What Do We Call “Normal?”

Unilever is changing the wording on their products, including Dove, Tresemme, and others. They are eliminating the word "normal." I don't think it will be long until others are forced to comply.

I use WEN now, but it started me thinking, what will the new word be and how much I take for granted "normal" when it refers to hair or skin products or household use products.

My hair is "normal." It is not oily, dry, or some form of those words.

I do have combination skin, but some people have normal skin.

What will they replace this with?

My humble, "fatigued" on ALL this, opinion (and I'm not baiting or fighting, Q, though I'm sure some will think I am)...but I just simply feel that soon...we are not going to understand what anything is anymore. We've jumped the shark on this. I believe, we as a society, culture...are shooting ourselves in the foot. Nothing will be communicated right, everything supposedly needs to be "redefined" it's all, imho, flippin' insane. And becoming too confusing. ...not to mention, in many cases, for really no purpose or effective "change."

Normal to dry skin to me means not Oily, not overly Dry. ie. Neither of the extremes. Balanced. Insults no one. insane.

This seems ridiculous. If you don't have dry skin, oily skin or combo skin, you have normal skin, in my opinion. It's been this way since forever. Why change things now?

Well there ya go...I looked it up:

Normal skin

'Normal' is a term widely used to refer to well-balanced skin. The scientific term for well-balanced skin is eudermic. The T-zone (forehead, chin and nose) may be a bit oily, but overall sebum and moisture is balanced and the skin is neither too oily nor too dry.

Haha...Unilever's new packaging..."eudermic' 🙄 (not for real, yet, but I'm guessing.)

People picking up the product in the store: huh??

We'll all need to carry around new dictionaries soon.

The sad thing is it's a small percentage of people who are pushing these ridiculous new rules. These people have far far too much time on their hands and I am convinced are unhappy people.

Things are truly getting ridiculous to say the least . Since the age of 13 I have always known my skin was oily , and acne prone . it still is at soon to be 58 . I always took normal to mean average . Neither oily or dry nor a combination of the two . I know recently that Dr. Dray has said that skin types have always been a marketinng technique . Actually anyones skin can become oily or dry depending on products used , weather ,or health issues . I know if I used certain acne products my skin would become dry as a bone , but it is only short lived till I stop using the products . When someone goes shopping for products you need to have some idea of what you are looking for , not everyone is savvy on ingredients and these words would help me . What I find mind- boggling is with all this world has gone through this past year and devasting losses suffered by so many that this could be a concern for anyone

Wonder what percentage of people have "normal" skin? I think I have some combination of oily, dry, and "normal' although I csn't think of a single skin product I ever bought because I dsaw the word normal somewhere on the label.

I agree with all of you- I don't plan to learn a new way to talk at my age. I just wish more people would stand up to the "woke" mob, whoever they are!

This seems stupid to me. Everyone knows what "normal" means. How many have even ever heard of the word "euderrmic?" I don't find the word "normal" offensive, even though I would not consider myself that in any sense of the word.

There seems to many answers about "normal" referring to life in general. This is posted in beauty. I think normal skin and normal hair is just that and has nothing to do with COVID. When things calm down, so will all the word changes.
