I read an article today that Hair Masks help thicken your hair. When we use heated tools on our hair clarifying shampoos, etc. we need to rehydrate the hair so it was said that Hair Masks are a must. The picture below is a mask that had the lowest price of $11. Others were $28, $36, $42, etc. Carol's Daughter also has one. So you basically spend as much as you want. Apparently, it is good practice to use once a week.

I'm not a hairdresser (so this is not a professional opinion). But, I have a dear friend that owns a salon and I've always been into hair care. I do use hair masks at least once a week. I haven't found one that helps my hair grow. However, my hair is prone to breakage (based on coloring, texture, etc). Its my understanding (and I've noticed), masks penetrate moisture deeper into the strands of hair. When my hair is more moisturizered (hence, softer), it doesn't tangle as easily. Therfore, I'm more gentle with my hair and it helps the strength and overall health. I've used several Shea Moisture and they have all been very nice. On the higher end, swear by Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque. Putting the price aside, it is a value. A little goes a long way. A bottle had lasted me over 6 months.

I’ve noticed my hair looks drier after shampooing & blowing dry. I always use heat protectant before blow drying. Never had a problem until recently. I use scalp scrubs, as well. I haven't tried the Nexxus one, but heard good things about it. I did try the Drunk Elephant scalp scrub, it's on the pricier side and I (personally wasn't impressed). I've really been happy with "Not Your Mothers" brand Charcol and Bamboo scrub.

I haven't used a heat cap (although in my dream world I'd have a hooded steamer, like at a salon, lol). But since that sent my reality, I use a disposable plastic cap (over the mask) and layer on top of the cap a twisty turban. Although I'm sure any fabric will do. It's partially to help keep the cap in place and for added insulation to trap the heat.

A few other things that I've tried and has really helped the overall health of my hair is a silk pillowcase. My hair (was) the length of mid back and curly.... which = horrible tangling and prone to dryness. I've been using one for a few years and it helps with moisture and extends the length of a blow out (as I don't wash everyday).

The stress of 2020 and my age started to do a number on my hair the past few months. I started to wear a silk turban around the house, that has helped, too!

Also, water makes such a noticeable difference, we have 2 homes. One with well water, but a softener throughout. Yet for whatever reason, the ph level of my hair doesn't agree with the water. I've had horrible shedding as a result. I rinse my hair with bottle water mixed with a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, that has really helped.

I was joking about how the back of my hair was like a V shape because the ends weren't growing and dead. I've been using Kevin Murphy Young Again oil. I run a pump of it through my ends in the morning and before bed (or before brushing my hair). It is a wonderful oil (for me, anyways); it doesn't weigh my hair down or look greasy. It can be used on wet or dry hair (which was important for me). It is on the pricier side ($30 range for a bottle). But..... it's very concentrated and a bottle did last me well over 6 months (with long thick hair)!
