weeks after pictures. I often wonder what week 7 looks like if you don't keep using their $$$$$ product.

A pair of exfoliating bath gloves and a bar of soap (I like Kiss My Face Olive Oil Soap), followed by a quick once over with a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel works really well for me ... at 78!

(I used Avon's Dramatic Firming Cream for years but a few months ago it began to irritate my skim - so I replaced it with the witch hazel.)

And - my "good old Facial Flex" is still going strong. Recently ordered some more bands for it.

Early in the lock-down, I neglected to use it and I started to see some sagging. Back to using it and in a few days - sagging gone.
