Hi @Shanus . I wasn't sure whether you said you had fine wavy/curly or thick but....

I have tried MANY a flat iron or device, always with caution as I too feared damage. My hair is fine and curly.

Believe it or not one of the better tools I like to use is the Calista Triangl Pro. It will straighten your hair with a less damaging heat and it allows you to get that more modern blunt edge. I know you mentioned you wanted a beveled edge when speaking of a flat iron but this Triangl device allows you to achieve both looks. How it is different is that the Calista Perfector (for which she is famous for) ONLY gave you a curled edge. The difference between the two tools is rather dramatic.

Maybe you can view one of the demos of the Triangl to better see what I'm trying to explain. It does check off all the boxes you're looking for: gentle heat, heat adjustments and temporary - no permanent damage to your natural curls.

TO EDIT: I forgot to mention it also has auto shut off.

I can blow my out curls with my large Revlom Volumizer Brush/Blowdry tool, but my hair is still a bit wavy and turns under at the ends. I have looked into Brazilian blowouts (decided damaging and couldn't turn back to curly).

This leads me to the best flat iron. I'd like the least damaging, auto cutoff, the edges that are curved to add volume at the crown and very necessary for silver hair, temp control settings since I don't use heat over 300 degrees.

This is new territory for me since my pixie is now almost shoulder length and the last time my hair was this long, I'm not sure safe straight irons were an option. They've come a long way. I've looked online at several sites...hundreds to choose from...baffling.

Can someome suggest an iron they have now or have owned that they think is the best ever and why?

well I read your post with a lot of interest but unfortunately I don't have an answer. My hair is already straight. I thought you might be asking about stopping perming your hair.

Hopefully someone else can give you a good option.

Here is what I have learned from my hairdresser and my own trial and error. At first focus at the hair near the root as that is where the curl starts forming. If the hair is slightly dry ahead of time, it will fight the straightening process.
I start drying from underneath the hair and gradually work from on top of the hair to fight the hair from curling under. My hairdresser suggested that I complete the process by using the cool setting to set the hair.

Re: Dafni Brush

This is used on dry hair.

I've had a Brazilian blowout and a keratin treatment and I could wear it wavy but without the frizzfest. Posh salon in Durham does a great job but I really like my revlon blowout brush a lot since I'm not doing major salon visits. I would recommend Matrix miracle creator. I just started using this for a month and it has done wonders for a smoother look

You can get a trial size on Amazon and check it out without buying the whole bottle.

I do, after striaghtening it one way or the other too many times, have to deep condition more often to get my curls back in shape. My hair has thinned out a bit as well, but when I went silver, the curls seemed to amp up...free of dye and damage, I guess.

Because I'm a 2C/3A type curl, if that really matters, I don't have the tangles, tighter curls and frizz is managed with a bit of argan or other lightweight oil.

I hope your layered cut goes well. Let me know.

It's a delicate balance ans you can overdo either one. So when the limp, frizzies start, I know I've over conditioned...I don't do protein since my hair gets enough in the styling products.

In the past 10-15 years, my hair has gone through many phases (everything from extensions, keratin treatment, and an unfortunate bleach incident). After my bleach (resulting in serious breakage), I started getting blowouts. I was terrified of drying or straightening my hair myself; and I have thick 2c/3a hair that is too difficult for me to attempt. That being said, I have had a T3 and GHD flat iron. They were both terrific and would recommend. But PLEASE make sure you use a heat protectant.

I have had to embrace my curls this year; as I'm certainly not getting blowouts at the salon; and am (kinda) following CGM (it's a lot of trial and error)! I asked a stylist about Olaplex, her professional opinion was that she's heard as many negative as positive things about it; but told me she wouldn't suggest it. I know that's just 1 opinion, but she's never been one to push products.

I like variety too. For many years it was short. I never used anything on it - didn't even own a blow dryer. My teenage DD would get up at 5 every morning to get rid of her curls. I thought she was crazy! About 10 years ago I started thinking I wanted to look more polished. My hair grew and I blew it straight- still no straightener though. One day I let my curls "go." People who hadn't known me long asked if I had had a perm - LOL!

Now I also use the Revlon volumizer when I want to look really good- right now that's twice a week for me, sometimes more with Zoom. But still most of the time I let it go. I'm a WEN girl and I like the way my hair feels when it's natural!
