I wonder who wears those colorful eyeshadows they show everywhere?

This weekend I scoured the internet for Black Friday and Cyber Monday beauty deals and I was just flabbergasted at all of the bright crazy colors of eyeshadow being sold, mostly in palettes. I mean, I hardly see anyone wearing makeup anymore, not like I do, Covid or no Covid, I paint my face fully every day even though I don't go out hardly anymore because of covid. I just love makeup, but no one I know even wears it anymore.

Moreover, I simply have never seen anyone wear bright eyeshadow or sparkling eyeshadow like Charlotte Tilbury and Urban Decay sells. I know women are buying these palettes because sales are up, but do they actually wear it? I wear neutral beiges and taupes on my eyes and, as I said, I wear more makeup than anyone I know, but the colors are soft looking.

When you go on MAC.com, for example, they are the number one selling cosmetics brand in America and their bestselling lipstick shades are bright red like Ruby Woo~a really crazy red. I mean, I just don't see average American women wearing bright colors anywhere, do you?

I wear them. I love makeup & I do wear bright colors. On my eyes. I am not a lipstick fan, so that is usually something soft & neutral.

I think I wear my colors in a tasteful way that is age appropriate, but I do like me some color!

Mac is my favorite brand, ever. Pat McGrath, Urban Decay...I don't do glitter, but I love satin & soft shimmer eye shadows. And, color.

I wear different colors of eye shadow and most ladies I see around the work area wear different colors. I don't know anyone that doesn't wear makeup in the working world. I'm talking prior to March since I haven't been to the office since then.

It is all in the application.

I’ve got some palettes with colors that can be applied for very bright looks and I have seen those done on YouTube video reviews. I don’t want that kind of look so I use a light hand when I apply colors like that so I get a subtle look.

I work full time and wear eye makeup 5 days a week to the office. It is more important than ever to use since I wear a mask that covers the rest of my face. I skip makeup when I’m home on the weekend.

I haven't been much of any place since March, so don't know what people are wearing in the real world. But I do see that on t.v. women seem to be wearing much brighter eye shadow colors. Colors like I used to wear when I was a teenager and very young adult! I don't see anything wrong with colors but I think it looks better when it's blended and muted down a bit. These bright eye colors are not for me, but if a person likes it --- hey, go for it!!!

It just isn't my taste these days, seeing all kinds of colors, or wearing them. All I can think of is Liz Taylor's makeup in Cleopatra.

The most youthful look to me is yes, shadow & light, but all in natural tones.

I am definitely more of a neutral person when it comes to my shadows and I don't apply multiple shadows like I used to either. I remember back in the day using 4 or 5 shadows.

However, I almost always put a shimmer or slight glitter on my lid because everything else I use is matte. If I am going out, sometimes I will use a pop of color shimmer.

I personally don't see people wearing a full eye of yellow, red or fuschia shadows. I've seen Influencers using a lot of these crazy colors but I doubt they wear this in their everyday real life. Sometimes the pinks and reds actually make them look sickly. LOL

I wear colors, but not the really bright ones, although I have seen them on TV. There is one news lady that often wears bright blue, and while I think she has gorgeous eyes, when she wears the blue all I can think of is the 70's (Mimi from the Drew Carey Show). Today she is wearing a strip of bright yellow so it really only shows when she's looking down. But, she does have the eyes to carry that sort of look off, large and almond-shaped.

Some like to paint on canvas or color in coloring books for fun. I like to color my face instead.

I try to make sure that people can see my eyes and not my colorful eyeshadow. Way Bandy back in the Stone Age made up my eyes and taught me some techniques both using eye shadow, liner and mascara. I know what works for me so I have only adjusted to wearing matte shadows over metallic which back in the day, I could wear.

Wow, @Trinity11 ! Way Bandy? I had a table-top book authored by him, but where it is now....? All I remember is his method of shading and contouring. I don't remember any [I use this term hesitantly] 'garish' eye color shades.

Can you please share some of the things he taught you? Anything specific to your unique features? TIA!!

You know, I don't remember e/s pallets till just the last year or so. I've always bought singles, doubles or quads be it drugstore or dept store. Are palettes semi new?
Today's look included:

@monicakm You know, I wasn't shopping at Sephora until the early 2000's. I know they had some palettes back then. And there were the drugstore palettes/sets, like the ones you get for a child for Christmas. I remember palettes/sets like that in department stores when I was a kid too, but they weren't as inexpensive.

I think the biggest palette I owned as a kid had 12 shades and was drugstore.

Hi @Harpa . I have large, almond shaped eyes with very long eyelashes...the color is somewhat unusual so he emphasized bringing out the color. No browns, taupes or muddy shades in eye shadows rather soft creamy shades that have a blue base. A black or dark navy liner and black mascara. I have experimented with the antithesis but it never worked and to this day, I still use the same simple method to make up my eyes..
