There is a Gentle formula, but my face never felt clean when I used it.

At 65, I still have oily skin, and Cetaphil gets it really clean without making it feel tight and "stripped".

Great question! I would so like to find a dupe for Purity! I’ve had no luck yet with what I’ve tried. My latest experiment was Phisoderm and that one dried me out. Even tried Avenno baby and did not agree with my skin.

My skin reacts to many ingredients, but I can use both of these brands. I do use the most gentle of each, the more intensive set my skin off.

Just for me, the Cetaphil seems more gentle, but leaves a layer. Have both out in use.

While I use neither of these cleansers, I recently discovered that the cleanser I have been using for years with my Clarisonic works a whole lot better with the hand-held Luna 2 by Foreo.

I get lather now probably due to the thousands of rpm. Skin is way smoother too.

So, when you decide which drugstore cleanser works best for you, you may want to consider what you use it with.

The drugstore brands bothered my eyes when removing make up at night. So as a compromise, I use CeraVe Hydrating cleanser in the mornings to save a little money. I stock up on PC when I see a sale.

I am currently using Earthscience Ceramedx which is a cruelty free version of CeraVe . These are all very gentle , but I feel they do not effectively remove makeup or sunscreen on their own and I do not wear a lot to begin with . I use it in the AM alone but at night I use it as part of a double cleanse . I use a gentle balm cleanser to remove sunscreen , mascara , brow product first , then go in with the ceramedx. I also have oily acne prone skin so it also depends on your skin type .

Unless you are going to double cleanse, I have tried both and neither remove make-up. I'm not a double cleanser so I have no idea how these would be if you used them after a cleansing balm or oil.

I use a cleanser at night to remove my make-up and then I was using Cetaphil in the morning when I had nothing on my skin. That is the same way I used Cerave. I even used the foaming versions but they didn't remove make-up and they dried my skin out horribly.

I personally prefer Cerave Hydrating Cleanser over Cetaphil. The Cetaphil is watery and leaves a film. Neither removes makeup 100%, but there is a way to use Cerave that will get most of it off. At night, use a makeup remover first and then for the second cleanse, put the Cerave on your DRY face, rub it in, and then rinse. This works to remove remaining makeup and makeup remover residue. In the morning, you can use it dry on your face or after splashing with water...your choice... As an aside, I use the Wal-Mart version (Equate) of the hydrating Cerave and like it just as well. I tried it after Dr. Dray on YouTube said it was the same thing.

Cerave cream to foam cleanser. It's creamy, slightly foaming and leaves my face comfortable. I get it on Amazon. Cetaphil irritates my face and makes it red. My skin is normal to dry.

In this house, we use Cera Ve. It is nice and creamy. I don't use it to remove makeup, but I do wash in the AM with it on occasion. I usually use purity, for evening wash and makeup remover. My family, who have skin issues do use Cera Ve daily. I actually bought CVS knock off of it and it was ok, but I don't see it often. I used Cera Ve eye cream and I was irritated by it.

The Cerave Foaming cleanser was a bit too harsh and it left my skin feeling a bit tight and dry but it did a fairly good job at taking my makeup and sunscreen off. The Cerave Hydrating cleanser left my skin feeling good but it didn't remove everything and I was left feeling like I needed to wash my face again with something else.

I have never tried Cetaphil cleansers. I currently use Palmer's Cleansing Oil and I like it a lot.

The Cerave Hydrating cleanser left my skin feeling good but it didn't remove everything and I was left feeling like I needed to wash my face again with something else.

I have never tried Cetaphil cleansers. I currently use Palmer's Cleansing Oil and I like it a lot.

@SilleeMee I have been trying to find this but no one in my area seems to carry it.

I dont like either of the ones you asked about but I do like cleansers from Garnier and Simple, ones that are more gel like and natural, I have combo to oily skin. Olay makes a variety of cleansers, look into them too.
