Getting a Haircut

I made an appointment to get a haircut tomorrow after almost a year. They just opened them up in my county again. I gotta say I am nervous because of Covid and a new hair stylist. I am getting about two inches cut off. Any tips for me?

My salon requests that you call when you arrive. The door will be opened for you and your temperature is taken. Everyone wears a mask. There are plexiglass dividers between stations even at the wash basin. They really take it seriously and the state gave them instructions on how to operate/

Wear your mask and use your anti-bacterial lotion on your hands before you enter the salon.

I’ve had three haircuts and each time I washed my hair before going and I declined to have it blown dry, I also kept chit chat to a minimum and the first time, I had my stylist step 6 feet away while we were talking. I didn’t feel the need for this on subsequent visits however. Of course everyone was wearing a mask and I never removed mine.

That being said, I did just cancel my appointment for tomorrow because cases are so out of control here in Arizona. If your area has opened up I’m assuming it’s better. Just think how good it will feel 🙂.

I wish I could get a haircut, it's been almost a year for me.

I would pre-wash my hair, wear a mask and don't have it styled. Just the quick cut and wearing masks. Wash you hair again after and wash your hands of course.

@CAcableGirl2 I am in the suburbs of Sacramento and we just moved to purple tier which opens up beauty salons. Who knows when they will close again so I got on it today. I think I will wash my hair first but I will let her blow dry it since she is new to me and I want to see how she does.

I also live in Arizona too and have been going monthly for a cut, color and blow dry. No issues. She is a one woman shop, she sanitizes between clients and most likely it's just my husband and me in there because he gets his hair cut at the same time. Neither of us have any issues going on a regular basis. In fact, we are going later this morning. Then we are going out for lunch and eating inside like we always do.

As with going anywhere these days, it's all a matter of what a person feels comfortable with. I haven't gone to a salon since this all started as I haven't felt it's something I need to do. Of course, I have a "no-style" style, so it's not a really big deal for me. Not to say I wouldn't enjoy going, but it can wait!

@chessylady If they are following protocols, I am sure you will be fine. I wouldn't want to go with wet hair if the stylist wasn't familiar with my hair. I would want her to see it dry and tell me exactly what she was going to do. If I was going to bypass any of the steps, it would be the blow out. JMHO

Yesterday I got my hair cut for the second time since salons were allowed to open.

I saw their "routine" after each customer. And I must admit I was impressed. The stylist who was going to cut my hair completely wiped down everything in her area with disinfecting wipes. She used "fresh" combs and scissors for each customer. No more soaking the comb in that blue liquid. And even the cape was disinfected and folded. I think they have a service disinfecting all the items they use through the day. Because there was nothing out. They had to go in the back to get any supplies.

Masks are a must. Temperature is taken and recorded. They are not allowed to go in front of the customer. They have to stand toward the back at all times. My stylist said she had a hard time getting used to that.

And if there was more than 2 people sitting 6 feet apart, you were to wait outside.

The stylist does not want to get the virus. So I think that they are trying their best to make sure it is not spread. Besides my stylist was saying, she didn't think she could survive another shut down.

I've been several times now going to go today as a matter of fact. They wear masks and disenfect the stations. I have had no problems, and not worried. Wash, cut, blow dry and out. I'm in N.VA and they have been open for quite a while now. The place I go to takes walk ins. Only 2 stylists and have never seen more than 2 people in there at a time. If they are washing your hair they are using soap and water so no concerns there since through all of this, soap and water still are the most effective. Seat is clean, new apron used and we are masked. If you are in the higher risk catagory then you might not feel as comfortable. I color my own hair so I don't need them for that.

In RI our salons have been open for months now. I have been a few times and have had no problem at all. Like others stated they are all masked as am I ,everything is wiped down in between customers. You have to wait in your car until they come to the door and wave you in. The chairs are all 6 feet apart and they only allow so many customers in at a time. There are several stylists at my salon but it's a large place. There have been zero Covid issues at any salons in my state.

I'm in Ohio and our salons have been open since May. I do think they followed protocols more when they first opened than they are now. This is my specific salon only. I have no idea what others are doing.

Mine doesn't take temps. They don't require you to stay in your car and call when you arrive however, my stylist has never had a back-up so I am always the only one there for her. This is a new salon for my stylist and it used to be a house so it is divided up into various rooms. My stylist is in a room and there is a station for one other stylist although no one has ever been in there at the same time. There are no plexiglass dividers at the shampoo bowls but again, I've always been a couple of bowls down from anyone else.

Everyone in there is masked.

@chessylady The less time you spend there the less time you are exposed to any virus in the air... so prewash your hair before you go... she can wet it down with a sprayer and cut it that way... forgo the dry and style... just leave with it wet. The blow dryer just stirs up the air more... You can be in and out for your cut fast this way.

I have had one haircut just before Covid developed strongly. I would love to have one , but there is no way i would risk it , i am vain , but my health is more important.

I haven't had a professional haircut since Sept 2019 and DH has gone almost as long. We live in Northern Arizona ( highest rate of Covid in the World!) so we are being very cautious. My hair is mid back and I don't color so its easy to wash, comb and have DH trim an inch, approximately every three months. When we were first married I used to use Clippers and Flowbee ( remember?) on DH, so we're back to that. Did invest in thinning shears and hair cutting scissors. End result: we're safe, look groomed and have saved a ton of $$$$.

@Katcat1 My hair dresser operates in the same way except they do not blow dry; also there are only three customers allowed for distance. I run out to my car; turn the heat on and go right home to blow dry myself

I think you will be surprised at how nice and easy it is to get in and done. All salons really are doing everything to remain safe and open.

I have been going back since the moment they reopened...every 4wks. I get the entire treatment....color/cut/shampoo/blow-out.

I'm in Arizona too and I haven't missed one appointment. I feel totally safe going every month.

I need a haircut baaaaad. But I'm scared spitless to go to a salon. I always get a dry cut, so no washing or blow-drying involved. I'm trying to get up the courage to go.
