I have been considering trying one of the customized shampoo and conditioner lines out there (Function of Beauty/Prose/Formulate) for awhile but have never been able to decide on which one. I was ordering something online at Target the other day and saw they are now carrying the Function of Beauty so figured I'd give it a try.

There are 4 different shampoos/conditioners to chose from: Straight, Wavy, Curly, Coily and 10 different boosters. You can add up to 3 boosters into the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner are $9.99 each for 11 oz and the boosters are $2.99 each.

I have fine, 2b/2c wavy hair that is a little past my shoulders and is highlighted. I decided to try the Curly shampoo (the "special" ingredient in that one was something I was more interested in than the one in the wavy shampoo), the Wavy conditioner (Curly one has shea butter which is too heavy for my hair) and got boosters for Volumizing, Strengthening and Soothing Scalp.

I tried it for the first time this morning and I am really happy. The shampoo had plenty of suds even though sulfate free, the conditioner had good slip and my hair was detangled. I used all my other standard products/methods and my hair came out extra nice. I had a little more volume than usual and the best thing was that my curl clumps were thicker than usual. Because my hair is fine, sometimes my clumps get too stringy.

I know that it's a little early to tell since I used it only once but wanted to mention in case anyone else was interested. I'm having a very good hair day and anyone with wavy/curly hair knows that a good wash day can sometimes be a challenge when you don't use heat tools.

@JudyL The numbers/letters refers to what type of wave/curl pattern you have. It's broken down to 4 types of hair. 1 is straight, 2 is wavy, 3 is curly and 4 is coily. My hair has definite waves but doesn't have ringlet type curls so I'm 2b/2c since some of my hair in the front/sides has definite S shaped waves (2c) while some in the back is looser (2b). I can use lighter weight curl products like foams and light weight gels, while someone with type 3 or 4 hair can use heavier products like creams, custards and heavier gels.

I always thought of my hair as straight until this year. I've always blow dried it and have had no problem getting it straight and would use a curling iron if I wanted waves. I started air drying during quarantine and realized that I had a lot of natural wave that I never noticed before. I've been experimenting with different products/application techniques for most of this year and it's amazing how much wave/curl I have now.

One of the only positives about this year is that I've worked from home every day and been able to experiment with my hair. I've tried a bunch of different types of products and some have been great and some have been terrible for my hair texture. Luckily on the bad days no one sees me except my family!

I ordered from the Function of Beauty website and my items were delivered yesterday. I will try the shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner today. Hope I like it. Seems like an interesting concept. I am going to go the whole nine yards today and air-dry my hair to see what happens. When I do that, well, usually does not work out that well. Plus, I am in need of a haircut and color touch-up so today will be a good day for seeing what these products can do.

I am a 1 through and through. LOL There isn't a wave, a curl, a twist, or anything even remotely resembling any of those anywhere on my head. LOL
