I am 22 and have normal to oily skin. I have been using a basic mositurizer and facial cleaner but nothing else. Don't really wear much make up. But I've noticed my skin has been pretty dry lately (possibly weather change). Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome. At age 22, you shouldn't be too concerned yet, but it's good to start early. Most ladies here will insist you wear sunscreen constantly. I will add that you should eat healthy foods and keep your whole body healthy and active.

At 71, I only use 5 products and have great skin: a gentle cleanser, vitamin C (morning), Retinol (at night), lightweight moisturizer (morning), and a firming cream on my neck (morning). Different types of skin require different products. You need to find what's right for you.

Essentially all you need to do is cleanse and protect (sunscreen). But if you want to address the 7 signs of aging:

Fine lines and wrinkles.

Dullness of skin.

Uneven skin tone.

Dry skin.

Blotchiness and age spots.

Rough skin texture.

Visible pores.

Retin-A will will take care of all of that, most caused from sun damage. About the only other products needed would be something to exfoliate and moisturize.

Retin-A is good to start using when you are in your mid-20s or early 30s. You will stay looking younger for longer.

Consider a more gentle cleanser, it is shocking how drying some can be. Since you don't do much makeup, consider one by Cetaphil or CeraVe. Good price point.

SPF, Retin A and a very hydrating moisturizer are a must for me. I do use serums and oils but those before mentioned items I will not be without. I will be 71 this week and have been blessed with very good skin. It has been dry all of my life but I manage it quite well with my products. It's never too late to start using an SPF.

This is a fun question!

The best things you can do for your skin at your age is to get into the habit of cleansing your face nightly, wear spf daily, and moisturize. And while not a product, drink lots of h2o. Your skin will thank you for that one! Adding eye creams and starting to use masks certainly won't hurt!

For me (mind you, I'm not 22, but am pleased with my skin for my age).....

AM

gentle cleanser

toner

essence

eye cream

dermadoctor wrinkle revenge serum

peptide serum

moisturizer

spf

PM

oil cleanser

genrle cleanser

toner

essence

Refissa (RX tretinoin) (but every other night). On the night I don't use Refissa, I replace with an antioxidant "night" oil.

moisturizer

Secondly, 22? I have panties older than you!!! OK, skincare. At your age, I really wouldn't worry about about anything "anti-aging" except to be diligent with your sunscreen (spf at least 40) every day rain or shine and all 4 seasons. Daily skincare would be an oil cleanser at night to remove the difficult to deeply clean spf, a gentle moisturizer (Cereve, drugstore is often recommended by derms) and an eye cream, can never start too early with that. When you're 30, I'd make an appt. with your dermatologist and get her expert examination of your skin and suggestions of what anti-aginging products to start you on your way.

***BTW, I'm an aesthetician and freelance makeup artist, now doing makeup for private clients by appointment.
