Sephora has lost their minds

Ours just opened recently so I stopped in yesterday.

Upon entering they sanitized my hands and told me if I could not touch anything and to call an associate if I need something.

I wanted to see a lipstick so a saleswomen came over to help me

1- she sprayed the lipstick with alcohol

2- she wiped it down on a paper towel, sprayed it again

3-she took a cotton swab and rubbed it on the lipstick to get the sample

4- she wipes the sample on a piece of clear plastic then holds it on my hand.

5- then starts the sanitizing of the lipstick project over again.

I asked her why she could not hand the cotton swab to me so could apply the sample to the back of my hand.

She said they must use the clear plastic sheets.

I walked out.

I find this to be a good thing. Sorry you were upset. She was trying to keep people safe. How many people do you think may just touch all sorts of stuff -- and if they are carrying the virus, then it spreads. The spread MUST stop or we are stuck here forever.

I went yesterday and was told I couldn't touch anything. I just looked around. It is definitely different. I didn't know it was that much of a pain to see something. I didn't ask to see anything. Glad I didn't.

@Abrowneyegirl that's insane, I would have walked out too. You would think sales are way down for Sephora, they would do anything to accommodate you instead of losing a sale. It's better and easier at this point to order online.

Actually I'd rather they did that than what was going on before.

I haven't been in a Sephora for at least 10 years I guess. The last one I was in was clogged with a bunch of people and KIDS all pawing around in the products.

I was totally disgusted and haven't been back. So I would much prefer this way, and think maybe they should keep on with the plastic and the alcohol!

How in the world is what they are doing helping STOP the spread???

The step where they place the sample on the piece of clear plastic on holding onto my body is the point of cross-contamination. If the salesperson does not thoroughly wash between each and every person she is spreading everything from the cold and flu to COVID.

If she would have handed me the swab using clean -technique it would have been SAFER and more effective for me to sample the product. WIN-WIN

Or she could have put a sample in a container and sent me off to sample it at home.

Adding ridiculous steps does NOT make things SAFER it creates more points of failure= greater risks.

How sad that to attempt to create safety we have to have so many barriers. But, if I were shopping in an area of known viral presence, I'd be happy to every sort of protection.

My personal protection? I have lipstick that in normal times I'd say was so far beyond its expiration date that I would discard it. Now? I don't need much and I figure it's just as safe to use what I have as to walk into a store and shop, so that's what I'll do.

My daughter has to listen to me rant that 'supposedly' one (1) person caused this entire world to change their way of life (probably most forever) and not one single thing changed.

No one or country, etc was 'punished' for what happened. As I understand it (and keep hearing) the place is still cranking out similar tests.

It's stuff like that that makes me very, very angry. No one is responsible for themselves anymore. No one is punished.

Everything in our lives still comes from China. No changes at all.

You went into an enclosed interior space, with no knowledge of air quality, where there were multiple other people, without or with masks, knowing a sales assistant might get close, and choose to sample an nonessential lipstick?????

And now there are complaints about cross contamination????

Understand before you go shopping everything has changed. Many stores don’t allow you to try on clothing. Many stores don’t accept returns. Grocery stores don’t take back an incorrect item you bought. These things are not changing anytime soon. I am ok with that. These people are just doing their jobs as required by their employers. No need to be rude to them. If you don’t understand or accept these changes you should stay home and not shop there. The economy is suffering but the virus gets worst and claims more victims. I don’t need anything but essentials.

Yep! Walked into a store asked a salesperson to put a dap of lipstick from a cotton swab on the back of my hand so could give them money and leave with a product.

So far there has been no documented COVID transmission from Q-tip to back of hand ......but if it does we may have to reconsider this process.

What is the world coming to?

Business just don't know what to do.

There are no universal guidelines.

Our news reported that at one school district, the coaches were told to submit their plans for safely opening sports programs. Since we (the school) don't know how to do this and our health department has not issued guidelines, then we will just have the coaches decide what is safe.

When I finally went into a grocery rather than curb side, I took my own bags. That is a no-no. Who would have thought.

No nation wide mask requirement so the store clerks have to enforce company rules. Fights are breaking out. Guns are being drawn.

No universal recommendations for salons, food service, retail, schools, theatre, malls, medical offices and on and on.

@Mom2Dogs I understand, so do I, but this environment is making it hard.

I fear a lot of businesses will not weather this and more jobs are going to be lost.

Yesterday I went from thinking be careful and try not to spend more than $150 to walking out with nothing. It was a waste of my time and gas.

No storefront should open if they can't provide a safe environment without going overboard. That's just ridiculous and annoying to customers. I'm sure not interested in shopping like that.

@Abrowneyegirl I think Sephora's exaggerated cleaning procedure is to avoid any litigation. People love to sue for money.
